I would say it's getting more fun an interesting as the playerbase matures.

A lot of unlocks that people thought were bad are slowly being understood.

I absolutely LOVE the Third Degree.
>>
>>730892412
Meh. New maps are poorly optimized and buggy, cosmetic overload has also caused the game to run worse across the board, and the community metastasized into a the gayest fucking cancer, possibly due to the only people left are either people who are fine with the bots raping matchmaking for EIGHT fucking years, or were willing to accept sucking e celeb cock to play on a community server.
Fundamentally the core game is still good, but the state of where it is vs where it was is a big fucking gap.
>>
I'd probably say it's still one of the most fun shooters you can play online right now, even if it's basically impossible to talk about online because of a pride parade of annoying faggots mad that Valve won't give them free shit
>>
>>730892412
Nope.
>80% of the playerbase are retarded to the point jose.gonzales2006 seems MLG by comparison.
>Every other game will have a furfag/tranny/furfag tranny that will not shut the fuck up about being a degenerate (though they can be mildly entertaining to fuck with especially if there's 2 of them; talk shit once they will OBSESS over you upwards to an hour).
>Everything >>730893547 said.
It will always have a playerbase but it's more or less a game you revisit occasionally to remember the good times. Like playing UT99/04 on Facing Worlds.
>>
Also like, if you're actually curious OP, there's a reason people in here are whining about bots that have been dead for years.
Most of the people "talking about the game" don't actually play it.

Yeah, you'll usually have one super retard fresh install of his very first video game and one omega 9k hour autist on your team, but it's still really fun. Legit can't think of a single game that has a class as unique as Spy, and the movement tech you can do with blast jumping or trimping as demoknight is one of a kind
>>
>>730892558
>127 dmg

>>
>>730894560
i understand quitting the game and assuming its still just as bad. he is wrong that it is still a problem, but spinbotters and otherwise malicious cheaters were a problem for years. i don't play tf2 very often anymore, but i attribute the negative feelings of both disappointment in never finding a good game and paranoia in never completely trusting a good player.
you couldn't even consistently rely on community servers. the populated vanilla servers up now, weren't a fucking thing when this was a problem. it was SERIOUSLY only cp_orange, 24/7 instarespawn 2fort, and equivalent, because people using community servers didn't understand why you would want to play vanilla on a nonvalve server.

This isn't remotely an issue that is unique to tf2 and stating anything remotely equivalent to that is outing yourself as a fagmaster.
>>
>>730900814
not necessarily my own paranoia. people were getting instant votekicked for even picking sniper or using ambassador, that was how bad it was.
it was never a problem to me directly when it was uncommon, i could just extendfreeze and spectate a player before accusing. but all i wanted was a fair game, so when it became a 100% chance that there would be cheaters on a server, i was spectating more than i was playing. it fucking sucked

Yeah, no retard, what I'm saying is cheating is endemic to online multiplayer and has been for like a decade now.
You could have made a point about bots, but instead you decided to double down on some shit that literally only makes sense if you straight up do not play any other games online.
>>
>tfw got gud enough with the Direct Hit to get hackusations
Theres nothing quite like airshotting with a DH, especially towards trollders
>>
I really don't care personally whether somebody is a cheater or just a really good sniper. If somebody is using the one class that has the ability to one-shot anybody from across the map to such effect that they can do it over and over to where the game is no longer fun, the result is the same either way. I don't somehow feel better about it knowing that the person has developed an absurd level of skill at this one mechanic rather than toggled a cheat. The person is a piece of turd regardless and everybody's game besides theirs is less fun for it.
>>
>>730901651
I'm sorry Luigi :(
>>
>>730901710
because cheating players in team fortrtess 2 were also a problem around that time, retard. it was a NEW problem. cathook and derivatives were not just bot software, they were free and open source cheating suites. every kid and their mother was trying it out, it was impossible to have a good time. how could you even say what happened to team fortress 2 is comparable to just 'lole other games have cheaters too'?
>>
>>730894560
Last I heard the bots were back to some capacity. Not nearly as bad as they used to be though and a lot of them a focusing on taking up server space when can still fuck games up. Thinking bots were the only problem with tf2 is extreme ignorance though.

