Especially with all the changes that need to be made to make remakes acceptable for 'MODERN AUDIENCES™' and woke platform holders, a new IP is a huge risk. At least with a remake you know that name recognition will get a few people interested, even if the final product is a censored, woke abomination compared to the original. Usually enough normies will buy it to satisfy the stockholders and the devs can claim that actual fans are just haters because they made a small profit.
