>physical ownership is going extinct and when it does consoles will be at complete mercy of their corporate owners since users are not even be able to access their own files to pirate shit
>valve is making steamos extremely retard friendly and is replicating console environments with big picture mode
What the fuck is the console domain even going to be? They're going to lose literally everything that gives them appeal
>>
>>731013873
how exactly will consoles die when buying a pc will become unaffordable you tard, low hardware consoles will literally be the last one standing.
>>
>>731013873
>What the fuck is the console domain even going to be?
Being something that people can actually afford.
>inb4 the shortages affect consoles too
They'll just use specialised chips.
>>
>>731013873
consoles will be something for millennials and early zoomers, everyone younger than that will be on mobile and pc.
>>
>>731013873
Why? Steam and windows is shit. Just because Xbox and Playstation died doesn't mean Nintendo exclusives are going anywhere.
>>
>>731013957
>>731013962
if pcs will become unaffordable then by that extent consoles, which are made from the same fucking silicon and use those same parts, will also become unaffordable
or do you think they're going to be putting themselves in debt hoping they get to reclaim the console cost's worth of profit per customer?
>>
>>731014039
windows is also dying
and what's wrong with steam? when everything goes digital then nothing can compete

answer the question
if the hardware is unaffordable then why would they choose to sell it at a massive loss hoping they can reclaim that cost down the line?
>>
>>731014186
>when everything goes digital then nothing can compete
Why? Piracy exists.
>>
>>731014329
piracy can't exist without that game being offered somewhere on the platform to begin with
is steam basically making it a legitimate option with its deliberately weak drm not a good thing?
>>
>>731014392
>is steam basically making it a legitimate option with its deliberately weak drm not a good thing?
Valve is just ripping retards off. Only a retard would buy games on PC when piracy exists. So again, why would it be a good thing? Valve has only done: helped introduced live service slop, MTX, gambling for kids, you own nothing to gaming. And you retards are shilling for that. So you're either retards or paid shills, pick one.
>>
>>731014476
because without steam you wouldn't have those games to begin with? parasites aren't supposed to kill their host you retard
>>
>>731014329
>>731014476
What happens if nobody buys the games you pirate?
>>
>>731014392
???????? What are you trying to say? What the fuck does digital have to do with a game being on what platform?

Are you confusing cloud shit with normal digital sales?
>>
>>731014689
if a game wasn't on steam then it would be on a worse platform with way more aggressive antipiracy checks or it wouldn't be on pc at all
think retard
>>
>>731013873
>What the fuck is the console domain even going to be?

Store front apps you can install on your smart TV. Every game streamed. No physical ownership.
>>
I'm happy to pay a subscription.
Games companies do a hard job and we should be forgiving and fund them more.
>>
>>731013873
forget consoles, AI is going to kill us all by then

as in, all humans will be dead, because AI will have killed them all
>>
>>731014751
>way more aggressive antipiracy checks
Like always online and Denuvo? Like what a lot of games on Steam already have? Are you trying to say that if it wasn't for steam everyone would somehow still use plastic discs?
>>
>>731014090
They sure can do exactly that. Consoles have the advantage of being monolithic and monopolized hardware so it's easy to set the prices to an affordable level. PC hardware is no threat to them, but phones could be.
>>
>>731014879
like the fact that steam's anti piracy is a single sub 1mb file that you can replace in 10 seconds
do you think that anyone else that isn't valve would let this shit slide if they had market dominance like this?
>>
>>731014928
they can make the cost affordable for you, sure
but expecting an average console user to repay it to make up the difference is fucking retarded and not actually financially solvent if you're calling pc hardware unaffordable in that scenario
>>
>>731014314
consoles are less expensive than pcs for the same hardware and get more out of that hardware on top of it and usually use cheaper/less powerful hardware than gaming PCs, which part about these facts do you not understand?
>>
>>731015165
see >>731015137
if a pc is unaffordable then so is the amount required for a console corpo to break even
>>
>>731015035
Why would they pay for DRM when you can get publishers to do it for you?
>>
>>731014928
Only for as long as the current contracts run. The moment they need to renegotiate them you can bet your ass Nvidia and co will pull out all stops and demand as much as they currently get trough "AI" crap from Sony and Bingtendo.
>>
>flagrant /v/alve fanboy thread and PC platform warring
PC Vegan therapy thread. Sucks to be you and your overpriced hobby.
>>
>>731015234
consoles use less powerful hardware than gaming PC and they get more out of that hardware than gaming PCs and they buy said hardware in bulk for prices you could never get.
PCs getting more expensive and consoles as well but consoles way less so hence why console gaming will be the last men standing if PC gaming becomse not affordable what do you not understand exactly?
>>
Source: Newzoo