I bought a strange version because they're cheap so why not.

Was playing around with it and realized medics have a tendency to switch their healing beam to low health targets... Meaning a normal melee hit is lethal to their target a lot of the time.

One thing I really enjoy is the dynamic of 2fort. One scenario I love to play is when both teams are turtling hard and you single handedly are able to infiltrate their base slowly. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but when you finally kill all the heavies, pyros, sentries, and other enemies then escape with intel, it feels like you beat a single player espionage game on insane difficulty

0% chance that quickplay will come back exactly how it was, but I think casual will eventually get some important bandaid fixes. They can't afford to ignore it for the MvM update because that uses the same matchmaking system, which has proven to constantly break in recent updates as more maps are added.

Have you played in the last two Scream Fortress events? So many maps are simultaneously in rotation that the game just gives up and won't accept any queues. Valve can get away with it there, but if the MvM update will have monetized missions, the fanbase will cry endlessly if they can't play with broken matchmaking.

I had someone join my rc2_walkway map while I was playing and it crashed my game. I have never seen that happen before and legitimately made me scared. I don't run any server, so I believe it shouldn't have been open. I normally just launch it from the console. I know there are secret easter eggs on the map I doubt that is some secret thing.

using it on a mimisentry essentially removes the engi's ability to build sentries entirely for the entire duration of the sapping since they can't destroy it nor build another one (and it doesn't give frontier justice crits until then), and many of them will simply let the tape run it's course instead of breaking the sapper due to being conditioned to minis being disposable
>>
For a person who has 3k hours on it? No.
New players who have never mastered the game? Yes
But most old players have gone to other more alive games as this game doesn't have an new major update for nearly 10 years
>>
>>730913531
mini sentries rarely do anything. blowing up his teles and dispensers asap is going to have a greater impact.
>>
>>730912978
>unbuild a building immediately after engineer places it (such as uncloaking right in his face and making him panic)
>longer time to sap means frontier justice crits don't come out as fast when you elect to revolver duel him
>he's usually away from his mini so the longer sap time means he cannot replace it as quickly, also see above
>removes all metal from dispensers, this is extra important on maps without a large ammo pack nearby to rebuild his supply and nest
>eureka effect still allows him to teleport to a sapped exit, but not one that's still building
>if there's a pyro humping the gun, sacrificing yourself for a stab and sap will deal "damage" that cannot be quickly undone, and the subsequent delevel means your team has less knockback to worry about
>the psychological damage of making him have to spend time upgrading everything all over again instead of whacking it twice to repair can be enough to drive him mad (and you should communicate with your team so they can capitalize on it)

how often are you playing against multiple competent gunslinger engies? never
>>
>>730913607
>>730913894
The best use of a mini sentry is as a sort of radar to help you cover more ground. Just on their own they're more useful as area denial tools and means of stalling lighter classes. If you're shotgunning someone your mini is targeting they're gonna die pretty quick, unless it's a heavy, though.
>>
>>730914005
There's also the fact that the act of putting down a mini seems to mysteriously brainrot the enemy and force them to shoot at the sentry in the process of being built instead of the texan pumping lead into their faces
>>
>>730914005
engie players never use their shotgun. if they didn't suck at dm they wouldn't be playing engie. I only see engies ever swap to gunslinger if there's a good scout bullying their team.

>>
>backburnerflareted
German is a strange language
>>
>>730914103
It's a good, nice, and obvious distraction. Helped by the fact that players percieve minis as being dangerous - which they are to light classes, but anyone Pyro or beefier can 1v1 it from full health and win, but people extrapolate that danger to whenever they're playing any class and will usually hard focus the mini, even if the engineer is usually a bigger threat, damage-wise. It's helped that it's alot easier to hit a stationary target.

