Players complain that there's no reason to go to any specific area

Players complain about being forced to go to specific areas for specific items

Players complain about having to explore

Make the game that you want, your audience will follow if its good. Someone will always find something to complain about, in any (and every) context. Making a game for everybody results in a game for nobody.

1. Don't make a fucking "open" (Empty) world game
Problem solved. If you fucked up and did not follow 1:
2. Make actual content and not random loot collectathon bullshit for mindless bugs.
Problem solved. If you are a shit developer and don't have the production pipeline to fill out the world with actual content:
3. Stay in early access for a decade while you slowly add shit to the empty world
>>
If you add rewards to going somewhere it's not exploring, it's now a required task. Are developers really this stupid?

>>
>>730911987
sounds like the devs aren't very good at making a good game and thankfully the fanbase is able to direct them in better directions, the devs sound very lucky
regardless open world games as a general suck total fucking dog shit, make them fun to explore by adding cool places to visit which require actual interactions of traversal, possibly needing tools/skills to do so
add cool/interesting reasons to visit them but not just power creep, cosmetic upgrades is a better incentive than just +1 damage which can be outclassed in a different area for +2 damage

>How do you solve this problem?
by stopping trying to cather to all type of players all at once.
It's like with puzzle games, some people will complain that the puzzles are too hard, others that the puzzles are too easy, others that the puzzles are ok but they don't offer much challenge.
The solution?
Some puzzle games are not made to be hard, they're made for people who like puzzle games but find most puzzle games too hard, so they're made to be easier.
Other puzzle games are not made to be easy, they're made for people who like puzzle games but find most puzzle games too easy, so they're made to be harder.
Other puzzle games are not made to be easy or hard, they're made for people who like puzzle games but find most other puzzle games to be either too easy or too hard, so they're made to be the middle ground.
The moment you try to make ONE puzzle game that cathers to ALL type of players, those who like hard puzzles, those who like easy puzzles, and those who like middle ground ones, it's the exact moment ALL type of players will complain about some of the puzzles in your game.
Stop cathering to ALL players ALL at once.
>>
>>730917169
Ah, heard about it, but didn't know it had catgirls.
Did seem popular.
>>
>>730917204
Puzzle games was a bad example because you can make 40% of the puzzles mild with only 40% needing to be done to finish the game and then 60% gradually harder and harder to appeal to people who want hard ones. Something like I Wanna Lockpick is a good example of what I said.
>>
>>730917204
Stop trying to cater to all players at once? But how will companies make the big buckaroos then if they limit themselves to a smaller audience pool?
>>
>>730911987
The scadu fragments in the Elden Ring DLC were the most major fuckup in recent memory. There's exactly enough to max out your scadu level, so you have to look up guides for all the bullshit hidden ones, like it's carried by this shadow hollow sitting on a ledge and he immediately runs away and disappears if you don't beeline him.
>>
>>730917335
>you can make 40% of the puzzles mild with only 40% needing to be done to finish the game and then 60% gradually harder and harder to appeal to people who want hard ones
No, because at that point you'll have hardcore puzzle players who want hard puzzles who will complain 40% of the puzzles are too easy and that they're forced to do the extra not needed puzzles to find challenging puzzles.
And at the same time, you'll have people who want easy puzzles complain that while you can complete the game doing only the easy 40%, more than half of the game is "gatekept" behind puzzles that are too hard.
So congrats, trying to please all players gave you a game where all players complain about around half of the content of your game.

Lets call hardcore puzzle players who like hard puzzles group A, and lets call the ones who like easy puzzles group B.
Decide which type of puzzle game you want to do, let's say type A, and FUCKING STICK TO IT, pick your target players and make a game for THAT TARGET PLAYERS.
That way, 100% of group A, which is 100% of your target players, will get what they want, and if any of group B complains, you can easily say that your game is specifically targeted to those who want very hard puzzles.
And viceversa, if you make a puzzle game for group B, if group A complains, you can easily say that your game is made to be a chill experience with easy puzzles for peple who like puzzle games but also want a more relaxed experience.

