I honestly don't understand the point of buying those very expensive figurines of characters not only from games but also anime/movies/etc. I perfectly understand buying models to build and paint or 3D prints to paint, something you work on yourself. Or maybe that's mostly western problem as when I was at anime con I saw those absurdly priced figurines that I later saw for 1/10 of that price at second hand shops in Japan when I was participating in conference (no, really, 15cm anime character that would cost equivalent of 50€ at con could be bought for something like 800-1000 yen).

Simple acrylic and brush aren’t going to get you those nice gradual blends, especially on skin, but you can get started and begin working on your brush control, paint thinning/mixing, and other techniques.