>>730914143
This is only the case with new players whose idea of engineer is building a level 3 and hiding behind it for most of the game with mouse 1 taped down. The Gunslinger forces you to use your shotgun, for one, and the shotgun is generally better than the wrench at dealing with spies. Around 70-90 damage per meatshot if you can aim, versus 65 with a wrench, and fires quicker than you can swing. Plus, even without the gunslinger, engies can still pop out from behind their sentry to geek enemy players trying to be clever or trying to hit it from a blind spot.

Because it's fun to kill the engie and break his things completely. But if a solo spy can do that, that implies the nest wasn't a big problem in the first place and in an equal environment a soldier/demo could have done it as well. A red tape spy however can render a good nest useless simply because a level 2 sentry can't do anything against a push, let alone a level 1. You wouldn't even need uber. Just comm with a red tape spy and once he saps you go in. The sapper dying doesn't matter because the engie will need to swing 8 times to get it back to lvl 3 + the animation inbetween 2 and 3 where it doesn't fire + he won't be able to upgrade as you shoot it
>>
>>730892412

level 2s are actually deceptively good
they have the exact same bullet damage and firerate as a level 3, they just have less health and no rockets (also they have a lower profile so a lvl3 might in some rare cases be able to clear obstacles and map geometry that a lvl2 can't)
when hit once with a jag they redeploy as fast as a minisentry builds
they cost 200 less metal than a lvl3
they have legitimate use cases, and they can probably hold an uber off with the wrangler if it's a lower DPS class
>>
>>730921560
Well, most of the time if I have backstabbed the engie then I want the red tape so he has to listen to that sound for longer.

This moment has lived rent free in my head for a few years now by the absolute illogical thought process of it.
Blu wiped the entire red team off, I happened to respawn the earliest and the only survivor was a medic with full uber. As Heavy with full uber medic, I awaited any prompt arrival of blu to hold them until my teammates respawn.
When the blu arrived, before dropping a few of them and my health hit low, I fully expected the medic to pop the uber and save the round but in the biggest showcase of cowardice I have ever witnessed in my history of playing video games, the coward ran to the respawn which lost our round.

Literally everyone ridiculed this guy. Even blu started making fun of him before he left. It wasn't even a case of him being a newbie, he was legit a fucking coward.

my favorite part is that it is 6s, so the entire enemy team is alive and staring at the lone taunting demoman

On one hand, being a medic with a full uber but without the right conditions to use it makes you feel like there's a permanent spy and scout breathing down your neck no matter where you turn
On the other hand, what the fuck, what happened to the "pop it" part of pop it don't drop it
Sometimes it feels like these medics tore the M2 button out of their mouse

i've done it a bunch of times before but usually at like 3am when there's no chance of anybody seeing me
I didn't pay attention to the time and thought it was later, if I realized I would have just gone to the bathroom but I was trying to not wake myself up too much and make it harder to go back to sleep

Literally what thought process would warrant this type of behavior? Not even jews or niggers possess such thought process.
>>
>>730927846
quickfix is the dedicated
>this team is so ass I have no hope of ever living long enough to get uber/kritz
medigun, it excels at keeping mouthbreathers alive in pubs by rapidly topping them off and hoping to win by outliving the enemy
>>
>>730927846
>>meds who never flash uber
???
>>
>>730927954
Quickfix is objectively worse at healing than a stock med who is good with the crossbow. If that was the only problem with it I wouldn't care but the uber is fucking awful.
>>
>>730927986
rapidly switching uber targets to give a player in danger a split second of invincibility
>>
>>730928012
knockback invulnerability is at least really funny in the rare occasions when a pyro forgets about it and tries to airblast you away, only to fucking die instantly
>>
>>730927986
Unless you are uber trading it's always worth flashing in multiple power classes in an uber. Soldier can bomb to close the gap or cut off the retreat, scout can clean up stragglers, pyros can cause chaos, etc. Also you should flash to save teammates from dying if you don't need the full 8s or are just trying to maintain momentum.
>>
>>730928074
If it gave sentry damage resistance it would at least have a niche for countering pyro/engie stacking.
>>
>>730928029
>>730928131
I understand saving players from dying, but wouldn't flashing waste seconds and also send confusing signals to your team. I don't see how the flashing is always a good idea which how you worded it.

