RE5 didn’t have co-op for a long stretch of its production, and only had Chris as the sole protagonist, with Jill, Barry, and Sheva as AI companions that would drop in and out as the story progressed, like Luis. Capcom felt forced to make the game a co-op game, and make Sheva the permanent co-op partner, after the initial racism controversy back in the day. Sheva, and by extension the co-op system, were literally tacked on to the game at the last minute.

I don't like the idea of Leon(one of the main franchise heroes) dying. One of the big reason fans love the series is that despite all the horrors that happen to them, they always end up surviving on the end.
