Playstation controllers are the only controllers with good dpads to me, I want that discreet separation between the directions. Those dpad 'discs' on Xbox controllers are an abomination. Too bad ps5 controllers are built like shit and get stick drift comically fast. I got one of those 8bitdo chink controllers instead and its alright I guess.

M80, Ultimate 2C and Direwolf 4. I much prefer the shape of the Ultimate, especially when it comes to the shoulder buttons, but the sensation of the face buttons, dpad and sticks of the DW4 just feels much better.
For anyone who owns 8bitdo's flagship controllers, do they feel more premium than the 2C, or just about the same?

8Bitdo ultimate 2c, its pretty good but the face buttons are irritating me a bit, travel distance on the XYAB is quite a bit much for my liking as well as their damn noise
Any alternative that solves that? Silent or less noisy and shorter face buttons? Is the tegenaria lite like that?
The click on the 2C's shoulder buttons is kind of my tolerance for clicky noises and feel, would appreciate recommendations
Wish there was a Silksong thematic controller, instead we got a Rare anniversary one that is quite hideous, even if banjo gets a mention nowadays

Xbox basic ass controller, say what you, but it's basically the same thing since the Xbox 360 era, with some minor changes, and I'm a creature of habit, between trying out a Dualsense or third party and potentially hate it, I'll stick to the old reliable, even if I need to buy a new one each year because of the dogshit build quality. I did bought a 8bitdo when I had some cash to spare and it was on sale for like 20$, but I didn't like the lack of feedback when you pressed the buttons, and it had Playstation analog placement, it felt cheap.

I use an Xbone controller on my PC for now. I don't like it as much as the Xbox 360 controller, but it's fine.

if you have the tools and patience you can. otherwise just buy the sticks and go to your local repair shop. I paid 20€ for 4 sticks, and 40€ for the repair shop guy to replace them on 2 controllers. after that you need to calibrate the sticks (takes 2 min), and you're done.

Gamesir supremacy. My only complaint is that on Linux I can't run 2 on dongles, one has to be dongle and one has to be bluetooth or else the system thinks it's the same one controller
>>
>>730898475
how better is TMR compared to normal hall effect?
>>
>>730898905
Lower power consumption and "better" sensitivity that makes it more precise allegedly. That said, you aren't going to really notice or give a shit if youre upgrading from potentiometer to hall/TMR, both are a thousand times better anyhow
>>

>>
>>730899032
>>730898905
what he said, plus it feels smoother and has no drift chance whatsoever, basically magnets cannot drift, they have no friction.
>>
>>730898905
Hall effect sensors have low sensitivity in the center 10-20% or so of the stick. TMR sensors vary between designs, but the good ones are linear in output and usually less susceptible to magnetic interference.

>My only complaint is that on Linux I can't run 2 on dongles, one has to be dongle and one has to be bluetooth or else the system thinks it's the same one controller
Kind of a bummer.
You might be able to connect a nova lite or something so the controllers are different, unless the dongle is universal between gamesir branded controllers - if that's the case you're cooked.
I have an xbox controller as fallback so I haven't experienced that bit. haven't used it ever since though.

This is my Series Elite 2 controller. I like it a lot, but I actually think the normal XSX controller has better rumble.
>>
>>730898781
I assume you have an XSX controller. My thoughts on >>730900272
>Sticks feel nice. And I mean, REALLY nice.
>Too bad the L/R stick clicking kinda sucks and slips if you're moving the analog stick while trying to click
>The L/R bumpers hit a nice "bump" but the impact feels soft in a good way
>The additional profile features carry over as part of the firmware of the controller, and you can customize 1 profile for fighting games with more angular stick and deadzones. I made one with 50% rumble and tighter stick acceleration.
>The controller motivates me to connect to my PC dongle and play something on Dolphin pretty often.
>Rubber edges cost extra but it's very comfortable
The controller is a bit smaller than the normal XSX one and quite a bit heavier. The DPad feels just as clicky but it doesn't make as loud click sounds.

If you just want extra buttons and trigger stops and don't need Xbox/Sony certification, spend $25-80 on a Gamesir, BigBigWon, 8Bitdo, Gulikit, or Flydigi instead, or wait for the Steam Controller.
I have a Dualsense Edge, but I think it's pretty shit stock, especially for the price. The paddles are designed to fail in multiple ways, the battery life is atrocious, the trigger stops just halve the length you can press them rather than being an analog/digital toggle, d-pad is shit, stick modules are highway robbery for something that costs them pennies to make, and fn buttons aren't practical to remap since they disable the face buttons even when rebound.

I was able to get a Dualsense for $32 on goodwill's ebay site. It's a bit dirty, but it seems to be a common issue for these controllers and I guess I can use soap and water to give it a nice scrub down. Overall, $20 for the controller and $12 for shipping and tax I can't complain other than it not working right; However, it was testes for power so I know the port works at least and I didn't see any actual damage to the sticks, triggers or buttons.