This is doctored to skew in favor of dogshit digital companies
>>
>>731015351
but never as expensive as you costumer buying the same hardware for a gaming pc.. again what is confusing for you about this fact?
>>
>>731015323
why would that scenario be any better than what we currently have?
if anything denuvo is slowly killing itself through greed
>>
>>731015409
>consoles use less powerful hardware than gaming PC and they get more out of that hardware than gaming PCs
then pcs could be using that less powerful hardware
and no, console optimisation is no longer a thing
and if we're talking about buying in bulk then you have valve setting the standard here, console like pcs
there's no fucking universe where you can apply a double standard to console hardware, they're not running charities for your benefit, that hardware has a price and you're going to repay it with dividends
>>
>>731015493
>it'll cost more than anyone willing to shell out but not as much as the other crap
Nigga, you stupid?
>>
>>731015498
>better than what we currently have
But that is the fucking system we currently have. How fucking retarded are you? a -100 on a scale from 1-5?
>>
>>731015351
Console companies have more purchasing power that's also centralized so they can get better deals while the PC market is scattered. And it's less of an issue if they sell these at a loss as long as they maintain market coverage and keep selling games.
>>
>>731015726
no, current system is everything defaulting to steam's featherweight drm and some getting denuvo that's actively killing itself
any alternative would involve steam's drm being replaced by something heavy and constantly evolving
>>
>>731015712
>hi guys i am a retard! look i prove it i think consoles are more expensive than PCs! look i am retarded!

ok retard now fuck off
>>
consoles are always cheaper than gaming pcs for the same hardware (and consoles get more peformance out of that same hardware on top of it and they get better deals on that hardware)

so anyone who thinks consoles are going to die before gaming PCs because hardware accross the board is getting more expensive is retarded it really is that simple.
>>
>>731015871
I take it back. You are clearly a -1000. The most mentally retarded nigger in existence looks upon you with pity for just how fucking god damn retarded you are. Jesus fucking christ.
>>
>>731016214
>cost to play online on pc: $0
>cost to play online on a console: $60 a year, every single year, forever
>>
>>731016214
>consoles are always cheaper than gaming pcs for the same hardware
not by much, pic related beats ps5 pro
before prices went to shit you could price match it
this is the worst case scenario since console prices still haven't had time to catch up and that markup is still worth it over the console
>and consoles get more peformance out of that same hardware on top of it
no, they don't
console optimisation is fucking dead and i'll prove it shortly
>and they get better deals on that hardware
think about the ramifications of the steam machine for a second
again, console manufacturers aren't running charities, they'll get that money back
>>
>>731016676
here's one, mgs delta
ps5 pro is running as low as 756p on lower settings than pc maximum settings to reach 60 fpsand its closest counterpart, the 9060xt is doing 50 fps at max
no difference

no difference either
>>
>>731016613
explain what's wrong with anything i said then
you're delusional if you think anyone put in valve's position would be anywhere near as piracy friendly as valve
they're holding the doors open for you and you still cry about it

I don't understand piratefags who think that everyone should pirate games. Do they not understand that everything they pirate is subsidized by buyfags?

steam isn't useless because it's on pc where you control every minute aspect of what's running on it
with console you give up everything
>>
>>731014218
PC Vegans are retarded for picking fights with Nintendo. I don't remember Nintendo naming any of their consoles PlayStation because it's not a PC WorkStation while being made to replace PC altogether or try to turn PC into a locked-down Xbox. PC Vegans should be going after Sony and Microsoft.
>>
>>731017979
What the fuck are you even talking about, you retard?
>>
>>731017210
I agree that it's stupid, but theres no subsidization.
If piracy suddenly stopped existing, prices wouldn't go down.
Sales also wouldn't necessarily go up either because customers would be even more anal about what they actually buy.
A pirated game is not a lost sale, because they were never going to buy your game in 95% of circumstances.
Demos existed to let people try games before they purchased them, then corporate greed decided that allowing customers to actually have informed choices was bad for sales, which it is. And now demos are making a resurgence because people are pirating games to try them out which is the only logical choice people had.
Piracy is still a service problem, thanks gabe.
>>
>>731018081
Calm down PCVegan. Go make a thread bragging about piracy to meet your daily /v/ /g/ true PC gamer posting quota.
>>
>>731018081
Thanks for proving my point retard. Nintendo vs PC is stupid. PC vs PlayStation and Xbox is right. Maybe if your ass wasn't in diapers during the 5th and 6th gens, you would understand what I meant by this.

my pc has 64 RDNA4 CUs

>>
>>731021853
No, it isn't a known quantity. It hasn't even been announced by Sony.

