Maybe don't wait 10 years before you finally release your second game if you need money so badly?
It's like they heard the current trend is "nobody is making money anymore and all the game studios are laying off their employees" and didn't stop to consider how their situation might be different.
I'll still play it but this rubs me the wrong way.

>On February 2, 2022, a Kickstarter campaign was launched to support development, which raised USD$1,239,584 from 21,439 backers. When including other sources of crowdfunding, the game raised over USD$1,400,000 for the studio.

Why do they need 1.4 million dollars and 4+ years of development and to make a pixel game which could've been made in a few months in the GameBoy era?
>>
I know nothing about game development, but I wonder how this happens.
This looks like a Zelda romhack, they already got kickstarter money plus Hollow Knight money and still fail?
I thought the point of these old-school pixel games is that you don't need huge teams for graphics and advanced technical shit, but can focus on the essentials like gameplay.

Hell, a game like this could be made by a solodev in a year or two's time on ZERO fucking budget. We have games like that popping up all the time.

What a bunch of idiots. The success of Shovel Knight really got to their heads.

I remember Hotline Miami was made in less than a year because the two swedes that made it really liked Drive and wanted to make a video game of it. Unless this game is like 50 hours long I have no idea what could possibly justify such a budget. But I will be fair to them, Shovel Knight did end up really fucking long with all the expansions so maybe it actually will be.

Any passerby in these threads think these are shills? The same or slightly rephrased questions/responses are posted, sometimes regurgitated, within a short time period. It should not be possible to recognize a user's stylometry this easily on an anonymous board, despite a majority of /v/ having a limited vocabulary.

Day old threads have been common this week, but these threads get necroed from page 10's bottom 3 to page 1. Filtering them does nothing because, note, OP didn't include the company/game name in the post, until the filename. Noticed this the past couple of weeks with this specific thread, but brushed it off as the usual in house rambling.

Look at this, this is the Stardew valley creator, he developed his game on a HP pavilion dirt cheap Tri core CPU I dare say the Mackie CR3s are the most expensive thing on that desk.

Did the make any new games since then? Did he do anything no.

I was the same supergiga motivated in the 20s and when I made some good money the motivation went away. I can remote work from Japan(living in Japan is a dream of mine since 4chans /a/ in 2006 I'm a very old fag) or Korea 3 months a year. I can go wherever I want I can buy whatever I want. I try to keep a low profile on the job and I try to be useful enough to be noticed. They know I exist, I do stuff, but my preformance is 30% of what I did in my 20s when my first job was 400$ a month working some remote bullshit for some american company that was scaming me clear as day. But thats how I got to a good wage.

It's all about the person. I know people who work in IT and burned out, gray haired, have depression and so little energy they don't even play video games anymore. Don't interact socially with anyone and are just holled up in their room and I need to ask them 10 times to get them to go out of their room for a drink or some board games or anything really.
On the flip side I know people that work in IT that work a full time IT job as a senior dev, have a github where they contribute to some important open source repository because it's fun, and when they start playing a game like Skyrim or Rimworld or Monhun they right away go and make mods because gosh darn it the game simply isn't playing the way the want it or they have some idea they won't let go.

The reality is very few people acually work the jobs they were designed for to enjoy. Even if they're good at them.

>Silksong is fundamentally DLC for Hollow Knight
you didn't play the game.
Silksong plays like a much different game than Hollow Knight. Same universe, different location, different main character, different NPCs, Hornet plays differently than the knight, etc.
Silksong is a DLC that was turned into its own entire game, going from "Playable Hornet in Hallownest" to "Hornet being kidnapped, taken to another country, and saving it from her ancestors God"
>>
>>730934327
You could say that, but at this point it's been in development longer than most actual sequels. They redid systems, added new mechanics, new world, new enemies, new story, new everything. If it still qualifies as DLC, then Bloodborne is just Dark Souls DLC too.
>>
>>730934668
This isn't rare. And it's because he was a single developer. He had a vision. HM and RF are done by team each with their own idea.
I can bet you my balls that video essayist on Youtube that do 22 hour long videos on why Starcraft or Diablo is good would 100% know how to make banger RTS/ARPG sadly they don't have the money, programing / art skills and so on.
If you watch Red Letter Media these guys would 100% make some ridiculous good movies, but they don't have the finances, they don't have the will power to manage entire production sets and the one movie they made they call it HELL.

