Anyone still running Steam Deck LCD in 2026? Picrel is still going strong after four years of pure portable ludo.
>>731008637It's the only thing keeping me invested in gaming at this point. If it was just a bit more seamless with controller and dock connectivity, the Deck would be a near perfect delivery of what the Switch was supposed to be. It does everything I want it to do, and I've been surprised several times when things that seem like they would be challenging are actually "it just werks" tier.
Still use mine. Playing Time Stranger on mine and it runs pretty well. I also use it as an emulation device. I just don't feel the need to upgrade to an OLED. I haveheard that the other handhelds require a bit more tinkering to get shit running well.
>>731008869It's the fact that you can pick it up at a drop of a hat thanks to the god-tier sleep mode. On my Windows PC, games would freak out if I put PC to sleep. Meanwhile I can leave my Deck on my bed halfway through a game and then pick it up after coming home from university. If it was a little lighter it would be perfect.
>>731008637It's the most powerful device I have, and likely will stay that way forever now thanks to AI ruining everyone's life
>>731008637Not as much as previous years but yeah
LCD is better than OLED because it doesn't get burn ins
>>731010096>LCD is better than OLED because it doesn't get burn ins
>>731010151frogslop avatar, get banned and murdered
>>731008637Yep, gonna install retroarch on it later. Just wish it was a bit smaller and lighter. The left touchpad is so useful as a touch menu, wish I started doing that sooner.
>>731008637Just upgraded my 64gb with a cheap second hand SSD. Almost stripped half the screws getting in but now it's usable again. 64gb was not enough to handle the compatdata folders and the thing ran out of space one time and locked itself into a boot loop.
>>731010542Might as well go with emudeck to set up retroarch, assuming you weren't already. The presets are helpful for anything that isn't N64 emulation (where you'll need to tweak things to meet your visual/performance preferences on a per game basis).
>>731010242newfag
>>731010542>>731011235And get the power tools plugin for capping the number of cores to 4. It can make a world of difference for emulation.
>>731008637I play mine daily. Just finished Tales of Graces F a few days ago. Working through FFXII now.
>>731011501>limit cores to 4Can you tell me in what case would you do this? Is it a power saving measure or is it a niche scenario where games run better?
>>731008637yeprecently finished elden ring and sekirocurrently playing nightreign daily. lowest settings, but it's good enoughmy old gaming pc died and I'm not getting a new one now. I might get a steam machineI'm getting old and the desire to play the latest and greatest games is long gone, though
>>731010096enjoy your shiny grey colored shadows instead of turning those pixels off, lol what a retard
>>731008637I bought the LCD on the black Friday sale since it was pretty cheap and I've been very satisfied so far. having a good chunk of my PC games/emulation to choose from in a handheld is awesome and some the functions are nice(sleep mode touch pads, desktop mode etc). Somewhat pissed I didn't buy one sooner.
>>731012562I've used it to remove stuttering from N64 games that had performance issues, and I've heard that it is useful for GameCube emulation for similar reasons. The option to reduce cores (to 4) is just another useful tool to try if an emulated game is giving you issues. I wouldn't recommend using it as a default setting, especially outside of emulation. You would get worse performance outside of niche use cases.
>>731014321I see. Thanks.
>get lcd eck used>chink cheapo charger causes power surge>assurion gives me a $300 check because they couldn’t fix/repair itShould I get a rog ally?
>>731010096>No Burn in but slightly more battery drainVs>Burn in but slightly better battery lifeYeah, I'd rather not have burn in.
>>731008637I'm waiting on Deck 2
>>731008869Yes, still have my LCD deck. Wish I had waited for the LED one, but at this point I will wait until my LCD one dies or the LED ones go on a big sale.it also keeps my gf busy so i can play on my pc in peace
>>731012562It's not capping cores to 4 that helps, it's disabling SMT.And in any case, it's actually probably a better idea to use taskset to pin it to physical cores than disable the sibling cores.
>>731008637Holy shit, it really was released almost 4 years ago. I thought it was something like 2 years.I still use mine almost daily in the evening to play something getting comfy in bed.
>>731015264>it's disabling SMTI'm a retard. I should have said this, but my mind was stuck on the core setting going to 4 when disabling SMT.>And in any case, it's actually probably a better idea to use taskset to pin it to physical cores than disable the sibling cores.I'll look into this, though I think it might be less convenient for my current setup. What's the benefit (aside from not needing an additional plugin)?
