I recently played Dispatch and was kinda bummed about how choices barely mattered in the grand scheme of things, just a few variations there and there
Went back to Detroit Become Human and it's crazy how much branching off is going on in that game, and also how many endings and variations there are
Whole sequences and scenes you will not experience because of your choices, the shit you say and do actually matters in that game
Out of all the moviegames based on dialogue like the Cage games or Telltale games or Life is Strange games, I'd say Detroit is still the absolute peak in that genre
Why can't anyone do better?
>>
>>730936918
Quantic Dream makes the best choose your own adventure games. And if you don't fuck up on purpose just to see what happens you're missing out.
>>
Yeah, Detroit is the apex of the cinematic CYOA genre, it's the one actually good Quantic Dream game. And the cringe writing only helps it, to be honest.

I will say that Dispatch benefited immensely from the episodic nature and the actually fun gameplay, though.

>>
>>730936918
Literally the only game of its kind that isn't plagued with the usual illusion of choice
Choices are very real in that game
It helps that Quantic Dream probably got unlimited money from Sony for this, but still, it shows that making a story branch off in all directions depending on your choices or failures is very much possible and isn't an impossible task, so other studios that make those narrative games have no excuse basically
>>

How the fuck is the writing cringe?
>>
>>730938141
Bruh
This isn't "The writing of this video game isn't on the level of top tier literature"
It's "The writing of this game is worse than the average Syfy show from the 00s".
Begging you to consume more media. Any, apparently.
Anyways, like I said, the cringe writing doesn't really detract from the game at all. Ultimately, it just gives a different flavor to the great reactivity the game offers.
>>
>>730936918
The fact that there are so many possible alternative paths unironically makes it the most replayable movie game, because you want to try out everything and see where it leads you
>>
>>730936918
Honestly one of the best high budget VNs on the market. Western studios should do more of this
>>
>>730938428
>zero examples of poor writing
>uhhh consoom more media dood
>uhhh read a book (even though I haven't actually read a book since high school)
You're a subhuman midwit just blindly regurgitating shit and should kill yourself
>>
>>730938665
I have more respect for these movie games because they are genuine movie games, the studios genuinely wanted to make an actual movie where you make the characters say the lines you want and take the decisions you want, you are not getting tricked here
The other kind of movie games is where they make a third person shooter/action game and make you believe it's some kind of thought provoking experience, it's disingenuous
>>
>>730938428
You could say that none of it was truly insightful nor groundbreaking; however, it most certainly was not cringe.
>>

>The Deviants... The Deviants are singing...
>Tell them to stand down
>It looks like... Yes! The military is withdrawing!
>At dawn today, November 11th 2038, thousands of androids invaded the city of Detroit. According to our sources, they originated from CyberLife warehouses believed to have been infiltrated by deviants. I know that public opinion has been moved by the deviants' cause. Perhaps the time has come for us to consider the possibility that androids are a new form of intelligent life. One thing is certain: The events in Detroit have changed the world forever.
>You did it, Markus!
>We did it. This is a great day for our people. Humans will have no choice now. They'll have to listen to us now. We are alive. And now... WE ARE FREE!

To the back of the bus with you tards. Can't say anything good about a game or you always spawn uncritical retards that must pretend everything about it is 10/10.

I've read some CYOA "games" written by women. That is cringe. Compared to them, Detroit is high literature.

Only a fair comparison if you exclusively compare dialogue. And Cage's dialogue is indeed on the exact same level as the shit you mentioned.

