I used to love them as a teen. Now I'm 25, been like a decade since I last played one, decided to pick up pic related for the first time and I'm finding it incredibly boring. But the thing is, I don't even think it's this game in particular, but the type of game. I'm 100% sure that if I were to play a CoD campaign, Half Life or Bioshock again, I'd feel the same.
>>
There hasn't been a scripted single player fps in like 15 years. It's probably the last thing teens play.
>>
Halo pre-343 is a fun turn-your-brain-off kinda game
otherwise it's pretty shallow unless you're one of those lore autists
>>
>>731014391
Idk. I can't remember the last fps with a linear campaign I played. Do they even make them anymore? I enjoyed titanfall 2 a lot but that was years ago at this point. I wasn't a teenager though.
>>
>>731014391
Apparently titan fall 2 is awesome, try that. A priori it's a teeny genre, sure.
>>
>>731014552
Wait a minute, aren't there solo campaigns for all the war fps?
>>
>>731014552
I meant teens as an age not a generation. The post was more of a "these types of games aren't that fun as an adult". As a teen I remember unironically being like "yoooo bioshock is so frickin epic! CoD's 4 campaign is so frickin epic! I love going in a straight line killing baddies in first person while an obj is permanently shown in a corner!". Now they aren't as exciting. For reference, I played Postal 2 and the old Hitman games for the first time last year and had a blast.
>>
>>731014918
I'm in my 30's and wish they still made those games.

the trve tf2
>>

Just played the trilogy for the first time this year myself. If you can stomach it, try to get to the chapter in the swamp. I think that's when the game clicked for me.
Halo might have cutscenes but the fights are unscripted. I feel like no playthrough is really the same. Sometimes all your marine buddies die, other time you clean house without struggle. Sometimes you get flanked by a single Elite, other times they all group up and you can land a perfect grenade throw to wipe them all out.
Halo 2 was much better on the first playthrough. It held my interest the entire time.
Halo 3 felt too linear for anything interesting to happen. Not interested in the 343i games since those look even more scripted and linear.

Connoisseur's tf2. I must say it's a good game alright. Cool designs, which is rare in the setting.
>>
Humans are Forerunners.

You'd probably like Infinite's campaign actually. 4 and 5 are scripted and linear, but Infinite, due to its open nature, let's you do things like approach mission areas from different sides, bring in weapons and vehicles of your choosing, and the grapple hook gives a ton of verticality and mobility.

There are some more linear sections, but they're "wide" in that there are more options and things in the "hallway"
>>
>>731014391
Halo CE is barely a game if you strip it of it's scripted moments, that why the last 2 acts are so fucking boring
>>
>>731014712
They technically do exist, but they’re more of an afterthought these days. Most devs toss in a campaign to tick a box or sell a deluxe edition. It ain't like the mid-2000s when campaigns were the centerpiece. Now it's live-service crap, battle passes, or some 400-hour open world RPG-fps hybrid. Games like CoD still have campaigns, but they’re like 4 hours long and structured like a movie set. Not that it’s bad per se, just different.

>try to get to the chapter in the swamp
I may be already? Idk, I'm a bit forward the part where Cortana tells you to go stop your captain o algo. It kinda looks like a swamp, with bridges that are just fallen trees n shiet
>>
>>731018672
Yeah. Continue playing.

Funnily, I think it's the opposite. Lobby based shooters are more for children then actual planned out campaigns and this has only become more true with the advent of battle royales.
I'm fine playing through a FPS campaign solo or with a few friends and I find that far more engaging than joining a multiplayer lobby with literal children screaming.
>>
>>731019705
"Scripted fps" doesn't mean just any singleplayer fps you actual child
>>
>>731019795
Name twenty unscripted singleplayer fps'
>>
The Bungie Halo games aren't particularly scripted, though?

They're relatively sandbox and physics driven though Halo 2 has a decent amount of scripted setpieces
>>
>>731020965
kinda dishonest, do you call every game with a jump button a platformer?
>>
>>731014391
It depends on the game, I think. Halo CE is a bit outdated imo but I still have fun with 2 and 3.
>CoD
I replay the WaW and BO1 campaigns every year and never get bored but that’s mainly because I like the atmosphere and guns. So personal preference is a factor too, of course.

My Brother In Christ... VIDEO GAMES are a TEENAGER HOBBY
>>
>>731014391
It's for underdeveloped children, like the Xbox and PlayStation.
>>
halo doesn't really have any scripted sequences outside of PoA and The Maw
it's why it's so fucking boring and you see ALMOST everything the game has to offer in the first hour
>>
>>731014391
My dad and uncles played these games when they were in their late 20s and early to mid 30s. I would know
I was there watching them
>incredibly boring
Fucking play it on heroic or legendary, doofus. “Normal” difficulty was meant for your 7 year old if he wanted a turn.
>>
>>731024097
But thats not my fault. It's a fair assumption that a game is balanced around normal difficulty, and that said difficulty is the intended experience.
It's like how in fucking thief for some reason they cut 40% of the game if you dont pick expert. So dumb
>>
>>731024296
t b h Halo’s difficulty selector outright tells that Heroic is “the way it’s meant to be played”
>>
>>731024296
Normal difficulty was designed in the year 2001 for kids who have never played an fps before. The idea of an adult with presumably 10+ years of gaming experience playing on normal and complaining about it being too easy is pretty funny
>>
>>731024296
The difficulties have a clear description.
>>
FPS games work better as 2.5D action maze crawlers
>>
>>731024974
I never complained about it being too easy, thougheverbeit, I called it boring.
>>
>>731014391
'Scripted FPS' is a terrible moniker for halo given that most of it's combat encounters just spawn some AI and let it take the wheel
>>
>>731025338
Exactly I have no idea what the fuck OP is talking about. Gaylo is a covershooter with no pacing at all.
>>
>>731022045
>kinda dishonest
You're the one who claimed this made-up term referred to something else. You could at least provide five or so examples or even just attempt to articulate what you mean instead of sounding like a baby.
>>
>>731024296
I mean, if you can't immediately realize that you set the difficulty too low after starting, then maybe you are the intended audience for normal.

It's a difference in taste, and that's all. There's no right or age-based way to enjoy a game.
Play what you want to. The point is entertainment or exploration of ideas.
