I bought one of these Smash Gamecube controllers about six years ago and something occurred to me as I picked up Smash again. The left thumbstick is stiffer than it should be that I remember from my youth. I tried playing in Smash with it and compared my movement to a regular Pro Controller, and with the Pro Controller I had way better control over my character and could just play with speed and tenacity.

Are these Gamecube controllers a meme? Do I have one of the bad batch?

What Gamecube controllers do Melee guys use?
>>
Stiff as in springy? If that's the case it should get better with use, sometimes they overtune the stick spring

It feels like it's just stiff like it takes too much effort to press the thumbstick. It takes too much pressure from the thumb quickly tiring out my thumbs and stuff. I think it's just a meme. I played with the Pro Controller and every input on the left stick was superior. I felt way more in control of my character and could actually do what I wanted to do when I said to do it.

Lmao

I don't know for sure, but my OG Gamecube controllers have loose as hell sticks from wear and tear, so I prefer my Smash Controllers.

Gonna suck when those give out since it seems Nintendo is only making the wireless Switch 2 GC controllers now
>>
Do these things use the exact same parts as the original gamecube controllers? it's possible they're just built differently.

the smash 4 and smash ult ones are pretty bad yes. Most people like the 2008 JP white ones with the really long cords, or the original gamecube era ones

these ones, with the 3m cord and no logo in the middle that they initially released in 2008 was the best OEM I've used

I still have a white brawl era one in box because I bought two when I got into melee 14 years ago
Should I use it or save it? My main white one is giving me fucked up c stick inputs unless I'm really deliberate which is annoying

I dunno how scarce OEMs are gonna be in the future but it does kinda seem bleak, don't you think? I'd probably use it if inputs aren't working on the one you're using now because that sounds way too annoying, but maybe also buy another one to stock up as well in case they become harder to find. Who knows though, lots of uncertainty

Where can you even get a new in box official controller
I think that's already rare
>>

I dunno dude, I'm still using controllers I bought a million years ago

I have this piece of shit Smash Gamecube controller and I even kept the box from six years ago, but it's a piece of garbage because it doesn't feel as good as a Pro Controller.

The Gamecube controller that was newly made has a really stiff left stick and un-clicky buttons that make the entire experience awful.

I could send it to you, but I would recommend playing every game with new technology.