It's funny how even in a genre that should be focused around "story", the best game in that genre is also the one that pushes actual interactivity and doing things that actually change that story
I don't even care about the storyline in itself in that game, I just like having actual choices

You've got to be a coprophiliac to find it as anything but domineering wanking. It's cringe preciously because how seriously it takes this blatant jew alluding misery porn. Actually scratch that, modern Jew misery porn actually still has class that goes beyond just Gestapo lining everyone against the wall while the sad violin plays. Like Zone of Interest or Son of Saul.
>>
It's hard to imagine this game without the woke shit, since it was replete with it, but hypothetically such a game would be very popular on /v/. Moreso than Dispatch.
>>
>>730940615
I love both games and no. Only way Detroit could possibly become popular on /v/ was if it had some severe waifubaiting added in and it became more about which character your android literal you dates. It could keep all the wokeness, too.
>>
>>730936918
Until dawn is the better movie game
>>
>>730940690
>going to a synthetics rights march with your sexy brown gynoid girlfriend
Come to think of it, yeah that's probably true
>>
>>730940615
Detroit has always been hugely popular, not only here, because it's simply the gold standard of the interactive movie genre
Not only does it have impeccable production value, but like other anons said, the story evolves with your choices, rather than the story beats remaining the same with only a few minor changes there and there
The very fact that you can deliberately choose to make any of the 3 "playable" characters die, with the story adapting to it and just continuing casually is kind of unprecedented
>>
>>730939813
The writing is a bit better than heavy rain. The """gameplay""" is 1000x better though. I tried to replay heavy rain recently, and just walking around is so ass. You move so slow, and the controls are so ass. The way the camera flips from one view to another so now you're walking the wrong direction. Detroit is much less annoying to play.
>>
>>730940910
My only complaint is that even if I play Markus as evil as possible, Connor going against him is still more or less treated the same way
>>
Is Detroit worth playing?
I liked Heavy Rain, mostly because of how unintentionally bad it was, with the shitty voice acting and how serious it represented it's story and setting, while being full of jank and nonsensical dialogue, though I liked it in a way as how you could fuck up the QTE and the game actually reacted to it (major pov characters dying in the middle of the story).
Beyond Two Souls was just pure railroaded garbage with bad self important writing and pathetic "gameplay". Killed all my interest in David Cage games.

>>
>>730941329
>though I liked it in a way as how you could fuck up the QTE and the game actually reacted to it
Detroit is literally this, on war steroids, so you will love it
You have a lot of control over how the story plays out, whether it's choosing, doing, or failing something
>>
>>730941240
Yeah, I wanted to do a run where Connor was growing empathetic but had to put aside those feelings because Markus had made the movement too extreme and violent but it just doesn't work too well

This is the only thing David cage helped with that wasn't complete shit and im confident its because they either didn't listen to him or straight up said no to 85% of his ideas. The cringe writing i dont even give him credit for because thats pretty standard for Twitter hires. Would have happened either way.

They genuinely had decent programmers and designers running the show to pull off a story that changes that much, despite my hate for movie games.

Toward the end it gets a little weird in the dialogue, like certain reveals were moved around, like
>Luther asks Kara if she's noticed anything weird about alice
>Kara says no
>Kara takes Alice to Rose
>rose says she has a fever and is sick, something robots don't do
>Kara takes Alice to bed and Alice asks "why do they hate us" as if Kara knows she's a robot, Kara even responds as if Alice is a robot
>later in jericho it's revealed that Alice is a robot and Kara is stunned

Yeah if you fuck up the story iirc everyone dies. The girl has a pretty long story and she just dies instantly in like the 2nd scene and you just play the rest of the game as conner where you die maybe 5 times and litterally drive mr. Krabs insane. he kills you only for you to come back then I think he kills himself and its just you shutting down the threat at the end, then the company terminates conner and the corporation wins.
Its great.

No, he didn't. The theme is way too hyperbolized and caricatured in how it's presented to be echoing current AI talking shitpoints. He isn't portraying chatgtp existentialism. These mf made identical humans for 800 dollars apiece, where, at a glance, the only thing separating them from living beings is an LED on the side of their heads. We are not there. And we will not be there in many decades, if ever. I'm not even going to pretend that this will ever be commercially available clanker slavery.

the dispatching minigame was kinda fun, but it becomes pointless the moment you understand it only has consequences for one fucking character, the invisible slut
like yeah i'd like to fuck a bitch like that in real life, but the whole game revolves around her, and you don't even get a cool sex scene aside from the wet dream
the game is very clearly rushed and lacked at least 8 other episodes to properly flesh out all characters
