What is the equivalent of a gaming magazine in this day and age?
>>
There is none. Reading the newest edition of your favorite magazine before the internet was a magical experience. Who would have thought not having 24/7 access to something is actually what we as humans enjoy most and is based ony all evidence best for us.

based and true. which hours do you refrain from breathing? for me it's while I'm gooning after a hard days work.
>>
Honestly there is no equivalent. The best thing was getting the newest edition and reading through all of it to get the newest peek into the then current state of gaming. And the best thing was you had no idea what surprises would await you.
Only positive thing about today is having such a great variety of being able to engage with gaming as a hobby. Plus there are a lot of good really in depth analyses of your favorite games, something which old gaming magazines obviously couldn't achieve.

Kek. Every 2 hours I take 2mins break from breathing, so I'll be able ro appreciate it more afterwards.

maybe the closest feeling is like watching a new youtube video pop up about a trailer of a game you are excited about
you are just awaiting for more info, and there it is

Like most parts of gaming culture, they have been replaced by joining a discord, googling "site:reddit.com", browsing 4chan, and watching livestreams. There is no longer any mystery about upcoming releases (leaks, datamining), nor are there jumps in technology to speculate on, nor mystery about Japan-only games that you would rely on the editors to import and tell you about, so you could in turn lord your borrowed knowledge over other people.

The UK Nintendo magazines (NGC and to a lesser extent NOM) were comedy gold during the GameCube era and I miss them greatly.
>>
you can find out about games on X. its the only place where creators are able to freely advertise without going through (((pre-approved))) channels
>>
The worst part is, other than /v/, which like every big board has itself become a cesspit post-2016, there is no monolithic lens with its own built-up culture to learn and read through; we all know online gaming journalism is worthless, so you're left with the unprofessional, jumbled, misbegotten and often disingenuous and contrarian thoughts of other random dickheads on one of our various democratic soapboxing forums that are almost all half-social media with all the bullshit that entails
>>
Are you breathing right now?

this, zoomers will argue since they must cope from being born in this shithole, but its true. gone is finding a hidden gem youv never heard of in a blockbuster or pawnshop. gone is being surprised.
