Meryl feels like a real non-character in mgs4, she basically has no presence in the game and is only there because it's fan service to bring her back. by the way, did you know that she is canonically underage in mgs1?
Speaking of injections, Snake went full fucking retard letting some random guy he met 5 minutes before inject him with a cocktail of who-knows-what after what happened with Naomi. He got lucky that it canceled out the old FOXDIE.

She's hard boiled, has a few men issues (Campbell, Snake) which she gets over relatively fast (and it's nice) but there's no room for huge emotional moments. And of course she's meant to represent the "new soldier", she's the perfect System Pawn. I think it's fine personally.
