It’s been 30 years. Why is this still even a debate? We all know which is better, right?
64 for multiplayer, psx for single player
>>731023978In every home console generation Sony has been part of, the PlayStation has been the best option. I have no bias, it's just a fact.Objectively-speaking, I'm not even sure if I would place the N64 above the Japanese Saturn.
>>731024607>In every home console generation Sony has been part of, the PlayStation has been the best option. I have no bias, it's just a fact.Except for 7th gen. It had the worst ports of many multiplatform games due to developers having a hard time developing for it. The PS3 didn't really get good until 2012. There was also a massive content drought in 1st party titles as well, because of the PS2 still being massively popular. Most of the 1st party (and 3rd party) devs still wanted to release games on the previous gen hardware until about 2009.
I am an elder zoomer. I was not alive when either of these consoles came out. Nearly all of my experiences with them have been through emulation. I cannot fully understand the impact their respective games must have had when they came out. All I can do is judge them by how many games each has that I find enjoyable to play today. All that being said; if someone were to say that they think the top end of the N64 is better than anything on the PS1, I’d be willing to at least entertain that argument even if I don’t agree with it. However, for me personally I think the collected works of Konami, Capcom, Square, Namco, and every other third party publisher outweighs Nintendo and Rare for me by a wide margin.
>>731023978There is no debate, PSX is just better.
>>731025064>Except for 7th gen.>The PS3 didn't really get good until 2012.I accept your concession, it doesn't really matter if the PS3 sucked in 2007, 2008, etc, by the end of the generation, its library was at least on par with the X360's.I'd say the tide started to change as early as 2010.
>>731025735NTA but I’d still put it behind the 360 only because the older multiplats never got fixed.
>>731025840Except for a few cases like Bayonetta (noticeable performance issues on PS Triple, but it was playable), the differences between major multiplatform games weren't even that big. The generation exclusives make up for the multiplat disadvantage, even Persona 5 is on the (Japanese) Triple.
>>731023978PS1 > Saturn > N64
>>731025735>>731026360Yeah I hard disagree. Pretty much every Unreal game was objectively worse on PS3. Most of the features in the physics engine were missing from their PC/360 ports. >Saints Row II was terrible>every Bethesda game was terrible>the FEAR games were fucked>Borderlands 1 was pretty bad>Beyonetta as you mentioned was pretty bad>Crysis trilogy>every Farcry game>Mafia II>Doom 3 BFG (load times)>Orange Box>Assassins Creed 1 had a framerate in the teensThese are just what I remember. About 1/3rd of the 3rd party games for 2/3rds of its life were objectively the worst way to play them. That kinda makes the system a supplementary machine to the 360 imo.
>>731023978Nintendo fans will try to convince you Game Cube was better than PS2, so it's no wonder they still haven't admitted PS1 was better.
I can only speak for the generations I'm familiar with. I'm also including add-on games (Famicom Disk System, PC Engine CD, Mega CD, Satellaview, etc) as part of the core systems' libraries.>3rdNES > Sega System > Atari 7800>4thSNES > MD > PCE > Neo Geo>5thPS1 > Saturn (JP) > N64 > Saturn (West) > 3DO > Jaguar>6thPS2 > Xbox > GCN > DC7thPS3 > X360 > Wii>8thPS4 > XONE > Wii U>9thPS5 > Xbox X|S>but the Switch 1 and 2Not home consoles, merely companion platforms, about as relevant in this particular discussion as the Game Boy or Virtual Boy.
>>731027552The Gamecube had some pretty good games but it's definitely worse than the Xbox and the PS2. I'd even say the Dreamcast was better if not for the fact it died in 2001 and the Xbox poached most of its upcoming games.
>>731027552>Nintendo fans will try to convince you Game Cube was better than PS2I think by pure hardware specs, they're not lying? I think most multiplats also ran better. Xbox has them both beat though.
>another consolewar thread
N64's highest highs reign supreme but PS1 is orders of magnitudes more consistent and comprehensive. Play the 10 great games that N64 has, then play PS1 for the rest of your fucking life.
>>731023978>Why is this still even a debate?Because snoys won the war 30 years ago but keep making the same N64 threads every week as if they didn’t.
