Absolutely BRUTAL mog
>>
That was Nintendo's fatal mistake with the Super Nintendo, they didn't make a proper follow up to Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island is vastly different to be its own thing. Same with the GBA and even the DKC games there had new stuff, DKC3 especially.

what do you mean "fatal mistake", all of these games were system sellers

Mogs what? Mogs the Sega Genesis?

We had an NES with SMB1-3. Save for SMB2JP, there was no reason to buy All-Stars. The DKC trilogy and Yoshi's Island were new and original while All-Stars was the same games we played on the NES and SMB1 having botched physics, which I noticed later on when I got older.

Mario needed a new 2D game, and NSMB was too little too late and even the first game didn't linger with me, never mind the sequels.

Battery save and modernized graphics (which some people criticize, but still).

Rare under Nintendo's wing was the best, they were pumping out games left and right and it continued into the N64 era.

Imagine if we got an original Mario Platformer for the GBA instead of the SNES ports, heck Zelda had Minish Cap, DK had King of Swing, Sonic had the Advance Trilogy which could also be considered another brutal mogging now that I'm thinking about it.

Some folks consider New Soup DS as Lightning in a Bottle.

All Stars was very comfy though, it is like comparing apples to oranges. They both serve two different purposes

>Battery save
The games can be beat in one sitting, without warps.
>modernized graphics
Actually broke the game in the case of SMB3, the NES palette was some of the best visual work done in a Mario game if not an NES game period.

Absolutely agree with you on the Sonic Advance games and King of Swing was a nice game alongside the DKC games.
>New Soup DS as Lightning in a Bottle.
And that's saying something. I didn't care for it long-term but that is something I can give it credit for, it had some originality that the later games failed to recreate.

For all the complaints about "muh rehash", Nintendo is actually very restrained in the number of Mario games they release. Most consoles have 1 new Mario even when fans are clearly asking for more.
>never got a mario world 3 starring mario again
>never got mario 64 2
>never got mario 128
>never got odyssey 2

Meanwhile Rare:
>dkc 1/2/3
>banjo-kazooie, tooie
Sega:
>sonic 1/2/3
>sonic advance 1/2/3
>sonic adventure 1/2
Sony:
>crash 1/2/3
>spyro 1/2/3
>jak 1/2/3
>ratchet 1/2/3/4
All gave fans of the first game anywhere from 1 to 3 sequels on the same console.

64 needed a sequel with better level design or more refined level design and courses with more gimmicks like Tick Tock Clock and Wet-Dry World. I don't think they even attempted to scratch the surface with what they could have done with 64. Some romhacks managed to scratch those itches for me.

All-Stars is comfy, but let’s not pretend it didn’t mess with the original feel a bit. SMB1 and Lost Levels got a little floaty, and SMB3’s new look stripped away a lot of that juicy 8-bit charm. That grainy, crunchy aesthetic is a flavor you just don’t get in 16-bit. It’s like smoothing pixel art-sure, it’s cleaner, but you lose a bit of the soul. Battery save was good for Lost Levels, but the rest? Still Saturday afternoon games if you knew the routes.

Do you share my opinion that SMB2 was actually an improvement visually? Because for all my problems with All-Stars, SMB2's visuals were not one of them. Luigi's sprite from SMAS-SMW was also my favorite Luigi sprite and it seems people don't like it.
