I just recently finiished A monster's expedition, and then went to try to finish Baba is you since I never did. What I realized is that a gripe of baba is you for me is that the puzzles don't ever feel elegant. Sokoban puzzles, once you know the solution, are often quick with little extra movement, but a lot of puzzles in baba involve you just moving shit back and forth and nothing is compact

With the exception of a few rooms, the solutions always feel freeform, there are very few rooms where there's one exact sequence you have to hit and nothing else will work, and all of those rooms are towards the end of the game.