Sadly the production side of a movie and the hearding of cats is one thing and knowing how to make a good script and seeing all the flaws objectivey is another.

What do you mean how? Ask company can I remote work, I'll be going to Japan for 3 months. Company says sure no problem but you better keep up your work schedule and you better show up for meetings we ain't adjusting to you.
Thats it.

I got a 3 month Airbnb, so all my housing shit is paid for, water, heat, electricity. No need to make contracts. You get a mobal sim card that has a Japanese number you can now use all the Japanese apps.
I'm from Europe so now you're stuck with one thing. You have free time from 8 am to 4 pm and then from 4 pm to 12 pm, you work. Is it pretty nope, but I get to see Japan when it's not crowded. Weekends are the actual free time and it gets pretty packed as you're competing with all the Japs for trips.
I was in Tokyo so on weekdays I limited myself to Tokyo(a stuff I could get to in about 1 hour or so) and on weekends I went to Yamanshi, Chiba, Saitama, Nagano, Niigata, Nagoya etc...
It doesn't feel very touristy I can tell you that after a month you feel like you're living there and don't have much free time. But it's still beats the shit out of sitting in my room all day in the Balkans.

Or is there anything more specific you wanna know? Remember Ikea, Nitori, Muji, Loft, Daiso, Donki, Tokyu, Seria and all the second hand Bookoff/Hardoff, Mercari, Tresure factory are there. You can get what you need there even if your Airbnb doesn't have it for cheap.

My Airbn didn't have a proper office chair so I jsut got one in Hardoff. Asked the Airbnb owner he was happy.
Another year my bed was dogshit. So I just got a mattress. Another year I wanted a standing desk so I got one.
My apartment was stuffy so I was like maybe this shit is air tight so I got a CO2 meter.

Money solves problems.

They actually have gradually increased the price of the game over years from $15 to the current $40 as they added more content, so it's not like they made zero dollars on the DLC. They just gave it out for free to existing owners.
And that's not counting Dig and Pocket Dungeon which both cost money, and the upcoming remake of Shovel of Hope which will also be a separate purchase.
They really have tried to squeeze as much money as they can out of Shovel Knight without technically adding paid DLC.

You can however if you are confident enough in your Japanese skills get stuff like this. It's short term stay apartments where you need to make contracts with all the utilities and stuff. It ends up being cheaper and usually closer to good things.

https://www.tokyocityapartments.net/ - Student ones
https://tokyo-furnished.com/
https://www.sumyca.com/en
https://www.weave-living.com/tokyo - For the expensive ones
https://www.oakhouse.jp/eng/apartment#letsgomodal - You can live in a share house where you just have a room thats the cheapest never done it.
https://www.sakura-house.com/

Also going in Winter is by far the cheapest. You don't need to pay for heating here in Europe and you get the cheapest accommodation because nobody goes to Japan in winter.

>>730935675
I considered that but they wages are too low. My US/European(I switched jobs) company pays double the salary I'd get in Toyko. And were too low back when I was looking in 2022. Nope you get a normal 3 month visa. And you tell nobody you're working. It's 3 months. You wanna stay longer I guess you could go to Korea and return but I doubt you can do that many times. I you actually want to live in Japan findling a job is best. I never did that I was happy with 3 months per year.

I also own a house here in Europe so I'd have to sell it and all.

I am a by the rules I think of what others will think type of guy. I have the Japanese mentality thats why I like Japan, I hate when people listen to loud music in public etc... I have over 5 years had zero issues. I visited Japan before 4 times before I started remote working from there so I was already familiar with all the trash separation rules, house rules and all of that. Depends on the level of trust. Friends the truth, Stangers, Long Vacation. Places I visited multiple times mix.

