They look better on a CRT, so if you care about the visual aspect, it's important to consider. Or you can use shaders even if they don't look as good. But playing retro games raw while upping the resolution is fucking disgusting.

You don't need it but for older consoles it was the intended display which makes some games look really good. It's like how you can watch movies on a tv or phone but using a home projector makes 35mm kinos in 4k look amazing.

I think nothing beats a CRT for PS2. I get by just fine with a Retrotink 5x with mine and emulation otherwise but I'll admit nothing compares to that look. It just really shines there in a way that Xbox and Gamecube dont, and feel more suited for modern screens by default.