>moores law is dead
holy shit you're a bellend
>>
>>731022301
what can i say except cope
it'll be fake until it's not
the ps5's die size was 308mm^2, the ps5 pro's was 279mm^2
it lines up, no point in trying to deny it
>>
>>731022594
Deny what? a bunch of numbers with nothing to show for it. I can do a spec sheet in MS Paint too , will that be enough evidence for you?
>>
>>731022846
they're logically consistent for anyone that understands anything about semiconductors and nodes
you're not getting a bigger die than 300mm^2 and you're not squeezing more than 50 something CUs into that space
>>
>>731022941
I don't care what the numbers say. I'm saying moores law is dead isn't a reliable source.
If a PS6 is those specs then nobody will be buying a PC to game on. It'll be game over for it.
>>
>>731023075
yeah, you're too stupid to understand the subject matter and all you can do is attack the source
the numbers are consistent, you're not getting anything better
if ps6 is those specs then an udna gpu will destroy it
also physical is dying so enjoy not owning anything whatsoever since you can't even back your games up or pirate
>>
>>731023245
I was correct. You really are a huge bellend.
>>
>>731023287
no, you're just in denial
your platform will not only be technologically mediocre but you'll also be humiliated out of being able to own anything about it
barely a cut above streaming your games
>>
>>731021831
This but unironically. MTX becoming acceptable must be one of the biggest successes against piracy because you can't pirate premium goodies and apparently downloading a jpeg is just too difficult for a gachafag.
>>
>>731013957
>how exactly will consoles die when buying a pc will become unaffordable
The Stadia was ahead of its time. Streaming shitboxes like that are going to be the future for both gaming and production for the majority of consoomers.
>>
>>731013957
Not OP, but consoles (PlayStation) and high-end PCs (which now includes the Xbox) will die, Nintendo consoles and Steam PC hardware are the future, cloud will fail and flop again.
>>
>>731014264
Never let facts get in the way of the narrative you formulated before looking at the facts.
>>
>>731013873
>people already pay a monthly subscription to play online
>the devices are already online only
>they make you sign in with an online account
>they don't let you create an offline local profile like the 360/PS3
>no one buys discs anymore
>people are already comfortable paying for PS+ or Gamepass and just playing the "free" games on there
Really the last bridge to cross is not running the game locally, but on a server.
Consoles are going to be Roku boxes for video games in the future. That's basically what consoles have been since the 360/Wii/PS3 got a Netflix app and introduced buying digital games. The writing has been on the wall for a while.
>>
>>731024635
Anon, PlayStations and Xboxes won't exist in the future and normalfags will leave gaming. Give it up, it's over. PlayStation and Xbox are no longer cool, and no one wants them. Sony is too scared to call their console a children's toy, Microsoft feels they need to baby you on using the Xbox as a PC. If you had a brain, you would just go the Nintendo + Steam Hardware route and get affordable gaming hardware to play games natively on.
>>
>>731014314
Because that's literally what was done in the past.
>>
>>731025423
no, if anything in the past there were no subs so the hardware was more expensive compared to their pc counterparts
they have to raise prices unless they're expecting an unreasonable amount of loyalty to afford selling at a bigger loss in an age of negative sentiment
>>
>>731025303
Did you even read my post? The future of "consoles" will just be Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo branded Roku box hardware that you stream games from, or an app that you download on your smart TV. I've been out of the console game since 7th gen ended for the reasons stated.

Nintendo isn't a part of the PlayStation/Xbox cabal. Sony and Microsoft don't have a future in gaming. The future is weak ass hardware.
>>
>>731027091
I view them as pretty much in the same boat. They might hold out one or two generations longer with dedicated hardware but they caught Sony and Microsoft's online only/game streaming/digital only AIDs in the last years of the Switch 1. Valve is putting out the Gabecube and the 'eck as their answer to Geforce Now.
>>
>>731027981
There won't be a Switch 3, Moore's Law died years ago. After Valve upgrades the Steam Deck to 2.0, there won't be a 3.0 upgrade. Valve will let OEM partners make stronger Steam Deck's after the Deck 2.0.