>What do you do with the furniture you bought when you leave?
Well looking at the Airbinb listings the owners kept it there and now it's theirs. Like they have the stuff in the images. For example here the Table I bought. Still sitting in the same place I put it.

Japan autsitic about a lot of stuff but they tolerate a lot. Well less recently as more tourist show up. So it shoudn't be a problem if you're not a typical balkan retard. And since you're on /v/ 4chan probably not.
In my country trash is Plastic, Paper, everything else. Very few people actually care about the recycling part. In Japan they're giga autistic about it depending on where you live.

Every day is another type of trash, every block has a trash collection "station"
You have burnable, non burnable, cans, bottles, glass.
Cardboards and Newspapers need to be cut open in sheets and tied with a string. But milk/yogurt packages are seperate on a sperate day.
PET bottles need to be without caps and washed. Cans too need to be washed. Glass too needs to be washed.
Then once a month you have electronics garbage, metal garbage like spray cans or knives or pans, "hazardous" garbage like batteries, neon lights, button batteries and so on.

Once you get used to it's a rouite. Some Airbnbs will simply tell you to leave your garbage somewhere in a bin and they'll collect it. Some will tell you to deal with it. It all depends. This is just one of many quircks for long stays in Japan.

I once broke my luggage(I accidentally stepped on a wheel while waking up and cracked the whole thing) so I had to call in my broken Japanese the trash service to pick it up and had to pay 500 yen for it.

Making this canon is the only way to save this game, but they still won't do it.

If you're doing a good job and not distributing the company I think anyone will be okay with you doing whatever. As long as you do a good job. On time and finished.

My suggestion is go there on vacation, and then in the last week of it simply work from there. See how it feels. If you like it you can come back next year and do full 3 months. Or well technically 89 days.

>Terrible idea if you actually want to get shit done, at least 1 or 2 days per week in the office should be mandatory
Absolutely retarded. If your employees aren't capable of getting shit done location doesn't matter, they won't be productive in the office either. The anti-remote meme is espoused by jealous tradefags and seething NEETs that don't want people to be allowed to stay at home all day like them, except also make money.

Thanks guys. Honestly I don't even want to live there permanently, I don't want to become another immigrant in someone else's country and shit it up. I was fully content with just going there once a year for akiba and comiket.
But the idea of living there for just a couple of months hasn't even occurred to me, though it sounds very appealing, as a nice middle-ground between not wanting to move there but still wanting to check things out without the rush of being on an usual vacation. You've given me a new long term goal to work towards to, so thanks.

This, the anons in this thread are fucking retarded. Shovel Knight was comprised of multiple games, it was a whole series, it didn't sell quite that well.

>I can bet you my balls that video essayist on Youtube that do 22 hour long videos on why Starcraft or Diablo is good would 100% know how to make banger RTS/ARPG sadly they don't have the money, programing / art skills and so on.

Not so sure about that. Yahtzee made this game
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2448930/Starstruck_Vagabond/
Game Maker's Toolkit made this game.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2685900/Mind_Over_Magnet/
Both of them extensively made a career of talking about good game design, but the sales are quite pitiful when you consider the sheer amount of subscribers they have on YouTube.

You're unironic retarded. Just because you can describe that something is good because of X,Y,Z doesn't mean you can yourself make something good. Every time movie critics made their own movies it was complete shit

I know their business practices are dogshit, but Link's Awakening/Oracles games combined with Castlevania is a great concept so I backed it just enough to get a copy.

>omg there is a room with 4 torches and two are not lit and I have this tool that can make fire
>literally multiple instances of this same puzzle in every zelda game to this day
>wind waker had this like 40-50 times over the game
>plays a jingle like you accomplished something when you solved the retard puzzle
>11-12 variants of this garbage make up the puzzles in every game
The best thing while you will cope about this but it's completely factual. Keep playing your retard series made for retards. Pic related.
