Is elden ring an "easier" souls game? I wanna get it but I'm not sure it'll be fun. I enjoyed 2d soulslikes like hollow knight and blasphemous but I can't get myself to enjoy 3d soulslikes like nioh and sekiro. Expedition 33 was my favorite game of 2025 and still I gonna agree with many of the posters here: people, both the John Norman and the average John Journalist, praised and elevated it as an act of protest against the AAA industry in general and Ubisoft in particular, not because they genuinely enjoyed the game and considered it to have real merits as a videogame. It's a turn-based RPG; those games are niche nowadays, to the point where even Final Fantasy abandoned turn-based gameplay.

I do think it’s kind of a shame that the bulk of E33’s praise comes from it being used as a tool to shit on Ubisoft and Square, because the game is genuinely great in its own right. It’s rare to get a game nowadays that actually takes itself seriously and commits to being a character driven tragedy. The Lost Odyssey and FFX comparisons are pretty apt. It also reminds me alot of peak Yoko Taro before he sold out with Automata.
