Inspiration and Improvement
I'm 35 weeks into my stygian run with 10 bosses down and 2 deaths

is that the one that makes a limit to the amount of heroes that can die?
at this point, why don't you just pay a whore to stomp on your balls?
>>
It's a game that doesn't respect the player's time, so it's perfect for people who don't respect themselves

The dungeon vibes are cool and the general idea is neat. The gameplay balance is bad though. The final level made me the maddest I’d ever been in a video game where I had a team mid-exploration and when I came back the next day, the game had been patched and they no longer had any synergy with each other. It just pointlessly tacked on another 10 hours trying to grind up another team and having to relearn the new meta.

I am having legitimate fun with Lustiest Lair
I hear it changes the gameplay too. I'm like 40 weeks in. Never played the original to this point, so I can't say for sure

>you get faced with a terrifying and seemingly impossible challenge
>you learn and experiment to start figuring out strategies to overcome things you previously thought invincible
>eventually you improve to the point of winning and dominating the enemy instead of the other way around and you know you did it all with your own wits
>>
>>730875448
>impossible challenge
>the schizophrenic RNG
>bosses you have no way of knowing how to fight unless you get a party wipe or look it up

>having fun with LL

>no more fun
as much as i like LL, its still Darkest Dungeon

>he doesn't know about the retreat button
>he can't process the concept of risking or sacrificing characters for the sake of scouting an unknown enemy so that you can concoct a strategy for them to fight them later

It's ok anon, I said the fun comes from overcoming the odds with your wits, but I suppose not everyone has a lot of those to spare. I'm sure there's simpler, easier games out there for people like you.

When you play chess do you think you have to win with all your pieces still alive? Oh who am I kidding I doubt you know how to play chess.

You overprepare for everything and then 99% of the game is fucking boring just in case if 1% bad happens. And if you don't overprepare then you're increasing the 1% to 10% and when something goes wrong you couldn't care less because you literally griefed yourself because the game is so stale.

>>730876139
I think this is what they call getting filtered.

i get, like, four shovels, 16 food/cum, 12 torches, and at least three bandages/napkins and aphrodisiacs/whatevertheyorigianlly were

Anybody lose interest once you realize you can just escape when downed but not dead?
>>
>>730876239
And that makes it bad game. It's like a retard test but when you're not retard the game is boring and you're pretty much asking for your time to be taken away by repetitive grind.
>>
>>730876280
This too. You can just run away when something goes bad and it works vast majority of times. Yes you will get stress, but it's still much faster game progression wise than having to level a character all over again.

i don't want my balls stomped on
I want to feel like my decisions have weight in the extreme ugliness extermination simulator

There's something good and fun here but it's just missing something. I think Iratus did a better job in some ways.

Why is it that games which often feature this kind of artificial difficulty through heavy reliance on rng mechanics will always have people defending it and thinking they're geniuses for getting lucky and "learning" the game? The worst offender of this is fear and hunger, which most players will tell you that the META is literally just to run away from every fight because most enemies dont drop things you need to progress or get stronger. When the core mechanic of your game is not playing the game, you have a really weird problem in your design

Fear and Hunger also relies on a lot of trial and error but I will say is exceptionally more rewarding and satisfying because you can win encounters on your own if you're not a complete bitch, save the bosses.
most of the time, it is rng though

I remember when you could retreat without the current penalties. Devs basically bought into the meme that the game needs to rape the player in order for it to be fun, and have nerfed and introduced more and more penalities on the player as the game has existed. Another words, this is the audience they want>>730876526
>>
>>730876509
the way you lose is due to rng
the way you succeed isn't
if it takes me 20 hours to beat a 4 hour game, am I less engaged than if I take 13 hours to beat a 12 hour game?
well I can tell you I remember more from those 20 hours and I have more to talk about

You hate learning, that's ok, so does the majority of mankind.
>>
So is the main strat just upgrading buildings?
>>
>>730878550
That's pretty much for all """rouge-likes""". There are things that are permanent even after deaths, and the "strat" is getting/improving those. Once you get those, you're now baseline on RNG and at that point there's nothing you can do to objectively improve but hope you're lucky.