>>731011235Nah fuck emudeckGet steam retroarchThen find the core files from the nightly buildbot and jam those into steam retroarchNow you have cloud saves on your retro games
>>731015576If steam, the OS or you via SSH/decky/whatever do anything in the background, it gets put on the sibling cores instead of stealing scheduling time from the physical cores. And it's not super hard, just chuck>taskset -c 0,2,4,6 -- %command%Into the launch options field under properties. Cores 01, 23, 45, 67 are SMT siblings.
>>731008637I do, still using it everyday.BUT! I also tend to use it docked, with a separated monitor and m&kb.
>>731008637imagine unironically being in the subway and pulling this gigantic autism emblem
I just had to replace the joysticks after they gave out playing WoW, but it's like new again! Battery life is down to lik 67% but whatever!
>>731008637Hell yeah I am. Got my LCD shitbrick
>>731008637used to but I got the OLED and I couldn't be happier. I don't need a steam deck 2 when this one runs the games I care about
>>731016319>imagine unironically being in the subwayI can't
>>731016319okay jared, whatever you say
>>731010096Doubt there is much burn in issue, but the LCD version does have a better audio out with with no interference.
>>731008637id never play an fps with a gamepad
Anyone got any /comfy/ games I can play on my Deck? I already play Animal Crossing GCN Deluxe (EmuDeck), Stardew Valley, Story of Seasons, used to play Disney Dreamlight Valley, Fantasy Life i, Shiro & the Coal Town, Skyrim, and Hogwarts Legacy.Just looking for more comfy games to play, preferably similar to the ones I listed. So basically life/farming sims, RPGs, or a mix of both. As long as they comfy.Speaking of, any reason why Skyrim is no longer verified? I used to play it a lot on there.
>>731016576ok hillbilly
>>731017081Public transport is for poor people
>>731016319>subwayYou don't pull out the Steam Brick unless you're sure it won't get stolen.>>731017025It's Halo, aim assist plays the game for you.>>731017034Minecraft Java should work on Linux, no? Try that maybe.
>>731017034Alien isolation
Redpill me on Legion Go S.Runs SteamOS out of the box just like the Deck.Has higher resolution, screen size, refresh rate, vrr but lacks OLED.About the same price as the deck.Should I go for this instead? The Deck seems a bit old now.
>>731017034>any reason why Skyrim is no longer verifiedProbably something to do with keyboard jank or text size, if I had to guess.>Anyone got any /comfy/ games I can play on my Deck?Fallout 4 is probably up your alley if you mess around with settlements; just don't fall into the Anniversary Edition traps (Creation Club bundle and paid Creations). Balatro isn't really similar to the games you've listed, but it's accessible, great on handheld, and features a lofi aesthetic.
>>731017910Java minecraft has no proper controller support without mods last I checked.
>>731017081I only take the subway ironically.

>>731017034Luna's Fishing GardenSpiritfarer
>>731010096This. I leave the steam deck on overnight sometimes to download all those stupid updates clogging up the download queue. That would burn in the screen really fast. I wish there was a download all button or just stop updating if there's nothing to update.
What system can it handle emulation wise?
>>731017034Recettear, Rune Factory, Sakuna, Gurumin and Evenicle :)
>>731019395I played through dragon quest Builders on rpcs3 so I'd say about ps3. Allegedly people played Bloodborne on it but idk
>>731019776>>731019395Yeah this looks alrighthttps://youtu.be/bBhfr1Qq9EQ?si=SkJRgMQ7yB40bjck
>>731018924Valve already released an update that fixes this problem in the beta update channel. Just press the off button, then click the prompt where it says "download in the background" and then the screen will turn off but it'll still download.
>>731010096You can adjust the screen settings to make it comparable to an OLED Deck, just look it up there are tutorials.
>>731019914For me it's just barely boosting color saturation. Idk if Vibrant deck still works but boosting colors to 1.05 is perfection in most games. Not sure why I need portable games to have increased saturation, maybe it's the smaller picture, but I quite like it
>>731008637I had to replace the thumb sticks with hall effect ones a year ago. I bought the Deck in 2022...But yeah I finally beat Majora's Mask after never finishing the 3DS version and half starting the N64 one, thanks to the recomp and the Deck. It's a pretty beast of a hand held. I wish it had more battery life but I get about the same amount of playtime on mine as my 3DS sooooo, it alright.
