>Meta Cuts 1,500 Reality Labs Jobs in $70B VR Pivot

Studios Shut Down/Impacted:
Armature Studio: Known for Resident Evil 4 VR.
Twisted Pixel: Creators of Marvel's Deadpool VR.
Sanzaru Games: Developed Asgard's Wrath.
Ouro Interactive: A newer studio for Horizon Worlds content.
Oculus Studios Central Technology: A technical unit also affected.

Supernatural App:
No new content or features are planned; it's in "maintenance mode" with reduced staff.
Existing subscribers will still pay, but updates have ceased.

Broader Impact:
Meta is reallocating resources from its metaverse/VR efforts to AI and smart glasses.
The company also cut funding programs for indie developers, affecting companies like Cloudhead Games, which led to layoffs there too.

they should've given that money to me, even a billy would have sufficed.
The total happiness of the world would have risen massively and they wouldn't have been considered such massive clowns.
I'm still open for donations Mark by the way, do the right thing.
>>
>>731018782
These cunts should have that money taken from them in tax and given back to the people
>>
VR is a dead end. PSVR2 flopped hard and Steam Frame will do the same because its going to be expensive. Quest is only successful because its heavily subsidized by selling your data.

Why don't americans unionize
>>
>>731018782
Should have focused on the enthusiast maket and made hyper advanced sex sims, that would have avoided flushing billions or even trillions down the toilet by trying to appeal to normalfags.
>>
>>731020368
Our unions are run by Jews and provide few tangible benefits. Instead they’re basically just another tax

So my Quest 3 is an expensive brick after I finish my backlog? Fucking hell. Well, at least I have games for a year or more. I bought Deadpool from xmas sale too, but haven't even installed it yet because I have the 128GB model so I have to finish a game or two before I can make space for it
>>
>>731022015
just play pcvr games
>>
>>731020368
I enjoy how openly hostile this is towards the people they perceive as cattle
>>
>>731018782
It's ok when microsoft do it
>>
>>731020368
unions are just the lower version of democrat politicians
>>
>>731022510
There isn't that much PCVR games and I won't be able to buy a PC capable of playing VR games in 5-10 years anyways
>>
People act like this was a big retarded fuckup, but what he did was kinda ballsy. When you have that much money to throw around, it makes sense to leap on anything that might be the next big thing. It failed this time, oh well. I think they'll manage.
>>
>>731018782
Why didn't meta just fucking buy VR chat? That's where all the users were to begin with.....
>>
>>731022015
>caring about meta slop tech demos
I feel there is a massive divide in the VR space between the kind of normies who got obsessed by the Wii, MMO's like WOW, VR chat and normal gamers who just want an advanced monitor strapped to their face. The former group is repulsive to people with real money who actually play games and has killed the tech.

Any time i try to look up info on the VR space I'm confronted with weird people who don't belong in the game industry and who are all disillusioned by a failure to manifest ready player one 30 years before it was possible.
>>
>>731022974
>Can't afford 3k unless he saves for up to ten years
Are you actually in Africa?
>>
>>731023024
It was a big retarded fuckup because he completely failed. There was a path he could have taken that didn't flush tens of billions down the toilet and that actually succeeded in building the future he was imagining.
>>
>>731023025
They were sure that Horizon Worlds is going to be the next MS Teams so they didn't want trannies and the faggots of /vrg/ there
>>
>>731023024
Ballsy but mostly a big retarded fuckup. If a company drops billions on a project and the result is something that looks like a wii game and has few to no features, it's just a fuckup. It's mocked because it's comically mismanaged.
>>
>>731023025
The users went there because he didn't buy it. If meta bought it they would have fucked it and spawned a competitor they didn't own.
>>
>>731022723
You retards would gargle cum if someone told you it would "own the libs."
>>
>>731023167
The avatars looked like mii characters, the most popular custom avatar thing in video games. You can see what they were going for
>>
>make oculus
>It's just android
>developing apps should be so fucking easy, and it is based on all the Indian dogshit apps on the meta store
>meta themselves put out fuckall for actual fucking games because they want to be more focussed around Sim b2b Zoom shit
>zuck seriously anticipated people holding virtual meetings with 15 pound monitors strapped to their foreheads
Seriously they should have inundated us with free high quality games to get users up and THEN focus on the business shit that would never fucking take off
>>
>>731023084
I will never pay more than 1500€ for a PC. I have a PC and Mac already so I have even less reason to pay 3k€ just to play Half-Life Alyx and Fallout 4 VR
>>
>>731023419
Funnier still is how buggy and shitty it all is. To this day it's still less functional than the steamVR frontend(see: buggy dogshit)
>>
>>731023419
It's low fidelity, sure, if the project came together, it'd make sense. But it didn't. I just don't get where all those billions actually went. It seems more like a bunch of people pillaged it and ran off.
>>
>>731023570
Covid gave donothings some 5 years of not having to release deliverables. Not to say they would have delivered were it not for covid, but holy shit covid made it so easy to not work. The government basically forced companies to have employees work from home and get a paid sick day if they sniffled one time
>>
>>731023025
he would have made it proprietary, costly, and administrated, which would have destroyed the collaborative essence and thus ruined it
>>
>>731024182
(Earnest question) isn't VR chat proprietary and shitty now or did they relent on the "were banning mods" shit
>>
>>731018782
good riddance zuck, get the fuck out of VR so we can get some good games again
>>
>>731023898
Even then, it's hard to get. A billion is a lot of money. Even if you paid each employee 300k, a single billion would be paying for over 3000 employees per year. If even 10% of them were working, they could have something presentable. And we're to believe that tens of billions were pissed away? I don't get it.
>>
>>731024940
>even if 10% of them
If 10% of them were working in the same teams maybe
When you have 100+ projects and 10% of them are spread across those 100 projects you might find some decent bones in the mix, but no viable product

>tens of billions
Meta burned over $100 billion on this shit and did nothing but ruin all the VR games
>>
>>731025217
>don't touch oculus
>kids get excited to play beat saber because a friend at school played it
>....Wait a minute, I have that game....
>updates completely change the way the UI works, everything is clunkier
>beat saber also updates which broke all my fucking mods
>changing the VR environment isn't just a 1 click process anymore
What in the fuck did meta do with that money.....
>>
>>731023025
you can chat and groom just fine in ad riddled metaverse
