2007 game

2020+ game
>thanks to lumen or raytracing we don't have bake our lighting at all!

>who cares if this tanks performance, get better hardware, think of the poor developers who would otherwise have to work so much more!
>300+ developers in the main studio
>2000+ developers in supporting studios
>countless outsourcing
>credits take entire hour to go through
>6 years+ in development, takes another 2-3 years to go through "redemption arc" to fix and partially bring promised stuff

Seriously, what went wrong with video game development?
Call of Duty 4 these days would be considered an indie game, going by the dev team size.

Want good games again move to a 4gb vram gpu and force the industry to hire white people.

In 2007 you still had trash games with trash optimization, they just weren't the AAA. What really changed is that corpos ate multiple devs so that all big studios in the industry are doing what shitty execs want and shitty execs want a smash hit every year and polishing game for years is a no-go for them.
Blizzard games spent years in the over and were smash hits with huge returns, so were Rockstar titles. Execs don't understand the concept of gamedev, they think if the game can be finished and DLCs and MTX can be implemented the game is ready to hit the market (it does not).
The tl;dr is greed and the end stage capitalism favoring psychopath thought process. Don't care for others, just squeeze out others for maximum gain.
