Is SF6 really that good?
>>
>>731085142
It's the only decent fighter from the former big titles. It has some problems but it still works unlike Tekken which shit the bed and then shit it explosively when "fixing it".
>>
>>731085142
It's by far the most popular fighting game in Japan thanks to the reach its community had in building stuff beyond "pro tournaments"
>>
only modern game that didnt go tranny mode
yea
>>
It's not really about the quality, SF6 became a lifestyle brand in Japan somehow.
>>
>>731085142
>there was a time when Tekken dethroned SF as EVO's headliner game
crazy to see it fall so hard after it reached such a height

I fucking kneel especially for VSAV.

Holy fucking shit. People saying GBVS is dead, but Tekken 8 fell off way harder and much higher

honestly not really. the singleplayer tried to do something which was good but basically completely failed at it which is bad. the roster is small and they're very slow to add more characters.

it mostly looks pretty shitty too, beginning with the terrible cover image with the completely headass decision for the expression they give Luke. And the decision to use Luke as posterboy at all is pretty bad too, no one likes Luke.

I dunno you could go on forever, it's a very flawed game. Mechanically it's okay at least, I don't think it's significantly worse than most other SF games at least.
>>
>>731086523
pretty similair numbers to the big vsav tournament they have in japan
numbers probably going to be half of that at na evo but thats still pretty good
>>
I was in japan like 3 weeks ago
sf6 and sf4 is what people are playing in the arcade
>>
i didn't know unib was so much smaller in japan than the west
>>
>>731085142
Considering this is still the current numbers, seems the final numbers would still be grim as usual with that much entrants for SF6. Kudos to VSAV though.

I'm just happy MB still has players

It's astonishing how people accept Guilty Gear as a big player nowadays thanks to Strive.
Xrd literally had like 600k sales in total. THE pretender game actually became a game people actually play instead of simply running their mouth about.

>>731087139
I lived in Japan for over a year and you're lying.
Yes, there are some SF arcades here and there. Same for Tekken. The only game people truly play at the arcades today is Gundam VS. Kanagwa, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto. That was the only game that was present and being played everywhere.

>It's by far the most popular fighting game in Japan
that's kind of wild since iirc its initial release was a total flop. even getting outsold by some niche Dungeon crawler rerelease.

And with ranked mode plus the upcoming 2.0 expansion update, it sure do boosted the franchise's playerbase. Can't wait for more info.
>>
>>731087490
"Big player" is a stretch when it has 1/15th as many entrants as the next biggest title, even if it's 2nd. It has fallen off very very hard since launch, or in other words, it was a SF6 waiting room.

No, it's just the least retarded of the bunch. T8 started less retarded (slightly) but shat itself hard with season 2. GG strive is a total joke compared to Xrd and the others are all niche/memes.

Bring back Soul Calibur, 6 shits on all of these

As a casual fighting game player SF6 is the first game I stuck with longer than a month. Mainly because the QoL, onboarding and online is very good. I also just llike how it animates and feels, punching shit feels good, I did not enjoy the weird UE4 jank feel of SFV

JP was never that big on tekken in the first place so the numbers look really weird.
That being said the game is in a dire state. Even if this were for US Evo numbers, I wouldn't be booking a thousand dollar trip to Vegas ($238 for normal tickets, $400 for airfare, $450 for 3 nights in a hotel, plus eating out all weekend), just so I could go get mixed by Anna's stupid fucking offense and maybe go 1-2.

t7 cabs were completely empty everywhere

I kinda have to scoff at anyone being like “now this Saudi shit is crossing the lines” when the modern fgc was already asking for this shit. What did these dipshits always say? “Gotta chase that bag” well guess what. You sleep in the bed you make too.

SF6 is a 9/10 package for maybe a 6-7/10 game
it oscillates a lot between being fun, and being absolute cancer for reasons both linked to system mechanics and characters

>the abortion that was s4
S4 is probably one of the best seasons the game ever had, if you exclude the initial month of S4 release where they fucked up and some characters had literal TODs (and Ram was immune to counterhits)
Then with 4.5, they nerfed the shit out of Wild Assault, nerfed RISC (both scaling and gain), nerfed Guard Crush by making it possible to YRC
They nerfed/removed a lot of annoying stuff (Nago looping high/low, Sin killing you off a random Elk Hunt and recycling resources, removing mash to get out of stagger)
Some characters got nice QOL stuff that makes them more enjoyable to play without making them too strong (Ky always hitting both hits of Stun Dipper, Axl getting HKD on Snail)

Also the ranked mode is alright, but it's not difficult to do better than tower desu

