>>730913719the Combine forces that invaded right after the Resonance Cascade would have been many times larger and more advanced than the Overwatch garrison Gordon fights years afterward, which is basically a skeleton crew given just enough resources and personnel to maintain control over an already conquered Earththe peri-invasion Combine would have probably fucked up all of Earth's military infrastructure pretty much instantly using overwhelming Synth air and land forces which they are probably advanced enough to be able to manufacture and deploy in enormous numbers (Striders and Hunters are implied to have been modified from already conquered species from other planets so the Combine empire is probably pretty old and good at this) while the post-invasion Overwatch frankly seems less mechanised than a real-life first-world military because they're only expected to bully citizens and poorly-armed rebels
