How to enjoy Dark Souls 2?

>>731024337I primarily got through it by the high that was finishing DS1 and really soaked DS1 in. For DS2 I went hybrid melee and sorc' as it often seems like the game really wants you to have ranged at least sometimes. I did enjoy often swapping between weapons, shields, binocs, and the many spells on the fly, and the very slow and easy nature of the game helps this, too (barring ambushes but they're not hard, tedious and cheap at best). It's a mediocre game that's lukewarm throughout, I drop it some way within the DLCs (typically finish ivory crown, do a bit of the other two). I can't see focusing entirely being one thing as being fun in DS2, the game showers you with so many weapons, armours, and more importantly, levels, that you can easily do a big mix.
people only disliked 2 because of soul memory, every other aspect of it was perfect

There are parts of earthen peak in that DLC, but that's because everything is being mushed together so you see parts of all sorts in there. Like DS1 firelink shrine at the bottom, where you fight demon prince.
