>>730919286SMT Strange journey modern version of the old first person dungeon crawling game.SMT IV which is a very soft reboot of 1 in that it has a lot of parallels that being said it does reference a lot of the older games especially 1 and Strange journey even if it isn't actually part of both games canon unless you count multiverse shenanigans which isn't relevant outside of a dlc questSo you might want to play SMT 1 and SJ before 4 if you want to get the most out of it.Main reason why I recommend these games, because they aren't a direct sequel like SMT 2 and to a lesser extend V and they use the law/neutral/chaos alignment system which is what most SMT games are based around.Nocturne isn't necessarily a sequel, but it does subverts a lot of the franchise's tropes which you won't really appreciate untill you are somewhat familiar with the franchise.That being said if you don't give fuck about all that nocturne is also a good place to start and it is the first smt game for a lot of people.That being said my first entry was a Devil Survivor 1 which does a decent job at introducing the law/neutral/chaos alignments, but unlike the mainline games which are dungeon crawlers DeSu is an SRPG.Knowing what I just told you you can decide for yourself if you care about being familiar enough to know when a franchise trope is being subverted or referenced and chose the that game appeals to you to the most.

>>730926551IVA is a natural progression from IV. IV has a nice alien feeling since you're an outsider to tokyo. IVA changes that into a more familiar theme since you're a tokyo native. Plus the gameplay is honestly the best in the series for me, I feel 5 and VV were a step down.
