They also dock your check if you take too long to explore. This means that the game not only disincentivizes exploration, it actively punishes you for it. But if they actively punish you for it, then why the FUCK did they put optional content in the game???It is pants-on-head retarded design and I have NO idea how this wave of FF8 apologists even came to be a thing. Look at FFVII Compilation which is mostly all written by him, or the weird story changes in Remake, which is also written by him. Also, many parts of 7 have the same strangeness to it that 8 has. I think sometimes Nojima's sense of fancy gets the better of him, and he writes abject drivel instead.
