Hello uncs,

Is this any good as I heard it was. I played ff7 and that was truly beautiful. Playing Chrono trigger starting tomorrow but also want to line up another game with a good soundtrack after that
>>
No it's actually dogshit. RPG Castlevania started with Circle of the Moon

Try treasure hunter G and demon's crest. Those are proto games as in were a role model for hundreads of games
>>
>>731059885
The castle design and layout is my favourite of any of these games but it's too easy, it leans hard on exploration and the variety of enemy types and items to be enjoyable. I'd recommend it though.

Find one pixel character that looks as majestic as alucard

I may be an unc but I first played the game during covid and found it to be amazing

it's great, but in its own way. You'd just have to play it and see

Don't believe the hype on this one, SotN has to be one of the most overrated games of all time.
I'd say it's a 7/10 at best, which is alright, but don't expect anything amazing.

>line up another game with a good soundtrack after that
my man.
also yes, it's incredibly smooth gameplay-wise and the music in it rocks. castlevania in general has had a lot of amazing ost's.

games are a product of their time. they do not exist in a vacuum they are to be compared with their contemporaries and this game stood out amongst its peers. Nowadays SotN is so influential that is seen as a base formula to be iterated on thus there are "better" games

You can't see old games as good or bad, you either have fun or you don't playing them. If you try to force a modern lens and modern expectations on old games you are a fuckign nigger

>If you try to force a modern lens and modern expectations on old games you are a fuckign nigger
Sounds like you're a projecting gigazoomer. Expecting "modern" things is not a default mindset, nobody forces you to "expect" anything going into a game, and you shouldn't be doing it.
I don't "expect" a single fucking thing when playing a new game, thus I approach all games equally. Games don't "age" because age was never going to be a factor.
An old, bad game was always bad and an old good game is always going to be good. I trust my judgment on this because I know I met the game on neutral terms. It's that simple.

It's good but it's one of those games that was done better by basically everything else after it. Really badly balanced, tends to be on the easy side. It has some gorgeous spritework though.
>>
>>731059885
It's the only castlevania I'd ever play.

>But it's too easy
This. After a point that can be relatively early if you know what you're doing, Alucard becomes fucking unstoppable barring like maybe two bosses. Even earlier if you know how to do command inputs well for spells which implement a whole new layer of bullshit for fodder to deal with.

Frankly I'm more upset they made one of the best feeling games but did nothing with the jumping or platforming.

Not really. It has soul but that's it. The classic Castlevanias are miles better. Order of Ecclesia is pure kino though.
>>
>>731065245
Why? Aren't there like 60 castlevania games?
>>
>>731059885
Beautiful graphics, wonderful soundtrack, gameplay feels great, balance is abysmal dogshit.
If you can, get the retranslation mod for the Japanese version. You'll miss out on the arguably iconic voice over of the English version but the translation will be considerably better.

The sequels are really divisive but worth playing to make up your own opinion on them. FF8 and Chrono Cross.

Also I suggest Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Racing Lagoon, Live a Live, Mario RPG, FF5 and 6, Earthbound, DQ5, Terranigma, Grandia and Skies of Arcadia for snes and ps1 and dreamcast rpgs.

>it's too easy
Oddly enough it feels as if they playtested the game's balance by having someone rush through it in the intended sequence and gave no wiggle room for exploration in their exploration-heavy game. The moment you start over-leveling or piling on new equipment you find the difficulty is trivialized because even some bosses end up doing single digit damage against your triple digit health.

Been meaning to play through it again with the HardType mod.
>>
>>731059885
''Metroidvanias'' are all about exploration and item collection. These games have no challenge and that's okay. The game is good. If you want challenge, play the Classics. CV1 is the hardest.
>>
>>731059885
It's great but it is almost unbelievably easy. Fun for a play.
