Starting out you aren't going to have any good stuff you want to forma but it is kind of harsh. Off the top of my head you need about 10 forma worth of rooms, so not a huge amount.Researching is a grind. Most things are fine. Grinding is the game, so really if you didn't make your own clan you only played yourself. One exception is the Hema weapon which takes 5000 of a resource that drops a few at a time. That is a huge pain in the ass but not a good weapon anyway, plus you can just get a better version of it elsewhere.Of course there is also no actual benefit to making your own other than not being kicked out when you take a break.

Also, an important aside: Don't hump the meta. Warframe is a whack game where, while there is a definite meta, you can pump mods and resources into any weapon to make it god-tier. The result of this is that the truly amazing weapons require a fuckton of setup to make and get to that level.This is possible through a kind of mod called a Riven. Ignore these for now, in fact, ignore any video, guide, or braindead streamer who mentions Rivens at all. Rivens = gambling. They randomly drop, give you random stats you can spend a resource to reroll, and you need to be high MR (13-24+) to even equip them. A Riven is a force multipler. If a build demands a specific Riven to function it's dogshit and should be ignored entirely by new players.

If you aren't in a hurry to get to play with friends or something then you should engage with whatever is introduced in each quest before moving on. The story quests are usually an introduction to a new game mode/faction/mechanic/etc. Subsequent quests will (usually) assume you have engaged with whatever was introduced in the previous and grinded out a decent weapon or whatever and moving ahead without that can be frustrating. So take the time to rank the faction up a couple times, or to unlock a basic version of a weapon because usually the difference between the one you are given and the most entry level one you build yourself is massive.

You can set it to solo and never see anybody else outside of hubs if you really want. You should join a clan and will want to trade at some point but that's basically just asking for an invite from a clan with full research so you can get shit from them and you can skip any real haggling by using warframe.market so most trade interactions are literally just sending a message you copy and paste then both of you saying thanks before leaving. Also, you'll want to turn on MM for void relics because you can grab shit other people are opening so you have better odds of getting valuable items.

I think it'll be awhile before the Soma comes back around but you don't need to be geared to do SP circuit since it'll give you default mods and you get decrees that can make any frame go over the top. Since it's a long time to get another, you may want to save it for the Soma Prime if you're intent on getting that.I'd recommend trying to get galvanized chamber first since it'll likely be the easiest upgrade for how much it can do. If you're still having trouble with SP for arcanes then you can try getting something like Primary Crux from the Hex since it's pretty good on the Soma and you don't need SP to get it. Viral+Heat is also a very good generalist element combination for everything but the Infested on the Deimos open world and Murmur.
