Oblivion took its main quest from Elfstones of Shannara. I’ve seen a lot of people say that Oblivion was based on Lord of the Rings but if you actually consider the plot it’s way closer to the Elfstones of Shannara. In Shannara There is a great tree called the Ellcrys that keeps the demons sealed away and it is tended to Elves known as the Chosen. Then Ellcrys starts dying allowing some demons to crossover one of them kills all the Chosen. Yet one Chosen Amberle Elessedil remains as she left her position and thus was made an outcast. The Druid Allanon and Wil Ohmsford rush to track her down before the demons find her and then convince her to return to her role as the last Chosen. Allanon employs Wil as Amberle Elessedil’s bodyguard as the two track down the seed needed to heal the Ellcrys. Near the end as the demon army surrounds the city and the demon king himself makes an appearance for a showdown with Allanon. As the demon army looks ready to take the city Amberle Elessedil comes to the dead Ellcrys and is transformed into the next Ellcrys sealing the demons away again. This is very similar to Oblivion where the Septim line is required to keep the Dragonfires burning keeping the Daedra from invading which is broken when the Uriel Septim VII and his heirs are assassinated apart from the illegitimate heir Martin Septim. Jauffre tasks you to track down Martin and protect him as you gather what is needed to fend of the Daedra threat. Then as the Daedra invades the city and Mehrunes Dagon himself make an appearance Martin Septim sacrifices himself to become an avatar Akatosh which is then transformed into statue after the battle preventing the Daedra from invading once again.
Try reading more than one or two fantasy novels. You'll see how stupid you sound. Like the people saying it was based on lotr because of a few design elements - they've never read. Expand your young mind
>>730872916dude at some point all fantasy and sci-fi novels/scripts copy each other, stop sweating about it.
Game was kino
>>730872916So I should read this instead of playing Elder Scrolls?
>>730873771So you’re saying that you can’t see how the two storylines directly parallel each other? There are a lot of similarities plus the Morrowind’s name geography was taken from the Shannara novels so is it so a stretch to say that the main quest of Oblivion was taken from Elfstones as well?
>>730874110No there’s more to Oblivion alone then just the main quest and you get a different experience playing an RPG then you do from reading a book. The Shannara novels are still well worth reading and you can see where a lot RPGs drew their ideas from.
>>730874048Looks comfy.
>>730872916>I’ve seen a lot of people say that Oblivion was based on Lord of the Ringswhat? first of all tl;dr. secondly, what the fuck are you on about? lotr's plot is absolutely nothing like oblivion. who the fuck is say that? is this bait?
>>730875643People say that they copied Hackson's LoTR aesthetics and guess he made up the rest.
>>730875643>first of all tl;dr.Zoomer attention span>secondly, what the fuck are you on about? lotr's plot is absolutely nothing like oblivion. who the fuck is say that? is this bait?I was saying that Oblivion is based Elfstones of Shannara not LOTR do Zoomers not know how to read? If you had bothered to read what I put rather than switching to a titkok video you would actually know what is being discussed.
>>730873925I’m not sweating about this, it’s something I noticed and thus thought it would make an interesting topic of conversation.
>>730875897I said Oblivion’s plot was taken from Elfstones of Shannara not LOTR
>>730878493You said that you've "seen a lot of people say that Oblivion was based on Lord of the Rings", retardbro.
>>730879312Yes, I’ve seen people here claim that it’s ripped off of Lord of the Rings but I’m arguing that the main quest is based on Elfstones of Shannara so any discussion about similarities with LOTR is irrelevant.
>>730879865So, this Anon >>730875643, (you) and me agree that you're an idiot who said "I’ve seen a lot of people say that Oblivion was based on Lord of the Rings". Case solved.
The Elfstones of Shannara was probably the best Shannara book...ripping it off makes sense. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, read Shannara past the original trilogy...hell, even the third book was starting to get stinky. The Scions of Shannara he wrote later was bad, and while I know he kept writing Shannara I did not keep reading it.
>>730880296No’s there’s plenty of people here making this claim herehttps://arch.b4k.dev/_/search/text/Oblivion%20LOTR%20ripoff/https://arch.b4k.dev/_/search/text/Oblivion%20Lord%20of%20the%20Rings%20ripoff/https://arch.b4k.dev/_/search/text/Oblivion%20Lord%20of%20the%20Rings/page/3/I never said I agree with them in fact I said that it’s far closer to Elfstones of Shannara. It’s irrelevant to the thread anyway which is about Oblivion’s main quest following main of the key points of Elfstones not what others have said in regards to it’s similarity to LOTR.