The only bad part are a couple sour spots with the top tiers, Potemkin got buffed into being stupid as hell, Goldlewis should only have had security cancels as a compensation buff for drone/minigun nerfs, and Happy Chaos was basically untouched. Ramlethal's rework was also pointless and she's still busted.
The good thing is they promised to bring down the power level for 2.0, so hopefully these characters will be targeted.
>>
>>731096625
Slayer and Nago are still in the game.
>>
>>731085142
Capcom somehow made Street Fighter cool in japan, so women, zoomers, and normalfags enjoy it. but everywhere else the game is popular due to the reputation SF5 left on the massive group of orbiters in fighting games. Fighting games are one genre with more pretend-players than actual players, so there was a HUGE untapped market. SF5 was hated by orbiters and non-players so when 6 came out, they pushed it as the second coming of christ. So the game has nothing but positive reception if you look online, leading to more new people to check the game out.

Anyways, the gameplay itself is atrocious. It's probably the worst fighting game in a long time. I know people say every game is shit but its real this time. The gameplay of SF6 was carefully and deliberately designed to appeal to someone who HATES fighting games, its like an anti-street fighter. Imagine if mario kart world was JUST the intermissions, the only item was the bullet bill, and you only had the original 8 characters with no costumes. Then you have people telling you that they cut out all the bad parts of mario kart (the tracks, the items, the drifting, the turns, the obstacles) so you're left with the core which is just holding A and using the bullet bill to speed ahead.

The problems with SF6's gameplay can only be explained by comparing it to good games because SF6 took out so much skill and expression.

I cannot overstate just how bad SF6 is, there has been a huge mass delusion about the game where people pretend the game is perfect because they don't play any other fighting game and don't want to go back to being gameless, so even just saying one little thing would get you dogpilled and banned instantly. Like hardcore reddit mod levels of ban. That shaped the discourse around the game for years but the pendulum is starting to swing back as people are slowly being more open about accepting that the game was never good. The game is successful and shit. Which is the worst combination.

>>731096841
Slayer bulling strive players in my reward to what ASW did to guilty gear. Same as ever and the casual audience they needlessly sacrificed for bitch endlessly about it. Love to see it.
>>
>>731096841
Nago got meaningfully nerfed, beyblade is no longer a low and his overhead doesn't combo on normal hit with RC anymore. They also reduced the cancel window into the overhead, I think you can fuzzy block overhead/2S now.

Slayer is stupid as fuck, got next to no nerfs and still has a shit ton of privileges compared to characters with similar tools
You beat his ass and it doesn't matter because with his health pool he just RCs the second you stop pressuring him and either he's mixing your shit, or he's gonna hit you with pilebunker loops for 50% of your health off a fucking 2P
The only thing I can say is there are characters that feel worse to play against, because you can at least kinda zone him out
>>
>>731086941
>the roster is small
Anybody that tries to bring up roster size needs to remember that Tekken and NetherRealm are the absolute kings of recycling, even more than fucking Capcom when it comes to Street Fighter. 6 is to have 30 characters at the end of season 3 (aka when Ingrid releases). While that's smaller than V's roster (which had 34 by the end of their year 3), it's still a pretty good size for anybody to pick a character they like.
>but SF4 had 25 on launched then increased to 10 year 2
Vanilla SF4 also had a fifth of the roster maybe more dedicated to shotos and then proceeded to give us MORE shotos as the years continued and almost nobody fucking played them unless their names were Evil Ryu and Ken.

Long story short, a massive roster out the gate isn't always a good thing.
>>
>>731097309
Goes to show how important first impressions are. SFV fixed a lot more stuff than SF6 did at this point, but one launched like cheeks and SF6 was good in context and understanding it was the launch version and it was expected to have similar support and changes like SFV. I didn’t expect it to be still be the exact same game years later. Not a lot of people care though because they base it off the intial online impression which was a thumbs up. So here we are.

It had a strong arcade following but Uni2 isn't in arcades.
And when you take out the community aspect and you're just sitting at home playing fighting games you may as well just play SF since that's where both the players and all the money is at.

>>731085142
>Uni2
>45 players
Fucking oof
>>
>>731099385
Fireball drive rush isn't even that bad, approaching behind a fireball is not something new
What's fucking insane in this game is the corner carry, you get hit by a single move midscreen and you're in the corner, and several characters can take you coast to coast

Also to me, the character kits are incoherent as hell
For example, why the fuck has Marisa got some borderline useless plus frames despite having shoddy neutral, yet Sagat has a 6f medium that's +2 and lets him do insane pressure, before still being able to force an RPS with his rekka?
Why is Mai just a better Chun, with a more degenerate fireball that's available without any charge?
What the fuck is going on with Lily?
