I don’t think any other game nailed dystopia quite like Half-Life 2

It's funny that most of the games that approach its aesthetic are contemporary slavic settings.

A close second. But it's multiplayer Dark RP sort of game.
>>
>>730914930
Shame we didn't get to see more of the dystopian part of the game. You got two chapters and that's it.
>>
>>730914930

What a dumb image. As if the combine is going to build around homes like that.
>>
replaying portal made me realize how much i like dystopian puzzle games with mega-structures

It's funny that every major US metro nowadays looks like Half-Life 2.
>>
>>730916430
Yeah if you're so so fucking retarded you're utterly living in a delusional fantasy world

I loved how PC games around 2004 all emulated what Half Life 1 did where it's about 30 minutes to 1 hour of "Just anormal day on the job... except..." because it created suspense. Doom 3 also has a really cool opening where you just walk around on the Mars station at first and know something is wrong, but can't put a finger on it before hell breaks loose.
>>
>>730916256
What?
That's official concept art and also there are areas near the end of the game that have walls crushing buildings just like that

Post your license to publish that image.
Now.

That's doctor breen. In the event of a foreign takeover of his kind, he chose to enrich himself and speak propaganda as if nothing bad is happening.
>>
>>730914930
how did I not notice until just now that those walls were built right on top of old human buildings?

This game kind of has a similar aethestic but seems to be more like judge dredd
>>
>>730918759
Combine are literally ZOG, does that make gman hitler
>>
>>730914930
Try this one, though admittedly it's a HL2 reskin/mod.

Nastiest environment work i've ever seen, it's really great.
>>
>>730914930
this was pretty fun, starts off as a VERY blatant half-life clone, but turns into a slav-jank shooter with a little bit of horror.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1316680/VLADiK_BRUTAL/
But either pirate it or buy it on a very steep discount, as it's a bit buggy and unfinished.

Nah, Doom 3 was the best tech demo of all time.

hate it or love it, without these, League and competitive FPS' would've never existed as we know it, meaning no e-sports as we know it and no monetization of video games, as we know it.

Not every city but some of them. I went to Kansas City recently. Very City 17 esque
>>
>>730914930
Dogshit game with baby puzzles, unskippable scripts and cutscenes. Painkiller, far cry, postal 2 and even doom 3 mogged fag-life 2 in reality.

haha epic

This is just like living in the United States under Trump!
>>

Yeah that new nvidia back in the day had better use running real games, rather than your quirky exposition dumping r*eddit/d*g movie game. ut99 and return to castle would be booted once your alt+f4'd fag-life 2.

So based.

Can any fag-life 2 homo explain why fag-life 2 on the latest build still requires restarting chapters after the fragile scripting breaks? I thought it was supposed to be fixed after all these years?
>>
>>730922078
Looks more Orwell 1984 with the telescreens. But yeah the polluted atmosphere also really sells it.
>>
>>730922049
The only thing I liked from the beta was the Conscripts. They bridge the gap between metrocops and overwatch soldiers.

Yeah, I like the subtleness of Half-Life 2's dystopia. I still remember when I first played it. I had no clue what it was about. I just thought "wow, what a sterile, but realistically depicted city with weird and ugly alien tech everywhere". I subconsciously hated how stuff like the Combine computers looked so damn weird. The game ended up being fun and graphically amazing, so I just played through it without thinking much.
What I like about it is the subtlety of the dystopian aspects. It's not all grimdark, tryhard bullshit. It's cold and inhuman in an uncaring way. The problem with a lot of video game dystopias is that the bad guys seem emotional, hateful and passionate about hating everything and causing misery. The Combine on the other hand are genuinely soulless and uncaring. I know they employ cops who beat people up with stun batons, but that's just a part of them assimilating human society.

Those houses got telefragged.
>>
>>730916256
Those walls are machines which move and "eat" whatever is in their way. It was probably hundreds of meters away from those buildings when it first arrived and has been slowly spreading outwards until it's devoured the back half, leaving just the facades. The walls aren't built, they are the demolition devices.

Steamies and valvefags a truly an interesting retarded specimen
