Which one turned out to be the bigger disappointment?

Starfield 100%. NMS was a victim of overpromising, but had the bones to become what it is today. Starfield is the latest step down in game design from Bethesda. Even die hard fans don't like it. The story is lame, the choices are non existent, there's essential NPCs everywhere in a story where that shouldn't be an issue at all, the companions are insufferable, no aliens, no soul, all bland slop.

>one has galore of loading screens, shitty plot and nothing to do
>other one has galore of loading screens, shitty plot and nothing to do
don't see much of a difference desu

i had no expectations for either, but starfield was genuinely one of the worst games i've ever played
every day i praise gabe for refunding my purchase despite having 31 hours played

There's something about creating mining outposts that tickles my autism just right.

Complete and total shit? Even today NMS has no redeeming factors.

>Starfield is the latest step down in game design from Bethesda.
Na, Starfield had a lot of improvements over Bethesa's past games
-Background have returned.
-Traits have returned.
-Background/trait/skill checks are all over the place.
-NPCs are even further integrated into the game world and all of its quests then Fo4's, now being able to step in for the player and resolve situations in certain conversations.
-The faction questlines are probably the most developed they've done since Oblivion. Not only that, they DON'T make you the leader of every faction, and all of the faction questlines have multiple options throughout on how you resolve quests.
-Cities are the largest Bethesda has ever done, and actually feel somewhat populated.
-FPS combat is improved over Fallout 4's
-Game actually introduced vehicles like spaceships, and cars on the ground

Fallout 4 is actually better than Starfield

>bigger disappointment
disappointment implies I had hopes of it being good.
I knew Starfield would be ass, it didn't disappoint.
I figured that NMS was over promising but I had hope that it would become fun when they continued updating it. Instead it became a bland collect-a-thon.
NMS disappointed me more.

Mostest lukewarm take ever. Hooking my balls into a car battery is better than FLOPfield.

not a high bar for sure

>loading screens
they can't be remotely comparable
NMS let's you land and take off, as well as traverse a planet without loading screens
there just isn't anything to do on a planet, so it could really use some copy-paste bandit camps

Who the fuck cares?

No Man's Sky was a horrific blunder, but it was also from some random dev I didn't expect much from. More importantly, they continued to work on it to the point they're still adding new content and features every few months. It's now an actually decent game (if you like that kind of thing), all of which never charged players more than the initial purchase. No DLC, no expansions, no "remastered" version.

Starfield is from a dev that has near infinite money and resources and is known for some of the most popular series in existence, yet is one of the most dull games I've ever experienced. And while you could argue that Bethesda is going to work on fixing aspects of the game, it's been over a year and all that's really been done is some minor changes through patches and a paid DLC that's abysmal.

I'd argue No Man's Sky was maybe more disappointing because I wanted the lies to be true. But, in a lot of ways, they eventually made all of their claims reality, while not charging people a since cent more. Starfield I expected so little from modern Bethesda, and I was still let down. It wasn't as monumental of a disappointment as No Man's Sky was originally, but it is a substantially worse product overall. And the worst part is, I don't see patches, DLC, or even mods fixing Starfield like No Man's Sky got fixed.

This. People just wanted Fallout 4.5 in space and Bethesda fucked up even that. Most importantly they threw away THE ONE THING they actually did quite well as a studio, the world design. The moment that decision was made, Starfield as a game was doomed.

I've got hundreds of hours in NMS, and I quit Starfield after a handful of hours because it was so boring. That should say everything, honestly.