Also disgaree about the "flashing multiple power classses" thing.
>>
>>730892412
The matchmaking they put in a while ago is so dumb, I don't know what they were going for with that
>>
>>730928012
For single-target the crossbow straight up outheals the medigun
But for multiple people, flashing quickfix uber + crit heals can give a team the second wind it needs to not be wiped out by an enemy push
>>
>>730928282
It was originally designed to appease competitive players, but shortly before the update came out for whatever reason, they decided to have it also replace quickplay and fuck everyone over.
>>
>>730928273
the usual way to do it with an uncoordinated team is to have one main uber target and to flash people if the need arises then return to ubering the main guy
due to uber mechanics making it so it has to fizzle out instead of stopping the instant it runs out, flashing a single teammate for a second will give them a fairly long period of invincibility while the main target remains completely invincible throughout the pause, in most cases they don't even notice it
>>
>>730928273
You don't need the full 8s if you have double the firepower and flashing multiple classes lets them cover each other's weaknesses. Scout and demo are a classic example. Demo can put out a lot of damage but can struggle to finish off running away players and is forced to use pipes if they run towards him, scout solves both of those problems and also gives the medic a speed boost to make it harder to juggle him. The only time the 8s matters is if you are exchanging ubers and whoever runs out of uber first loses.
>>
>>730928303
Too bad quickfix still has the flash penalty so it's shit even for that.

random crits may be unbalanced and unfair, but I cannot imagine the game without them
is it even TF2 if I don't hear spy_death_critical.wav the second I join a match?

I want to play TF2, but the fucking casual suuuuuuucks and I don't know any proper servers. Also Valve refuses to fix TF2 proper.
Just bring back quickplay, it was so much more fun to be able to play multiple rounds of plr maps.

Nah all the good servers have been dead for years. I'd pay money to play OG zombie fortress again with all the perks

Way too many maps for no fucking reason, as if the game needs obstacles for you to play

a/d, ctf, koth, cp, pl should be 8/6/10/8/12 maps max. valve pls fix
>>
>>730929636
Community maps in recent years (especially holiday ones) keep insisting on having guest announcers and they’re all amateurish and shit
>>
>>730929838
which makes the decision to add them and keep them in the game even more baffling. if they remove all these shitty maps we would have a way better experience finding a game

valve pls fix
>>
>>730929838
All PD maps have to have guest announcers because Valve never recorded limes for it.
>>
>>730929962
It’s not a complicated game mode, pd_watergate was just a particularly shit first example and it put everyone off the concept forever.
It’s TDM where you collect dog tags and deposit them in the middle of the map in a spot that opens and closes intermittently. You can figure it out through the GUI alone.

The only two scenarios I see where red tape might be useful is either vs gunslinger or frontier justice engis.
Gunslingers don't give a flying fuck about their minis 99% of the time and will just drop another one the second it goes down so keeping one inactive for like 10 seconds and cucking engi out of dropping another one could help.
Frontierfags want their sentry to go down eventually so either they'll do it themselves or let someone kill it. This one just wastes time so he either gets impatient, runs to the sentry to try to repair it so he can self-destruct it and gets killed in the process or has to wait like a minute for it to go down itself.
Of course all of this is in the vaccum where a homewrecker pyro doesn't cuck you or your teammates don't rush and kill the sentry themselves, ruining the whole purpose
>>
>>730892412
It can be, but it's definitely not as interesting anymore when the only servers that exist are Uncle Dane, Skial, and trade shit. The golden days of TF2 are long gone with the communities that used to breathe life into the game either being defunct or on their way out. Matchmaker is the worst way to experience TF2 and the only server I do go on I'm only there once every couple months because playing with the same people over and over gets dry.
