There are many issues with Odin's depiction in this game, I don't think this is one of them. Odin is a very specific god in the myths, you can't just box him in with others. He practices "feminine" magic. In Asgard, he's built temples dedicated to worship of unknown gods. He embodies antithetical concepts in singular form. I think visually he's fine. It would be more kino if they put gold or silver shavings into his clothes so when he walks near torches, it gets otherworldly glint, which is a real thing practiced by Norse seers, but whatever.

Where they've completely lost me is when he opened his mouth. What a terrible script. Whoever wrote that piece of shit dialogue should be taken behind the barn. Shame about Angrboda too. Could've been a god from a distant realm but no, she is actually a Norse god because fuck you.

One of the main themes of the norse/proto germanic god myths is that gods really are just normal people with super powers and really bad tempers, all the stories are either about the people of the realms subverting the gods, or the gods proving that they are evil/pathetic. GoW4 and 5 basically do this perfectly.

Yet he tells Atreaus and others "I am a god, boy." "I was born a god". Saying Kratos is a god is like saying Hercules, Theseus, Perseus and others were gods.
God=/=venerated when we're talking about mythology, being a god means having supernatural powers and not all gods were venerated or considered important in mythologies. Kratos is a god, he was just never venerated which is why the end of Ragnarok is such a big moment, its Kratos still being a god of war who uses power and violence but uses it in a way that makes him a protector of his new home and the people he is responsible for.
