I selected the hardest difficulty for the demo, used the default 'tactic' of 'show no mercy' (to just have my characters go for the most offensive move possible unless low HP, then they heal), and just let the battles auto-play as i sat back and watched them

every encounter was won by this way, and only when i was low mana did i go to a statue to refill my HP and MP and save my game.

I never played the original or any dragon quest game since 1 and 2 for the game boy color, but is that really what the rest of the game will be like? I can't lie and say that i didn't just mash the A-button to get through battles in those other games, but it does feel a little odd to skip the middleman and just watch the game mash the A-button for me and play itself in every combat scenario (in the demo at least).
