>No, warriors can't use staves!>Only mages are allowed to use staves!>You vill use le sword and you vill like it!Why is literally every video game ever made like this?
>>731063530This is why Crescent Staff, The Chief's Enforcer, and Slavedriver's Cane were so cool in classic wow, luv bonking things with a staff as god intended
>>731063530That's barely a staff at that point. It's more like a double ended mace.
>>731063530luv me ribcracker, simple as
>>731063530>SwordWarrior weapon>BowRanger weapon>StaffMonk weapon>MaceCleric weapon>HammerPaladin weapon>SpearKnight weapon>AxeBerserker weapon>KnifeRogue weapon>TomeWizard weapon
>Halberds were some of the most multifunctional weapons that actually worked on the battlefield and even as guard weapons>Halberds look cool as fuck just from the profile alone>not a single fantasy game has a legendary halberd, it's all just legendary swordshow do we fix this?
>>731066203shouldn't sword or lance be the knight weapon, and spear the soldier/warrior weapon?
>>731066225>not a single fantasy game has a legendary halberd, it's all just legendary swordshttps://pathfinderwrathoftherighteous.wiki.fextralife.com/Rod+of+Razors
>>731066281Knights are more in tune with the idea of Cavalry, which the spear/lance is better suited for thematically.Knights are also more likely to have a shield, being a more defensive archetype.
>>731066225Sorry best we can do is a spear that only uses slash attacks
>>731066373it is a correct assumption, but i would argue the sword is more in line with the nobility/chivalric ideals of a knight, while the spear is for the footmen or warrior on formation.
>>731066493The assumptions are being made for the sake of a middle-fantasy party of heroes, admittedly. In a lower fantasy or realistic setting the two could definitely be swapped.
In Diablo 2, you can make BOTD in an Archon Staff. And there's Ribcracker.
>>731066225Baldur's Gate 2 has Wave (instakills Efreeti, Fire Elementals, and Salamanders, including bosses) and Ravager (10% chance to instakill most enemies but not bosses).
>>731066203>>Hammer>Paladin weaponI know this is the trope but it's never made sense to me. Paladins mostly fight undead things like zombies and vampires; why are they using anti-armor weaponry against unarmored targets?
>>731066225They just look lame compared to swords
>>731067738The most abundant undead enemy of all is the skeleton, which resists slashing and piercing.
>>731067902Fair enough, though it seems like you could just use a greatsword or put the sheath back on for that.
>>731068019An ordinary greatsword/zweihander isn't actually heavy enough to cause damage with the flat of the blade, since the weight is evenly distributed along its length and they don't weigh much to begin with. You'd cause more harm with a gauntleted fist.
>>731067738On top of ehat the other anon said Paladins are generally considered Lawful, and a central 'tool' of Judges is the gavel. Therefore hammers are 'lawful' weapons.
>>731066203>TomeWhat if I prefer an orb?
>>731063530If you play Path of Exile 1 there are Warstaves that are generally physical melee weapons and they are pretty damn good. They are the crit based melee weapon. In PoE2 Quarterstaves are melee, but they are a Dex/Int option and are all about elemental skills.
>>731069545Orbs and spell foci are off-hand items, like religious icons for Clerics
>>731069661Spoken like a man who won't hold his orb.
Any good or even decent RPGs that let you be a wizard? My friend gave me Mage Arena and I've been kicked into Magic Mode.
>>731063530I think there were somel law in some pr-industrial(i.e. "medieval") countries where the clergy were not allowed to carry knives or sharp weapons that could draw blood but were still allowed to defend themselves and their churches with blunt weapons and supposedly the flail/morning-star was carried by clergymen for this purpose. But I could be wrong and lot of "facts" of the "middle ages" (which somehow people think it also includes the "early modern era") are heavily tainted by pop-culture
>>731070083Clerics used the same weapons as normal people. The morning star was used because it was cheaper, more durable and hit a lot harder than a sword, while being much shorter and easier to carry and wear than a polearm, especially as a side arm or in civil.
>>731063530Because game devs. Nothing stops a warrior/fighter to use a staff like a bonk stick. Nothing stops them from using anything else as a weapon either. Not being able to use staves is a very petty arbitrary limitation. However, they cannot use staves to a full potential, as in use them as a focus/source to cast magic/boost to magics etc, and if they bonk someone hard enough, the staff might break.Same with wands - can poke someone's eye out or pierce a skull or clobber up, but cant cast magic from it for shit.>>731066062This.Also, in Morrowind, you can use staves as a warrior to your heart's content. They are not exactly durable, but have good reach and a ttack speed. Enchant one with some damage speed and proceed to bully enemies. Just watch out for dremoras and anything with spell reflect.
>>731066225What's the point of bladed halberds when the Bec de Corbin exists?
>>731066203Good, but its arbitrary. Anyone should be able to use anyone's weapon. However, the full potential can only be realised by the specific class. Nothing stops ranger from using a hammer, but only paladin can use it to its full potential - special moves, boost to smites, attack and damage rolls, special effects, etc. And wizard's tone is something that is useless for almost anyone unless they have dipped 1 level into wizard, have magic initiate feat, or are spellcasters (and even then they cannot use it for even half of the efficiency).>>731067738>hammerBlunt weapon. Has an inherent 50% damage and attack boost against undead.
>>731069485I hate 5e and what they did to Paladins. They just made them Oath Knights.
for me it's spearsgames never have spears for some reasonimagine being and growing up playing morrowind as a spear chad only to have no spears in oblivion and in skyrimi was literally crying for decades
Are there any games like Morrowind you guys would recommend?
>>731066225>not a single fantasy game has a legendary halberdWhat. BG3 has Halberd of Vigilance. HoMM4 has Halberd of Swiftwatch. If you want to bitch about TES games, Morrowind has Stormforge halberd (your point stands with oblivion and skyrim). If you use Tamriel Rebuilt, there are a few more. I think Pillars of Eternity has one or two (i think one of those is called Half-Mast and you only get it by killing the dragon hunter). They are rare, but they do exist.>fixNo way of fixing people's optics. Its all about appearances, and sword = cool in most people's eyes.
>>731071672What is a spear meant to do against someone wearing ebony or daedric plate?
>>731071972same thing as swords but better and more efficiently
