a dungeon crawler were u can't see ur party and they all move at the same time so they behave like a "blob"

Yes, but not when you need to click on 20 buttons just to order them to attack and maybe heal once in a few turns.

Thoughts on Legend of grimrock?
>>
>>730890564
Now that the dust has settled, did it provide the INCLINE?
>>
>>730890564
I can't get Grimoire to fucking run on Linux.

However, I have been enjoying The Dark Heart of Uukrul a ton recently.
>>
Yall motherfuckers need Cleve.
>>
>>730893454
I would love it if it had turn-based combat but I despise real-time combat blobbers with their weird dancing combat.

Vaporum was less annoying on this front because you only had one character to play with instead of Grimrock's janky party management.

It's pretty good. I like the focus on puzzles, and directly interacting with stuff rather than just pressing an interact key is always nice.
Ignore what the other guy said, Vaporum is trash.

>>730890612
It's what one retard tries to call dungeon crawlers and it will never catch on because the word means fucking nothing.
>>
>>730896861
"Dungeon crawlers" are used too loosely, and could refer to Nethack, Eye of the Beholder, or Diablo.
>>
What's the point of party systems when they just slow the player down?
Just make the PC more powerful
>>
>>730890724
That is absolutely retarded. Do you think it becomes a different genre if you control only one character istead of a team? Retard.
>>
>>730897443
Kind of yeah.
>>
>>730893454
Unironically two of the best in the genre.
>>
>>730896861
>>730897443
What's wrong with specificity? When you say the term blobber, you can picture exactly what kind of game it is and what games it was inspired by.
>>
>>730895091
Probably the worst EO game desu
>>
>>730899239
No, I imagine some kind of slime game. Like Super Monkey Ball, but with goo.
>>
>>730899239
I don't like blobber because my team of specialized heroes have backstories and personalities and chat with each other as they navigate the perilous corridors while checking for traps and devious monsters.

>Another Grimoire thread

It always weirds me out to see this because I actually met Cleve IRL and knew his son Cooper in university
>>
>>730897443
Yes, of course it does.
>>
>>730899627
That's great and all but they're still moving through dungeons together, you know, like a blob.
>>
>>730899945
How are they doing since they fled Australia?
>>
This thread is inclining...!
>>
>>730899945
did he show you his note from the doctor?
>>
>>730899239
It's a misleading name. They should be called gelatinous cubers because they generally all take place in a dungeon and you're usually moving your party through the dungeon corridors in a square formation.
>>
>>730890612
8 niggas in a blob
>>
>>730900159
I haven't talked to Cleve in a long time but Cooper seems fairly settled in after a relatively tumultuous time

>>730900326
Last time I spoke to Cleve it was around 2019/2020 so any new stuff I wouldn't really know. Fun fact, his favourite Fallout/preferred nu Fallout (can't remember exactly which one) is Fallout 3 which was surprising to me given he was an RPGcodex person
>>
How many people actually beat Wizardry and Wizardry-like games without any cheating or savescumming?

>anti-grinding feature: enemy encounter rates drop as soon as your characters reach parity with them
>many enemies can use instant death, decapitation, and petrification
>resurrection isn't guaranteed
>cost of recovery is very high
>>
>>730900326
If he's really got a doctor's note I want to meet that doctor to see if he's an actual doctor or just some fucking schizo junkie who refers to himself as a doctor because he's got a shit ton of prescription narcotics.
>>
Is there any good PS4/5/vita blobber that's not anime shit?
>>
>>730890564
I like all of Etrian
labyrinth of refrain was okay
I played mary skelter for 3 areas then dropped it
I dropped stranger in sword city immediately
so I'm not sure I'd say I like blobbers as a whole, but I like some of them I guess
I mostly like the h blobbers I've played but that's a little bit different
>>
In gwimwah, you can wide on turtlez...