>>730901283
Literally first thing I tried but it doesn't work
At this point the dongle itself has to be broken
>>
>>730901595
Not really. Think of it this way
Your (at least my) controller has 4 "modes"
>Xinput
Xbox controller(analog triggers, no gyro)
>Dinput
Playstation controller(analog triggers and gyro but shitty compatibility with PC games)
>Switch input
Switch controller(regular triggers, gyro)
The default configuration for the Cyclone 2 has it such that if you connect via dongle, it's in Xinput/Xbox mode, this might be a problem for you if you want the analog triggers and Gyro
The default configuration for Bluetooth is Dinput mode, this might be a problem if you play a game with poor playstatoon controller compatibility.
This can be corrected by holding start and select to change between these 4 modes while keeping the same connectivity

>All else being equal and/or only supports Xbox pads without fuckery
Xbox Elite S2 (most heavily used of my gamepads. Because of this, rubber grip has come off one side partially and one thumbstick lost its covering. These can both be repaired)
>Game supports DualSense features or otherwise is beneficial
DualSense Edge (or rarely regular DS for games that fuck up support for the Edge)

When controllers opt for mechanical over membrane, it's usually tact switch or microswitch. Only third party dome switch d-pads I can think of are 8Bitdo Ultimate 2(C) and Pro 3, and PXN P5 8K.

Using the touchpad is cheating. Noone would brag about playing CS on a steam controller because the touch pad and gyro is just barely less viable than mouse

$20 wired PC version of the 8bitdo... I like not having to deal with charging or connection issues. Just plug in and go... Good enough. I mostly use M+KB so no point to spend more to play a rogue like demo or game here and there

Which games do you usually use it for?
I found it works really well for games like Monster Hunter, 3rd person action games that require camera movement since I just bind right pad to act as a mouse camera
The second one will probably be even better for that

Yeah, I played Elder Ring on it, went great.

For the steam controller to really shine, devs need to get their shit together and universally allow simultaneous analog stick and mouse input

I ordered the Gulikit TT Max.
I've been hyped for it for a while, but I realize I'm buying it before there's been basically any reviews of it. So hopefully I don't get burned. Should be an upgrade over my worn-down Xbox controller, if nothing's wrong.
>>
>>730898781
I got a DualSense Edge during Black Friday since it was on discount and I had two GameStop gift cards to use, so I only paid around $75 for it. Definitely a pretty good controller on PC, but I wish it had longer battery life and that Steam Input doesn’t fuck with the way a game detects the controller. For $200 though, probably not, but definitely if you can get it around half price.

>Wasn't USB-C a thing in 2018?
Anon... The PS4 was released in 2013...... 13 years ago..........
>>
I wish they made that Gamesaar PS4 ripoff controller without the backpaddles
shit is so uncomfortable to hold when the paddles are right where your hands go and not offset a bit
>>
>>730919913
My main points of concern
>NS55 stick modules had design flaws and QC issues with the tension adjustment
>KK3 copied the Dualsense Edge paddle design, with the metal paddles held in by brittle plastic. Could be a failure point the TT copies.
Hopefully the 3 months of delay were to address one or both of those, but I'm still waiting for a teardown before I consider biting.
>>
>>730920196
I don't really use paddles, but I am concerned with the tension adjustment. I'd like to use that feature with N64 games and see if I can reach a level of precision that a good-condition N64 analog stick can reach. And play F-Zero X with it.

A keyboard and mouse because controllers are a compromised input designed for mass adoption and portability.
The fact FPS has to aim for you and you have to lock onto enemies in action games says it all.
There isn't a single genre controllers are the best at. Racing games use a wheel. Everything else is best on keyboard and mouse.

2.4G: The white one is USB-C but the black one is shitty micro-USB. There are arcane undocumented button combinations you hold to switch between xinput/dinput/switch mode.
Xbox: There are digital triggers but the cost is the bumpers are smaller. There's a profile+remap tool but it's kind of a pain to use. I guess it's the most compatible but shmups hardly use any buttons and usually have in-game remap.
Bluetooth: I'm not sure what the advantage is over the 2.4G is other than guaranteed USB-C and not having a dongle.
They all work wired so the basic experience is pretty much the same. Keep actions away from the tiny XYZ buttons as much as you can though. Using X and A together really sucks.

I was on my second DS4 and started noticing stick jitter, and I always had to hold it a certain way (which isn't uncomfortable but you do have to remember not to shift position) to keep the wired connection since the retarded plug falls out.

Anyway now I got a cheap chinese knockoff of the DS4 that's fully unremovably wired, and has hall effect sticks. Feels pretty good. It lacks gyro (I think) and touchpad, but I'm not a console gamer so anytime those would have been useful would be mouse games anyway. Turns out things have progressed massively for budget controllers since the days where being made to use a Madcatz or F310 was a form of bullying.

Dualsense with custom sticks because I've already went through three. But I can't get it to update for some reason, it always tells me that it needs to charge even though it's never been unplugged. Anyone else encountered this? I've tried plugging it into different devices and using different cables but nothing takes.
