i was really let down by lorn's lureit's about as megastructure as a roblox obby
>>730882748The DLC is pretty good. I bought it despite hating the ending. There's a Blame! map which gets pretty close, and a procedural map which scratches the itch completely. The procedural one is totally hostile and incoherent. Anti yellow paint. Supposedly he will update it. In it's current form I already feel like I could play it forever

ok, let's say there's a BLAME! game or something that looks like BLAME! 99% : what you even do in a megastructure game? you get lost easily and don't know what to do, then what next?

>>730886638No one knows, just like the Blame author himself. You just wander around the cool architecture, that's everything people could came up with.
Naissancee and Blackshard. These are more walking simulator type games, but they've got cool settings.
Halo
>>730886638I always imagined you could just work with the world as it is in the manga. Procedurally generate a single, incomprehensively massive world, and spawn players randomly inside it. Sort of like a no man's sky type of thing where everyone is there but you're unlikely to find anyone. For most players, gameplay is just walking and climbing forever. But the pipes actually carry materials and the non megastructure structures can be broken down for mats also (to be rebuilt by builders so the world file size stays reasonable and doesn't stray too far from the procgen map). The naturally generated materials lead to a gregtech style progression that requires a massive politically stable community to work through, eventually becoming like the Bioelectric Company in Blame. Then these player civilizations on opposite sides of a solar system sized map can fight it out. Better hope your coords don't leak or you're getting a chunk of the sun teleported directly on top of your respawners. Meanwhile, most players are enjoying a walking simulator.
>>730886796I would call it a wifeslop game, because it's a bunch of little puzzles like what my wife plays
Ghostrunner
any games where it feels like you're actually exploring a massive construction instead of a nonsensical trash heap?weirdly enough i feel like the best megastructure is the castle in ico, even if it misses the point of this threadyou're traveling through this huge castle where every room fits into a grand structure, and things largely seem like they serve a function (to a limit, it's a puzzle game after all)
>>730887582Its possible. Older games did exactly this with procgen, but 2D. I always wanted a space sim thats less about the usual star trek faggotry and more about traveling to and exploring mysterious megastructures for phat salvage loot.

Bleak Faith Forsaken is a janky bitch fuck game. But goddamn do I love it. I should really get around to replaying it again.

>>730887582>procgen megastructurehow would you even do this? natural environments are easy because they just use noise maps and like five tree structures, but The City?I can't even begin to imagine how to automatically generate something as consistent and varied as the sights of Blame.

>>730889439You make a lot of single pieces, and then come up with an algorithm to randomly join them together.

>>730890187hence why you first make a shitload of base pieces and greebles, then use those to generate ton and tons of prefab modules, then use those to generate the CityObviously you could still make one-shot/very rare set piece locales like >>730889787
>infinite procedurally generated structure made from handcrafted modular piecesthis minecraft zoomerslop beat you to it
>>730890347>one-shot/very rare set piece localesI wonder if you know how big The City is. A special set piece could be so rare basically no one would ever see it (say, one instance per volume of the real life Earth) and it would still repeat roughly 2 quadrillion times. I did the math
>>730890392this would be cool if it was in anything but Minecraft
>>730890646>I wonder if you know how big The City isNTA but didn't the author say it was estimated to be the size of Jupiter?
>>730890710it is and will remain the goat at infinite procgen
>>730890646No I know what scale we're dealing with here, I meant 'one-shot' or 'very rare' in the sense that the average player might never even see certain structures in person, only hear of it from other players/see pictures of it shared online
>>730890748He said the city extends past the ORBIT of Jupiter. The city is two light hours across.

To an extent, Darktide. Most of the game's missions take place in a hive city and looking up doesn't guarantee sky.
>>730882147Cyan brain, kinda, the background is sometimes full of megastructure stuffs. The enemies looked like silicon life creatures and the characters have that sullen and dopey looks to them, signature of nihei's character design.
About a trillion years ago this board theory crafted a game tentatively titled 'You Are Here' about exploring a never ending decrepit space mall filled with spoopy horrors. I always felt that a setting like that would work better in a game than something like BLAM where the megastructure is filled with absolutely nothing most of the time and the mere act of transversal would be a massive pain in the ass. Give me never ending rows of stores filled with useless trinkets or items critical to my survival, give me some creepy mall music always playing in the background, give me some barely lit claustrophobic backrooms and large empty lobbies decorated for holidays that doesn't even exist, megastructures can have personality too damnit.
>>730891751I liked it

>>730891123I don't know why Blame fans wank this particular part off so much to be honest. The art here is literally a black void and you'd never pick up on any sense of scale without reading that text.
>>730895364That's kind of the point
>>730895364There's nearly always a wall of the megastructure visible in shots throughout the manga, a black void instead of a huge wall is significant. Not to mention the scale is set up earlier in the chapter multiple timest. autist

>>730882147Echo (2017)

It's not brutalistic chaos, but the megastructure in Echo is a planet sized mansion created by giga-ultra-mega rich sociopaths to torture people.I'm particularly fond of it because some of my dreams happen in impossibly big masions.
>>730884667I've been playing QBJ3 and getting really mad that nobody thought to make a Blame! map with the Invoker as the only weapon.
