The DLC is pretty good. I bought it despite hating the ending. There's a Blame! map which gets pretty close, and a procedural map which scratches the itch completely. The procedural one is totally hostile and incoherent. Anti yellow paint. Supposedly he will update it. In it's current form I already feel like I could play it forever

Previous 2 parts also had some megastructure maps as well.
Enyo, even though the maps are not that huge, but the overall feeling and aesthetics are kinda close to Blame.
The Warden map is fuckhuge, but it's medieval.
Mjolnir episode 4 has probably one of the most vertical maps ever made in vidya, but its aesthetics are very far from Blame, more into sword and sorcery.

These are more walking simulator type games, but they've got cool settings.
>>
Halo
>>
>>730886638
I always imagined you could just work with the world as it is in the manga.
Procedurally generate a single, incomprehensively massive world, and spawn players randomly inside it. Sort of like a no man's sky type of thing where everyone is there but you're unlikely to find anyone.
For most players, gameplay is just walking and climbing forever. But the pipes actually carry materials and the non megastructure structures can be broken down for mats also (to be rebuilt by builders so the world file size stays reasonable and doesn't stray too far from the procgen map). The naturally generated materials lead to a gregtech style progression that requires a massive politically stable community to work through, eventually becoming like the Bioelectric Company in Blame.
Then these player civilizations on opposite sides of a solar system sized map can fight it out. Better hope your coords don't leak or you're getting a chunk of the sun teleported directly on top of your respawners. Meanwhile, most players are enjoying a walking simulator.
>>
>>730886796
I would call it a wifeslop game, because it's a bunch of little puzzles like what my wife plays
>>

>>
any games where it feels like you're actually exploring a massive construction instead of a nonsensical trash heap?
weirdly enough i feel like the best megastructure is the castle in ico, even if it misses the point of this thread
you're traveling through this huge castle where every room fits into a grand structure, and things largely seem like they serve a function (to a limit, it's a puzzle game after all)
>>
>>730887582
Its possible. Older games did exactly this with procgen, but 2D. I always wanted a space sim thats less about the usual star trek faggotry and more about traveling to and exploring mysterious megastructures for phat salvage loot.

I wonder if you know how big The City is. A special set piece could be so rare basically no one would ever see it (say, one instance per volume of the real life Earth) and it would still repeat roughly 2 quadrillion times. I did the math

About a trillion years ago this board theory crafted a game tentatively titled 'You Are Here' about exploring a never ending decrepit space mall filled with spoopy horrors. I always felt that a setting like that would work better in a game than something like BLAM where the megastructure is filled with absolutely nothing most of the time and the mere act of transversal would be a massive pain in the ass. Give me never ending rows of stores filled with useless trinkets or items critical to my survival, give me some creepy mall music always playing in the background, give me some barely lit claustrophobic backrooms and large empty lobbies decorated for holidays that doesn't even exist, megastructures can have personality too damnit.

Post-post apocalypse in a post-stellar megastructure.
Two nations have been at war for decades (this one of the few visible front lines because there's teleportation).
One of them is techno-fascist military run by an ancient AI superintelligence.
One of them is our-socialism-has-never-been-tried separatists.
Finally trying to sue for peace after decades of bombing one another with antimatter.
Player is part of a group in the fascists trying to make sure the peace delegations work out.
They don't. Ancient Illuminati fucks it all up.
Turns out that they were part of previous iterations of techno-fascist fascist, which the AI was dissatisfied with and blew up, causing 'the apocalypse'
This has happened literally millions of times over the course of a vigintillion years
AI was just using the peace talks to draw the Illuminati out
Thanks for being a cog in the machine. :)
Player character + friends decide to stay for fascists, leave for socialists, or join Illuminati.

>come up with a fuckload of rules "stairs next to hallways" "pipes next to treatment plant" etc.
>come up with a bunch of expansion rules "ExpansionA: corridor + corridor + bridge + corridor"
>generate noise representing density so you got big empty voids and dense vertical interconnecting shit.
>randomly apply these rules with a fixed seed.
the quality of this will come down to the complexity of the rules, which is where the real work would be, like having neighboring prefabs fit the same theme so it doesn't just look like a mishmash of tech shit.
it would be very difficult but once you'd done it you'd have infinite blame levels you could always just add more prefabs to.