Again, dont try to please everyone at once, all you'll get is half of your players will complain about half of your game, and none will be happy.
>>
>>730917843
Or better yet: ignore people who complain just because they can't finish it because of a skill issue.
>>
>>730917498
Scadutree fragments have heavily diminishing returns so it's not that big of a deal if you missed a few
The last two levels (6 fragments) only get you from 200% to 205% damage
>>
>>730917914
Ignore half of your players? Such a wonderful strategy!
And what about the other half who will sill complain half of the game is too easy?
Ignore them too?
Congrats, you're now ignoring ALL of your players, which will inevitably result in all of them not liking your game, what a wondeful plan!

>>
>>730911987
Avowed adressed all of these:
All pickups are useful. Materials can themselves be upgraded to next tier. Weapons can be broken down to mats. Unique weapons give buffs for specific builds, breaking down the ones you dont need give adra which is required to upgrade unique weapons and armor you use to next tier. Movement is as smooth as Doom Eternal, has own speed and parkour stats to make exploration even faster.

It didn't, but didn't reach mainstream consciousness either. Which I think is attributed to several things:
>New IP in many people's eyes
>Little marketing
>No simple hook for normies
>Forced fungal growth on your character puts off people that like the idea of of roleplay, but not actually roleplaying
>Dry opening like Pillars throwing a bunch of lore at you from the start
>Most NPCs are talking potatoheads with stock animations
>No obvious fetishist or masturbatory companion ready to jump your dick or tease you the moment you meet them

Most of it is surface level problems and it's strengths being feeling good to play. Plus it both looks and runs surprisingly well. They really need to put out a demo.

>>730911987
collectibles and rewards aren't good enough by themselves, the areas must have actual CONTENT that leads to the rewards
there is nothing satisfying about going to a place to grab a chest to leave. where's the boss, where's the puzzle, where's the overall lore contribution of the world, where's the hidden village, where's the anything
>Players complain that the rewards aren't useful for their specific build
>Players complain that there's no reason to go to any specific area
stop making shitty 3rd person games i guess and make jrpgs and games where you actually have a full party to equip and control so gear is 4+x as meaningful and you need a variety of it
also exploring should be fun, if your games movement feels shit then nobody wants to do it, if your games movement feels like pso2 they want to explore.

Open worlds are garbage that shouldn't exist the vast majority of the time. The only ones that work are the ones that go all in on lore and worldbuilding to feel like a living, breathing world with life sim elements, or pure sandboxes for autists to fuck around in. All ubisoft shit and the like is pure cancer. The only one that came close to doing that kind of open world well by pure brute force and some semblance of level design is Elden Ring.

>>
>>730911987
You make open world games rewarding by making the basic movement feel good, fast and responsive. That way, you give players a subtle option between wanting to blitz through areas or take in their environment at their own rhythm, instead of forcing them to do so. Hollow Knight was shit to complete because even with all upgrades the game felt slow. Same for castlevania games
Silksong fixed that. Metroid learned to fix that very early on with the shinespark. In rusted moss you can move as you will as long as you have the skill for it. In prototype it's funny to move from one building to another. Just make the movement not suck. If mario odyssey played 1.5x as fast it would have been the best platformer of all time
>>
>>730916923
Holy shit they made a mod for that? Where can I find it? I didn't know the mod has mods.
>>
>>730911987
I don't give a shit about rewards I want the world to be interesting enough to make me want to explore simply to satisfy my curiosity. If the game can't do that then it has no reason to be open world.
>>
>>730931134
This. If something off in the distance looks cool I'm going to mark it down somewhere and then go explore it. Then I might run into stuff I have to fight and avoid along the way, or even run into something else that I want to explore before I even get to where I was going initially. A cool sword, lore tidbit, or magic ability is just a bonus.