you are brown
>>
>>730901149
I'm whiter than you, mutt.
>>
>>730894783
Fuck, The Dark Heart of Uukrul. This game was absolutely awesome for its time.
>>
>>730900646
name some good h blobbers
only one i know is what's it called, violated hero? the series about the hero getting raped by dungeon monsters as he goes through
>>
>>730900758
I thought Cleve invented this until I played the Final Fantasy pixel remasters
>>
>>730901379
It's such a vibe. I wish there was music, but I've been supplementing with DOS soundtracks.
>>
>>730899627
If you can visualize apples in your mind, then why can't you visualize character backstories and their interactions in your mind?
>>
>>730890564
Yeah, they're fun. I'd recommend muting the music on that one, though, otherwise you'll go insane listening to crappy MIDI trumpets as you try to reroll stats.
>>
>>730901660
I made fun of the apple wizard one too many times. Now I can only comprehend things in terms of apples.
>>
>>730892678
I played the shit out of Hack when I was a child, and so did my parents. I remember our VERY well-worn sheet of copy protection codes that sat in the drawer of our quintessential 90's computer desk like it was yesterday.
Turns out the game is kinda a slog.
>>
>>730901548
Enemies exploding when their life bar went down, the stuff written in walls you could translate, the puzzles... everything.
Shit, even the weird save system was something
>>
>>730901451
Evening Starter
Maomao & the Labyrinth
these are the two that I thought were actually good
Lilitales, Lilipalace, and Demon Master Chris were okay mostly because they have h scenes. Otherwise I wouldn't have played them.
I played Lightning Warrior Raidy 1 as well but didn't like it much. I got the 2nd one for free when they gave it out at 100% off for covid but still haven't played it yet.
>>
>>730890564
i hate zoomgroids so fucking much, it's unreal
>>
>>730901798
Player death is surprisingly less punishing than I remember, and I enjoy that you're playing with a fixed party instead of having to fuss over the composition and balance.

My mage is the only survivor from the original 4. Kind of sets a tone in the party.
>>
>>730901893
thanks bro, i actually forgot about the lili* games, i think i have them downloaded somewhere... i'll check out the others
>>
>>730890612
a retarded misnomer parroted by retarded nigger zoomoidals
if i EVER catch one of you fucking faggots uttering that gay nigger retarded shit in the wild i'm gonna stab your fucking neck out like that russian guy did to that tajik kid
>>
Warriors of the Eternal Sun is one of my favorite games ever. It's only partially a blobber though.
>>
>>730902271
Pretty dope soundtrack for Genesis, though.
>>
>>730899239
yea the autist who invented the term blobber couldnt conceptualize how the party moved on one dungeon tile per step.
>"It would be like a blog of flesh with arms and weapons sticking out of it, moving slowly through a dungeon" or something to that effect.
Someone on /vr/ was pushing it as "the next metroidvania or scottformer" genre. Fuck I these people so much, and the millennial need to label every fuckign little thing.
Every sub-sub-genre of music, every aesthetic, the 12 sub-genres of "run and gun" video games, and the 47 sub-genres of turn based WRPG.
>>
>>730901732
At least the apple wizard sends you new apple computers when they come out so you always have the latest and greatests
>>
>>730890564
>Blobber
What's wrong with using the term "Dungeon Crawler"?
>>
>>730903483
The party isn't always traveling in a dungeon.
>>
>>730903483
blobber = dungeon crawler
dungeon crawler doesn't = blobber
>>
Wizardry Daphne Variants is great
>>
>>730897443
>TES is a blobber
Good to know.
>>
>>730892123
Fuck off Cris
>>
>>730903483
people use the term casually to describe other types of games
When I see someone call Dark Cloud 2 a dungeon crawler, what they mean is that it is a a game that takes place in dungeons. Nobody would ever call it a blobber by mistake.
>>
>>730903483
"Dungeon crawler" became broader than
>four niggas in a square
Nowadays, it can also be applied to games like Ultima Underworld, TES, and Diablo, as opposed to just blobber/DRPG games like Wizardry and M&M.
>>
>>730903483
because zoomers are retarded niggers with brainfried attention spans and dungeon crawler is 2 more syllables than they can store in their smooth pea-sized brains
