Has it paid off, from a business standpoint?
>>
no and it never will, same thing with epic giving away free games
>>
>>731101904
Obviously not if they had to raise the price.
>>
>>731101904
They're gonna axe that shit for a greater AI focus.
>>
>>731101950
> no and it never will
Microsoft reported that Game Pass became profitable Sept 2025, even with the price hike.
>free Epic games
The point of those is to build up users’ libraries so they feel invested in Epic. What’s stopping them is that Steam just works better.
>>731102001
They raised the price TO make it profitable—and it worked.
>>731102017
Why not both?
>>
>>731101904
>nuke your physical unit selling potential
>severly hurt selling your digital licenses
>take away worth to the platform... somehow
>raise the price triggering the few people coping with the service alienating them
>Despite not being very profitable and only midway into reach that point by bleeding your sorry bunch of "audience" go on an acquisition spree costing billions of dollars
>Raise the price again because you simply NEED to
>It will take at least a decade if thing go right to reach profit margins due all the added costs
>But Xbox reached rock bottom in terms of selling with the platform selling 2 millions.... in a whole year
Clearly not.
>>
>>731101904
Depends on what Microsoft wants to do. I think it's positioned them well to become a megapublisher, but it hasn't done shit to help Xbox as a dying brand. I really do think consoles are vestigial for them at this point.
>>
>>731101904
No, it's only goal was to dissolve the Xbox brand and then extinguish it, Xbox as a brand never made a penny for Microsoft and they needed a quiet way to kill it so they could focus on AI slop
>>
>>731103404
Xbox is done for and if they manage to make a 10th gen system, just fucking watch them make it digital only with the disc drive sold separately to increase profits.

It will be KILL if the PS6 counters with a regular console at launch as usual.
>>
>>731101904
There’s no way it could’ve been worth it for them. Insane idea.
>>
>>731102208
you're ignoring the people that unsubscribed after the price hike
>>
Realistically speaking, what is post-Xbox Microsoft gonna look like for gaming?
What are they keeping and what would they gladly get rid of given the chance?
>>
>>731105664
They won't get any profits, that system is sell less than Series and they sell at loss.
>>
>>731106017
Regardless of what happen, they will never recoup 9th gen and 10th gen is already lost for them no matter what.
>>
So if/when Xbox as a brand dies, will they keep Activision and Bethesda as "brands" or just call everything Microsoft Gaming?
>>
>>731101904
they fucked up by not releasing gamepass exclusives
>>
>>731106531
Xbox will stop producing console hardware, at best (worst?)
>>
>>731105880
>Realistically speaking, what is post-Xbox Microsoft gonna look like for gaming?
>leaving console gaming and returning to PC gaming
>making a first-party mini-PC and handheld PC that will launch within the Xbox full screen experience but like a console, will have full Windows desktop, backwards compatibility with OG Xbox, 360, Xbone, and Xseries, won't come with pre-installed launchers, will take emulations that Microsoft approves-only, won't be able to install any other OS on it, will cost over $1000
>OEMs that can be cheaper and more expensive than Microsoft's first party devices
>Xbox Cloud Gaming
>will keep seeing if this third party thing will work, but will eventually switch to just letting third party making their things without even leading the projects just to save cost
>may sell off studios and IPs, in the future
>may let some of their studios go independent in the future
>switching to a direct-to-consumer model
>>
>>731107139
They are going to buy valve

Microsoft's on its last legs in terms of gaming, their gaming acquisition days are over. After next gen, I can see the future of Xbox games looking like what we're seeing with Blizzard's Starcraft IP which is letting others make the games, already happening with Halo, currently. Even Sony is doing this with their Japanese IPs. There will be no acquiring Valve let alone Valve allowing it.

It made everything worse for no reaon.
>no more free last gen games with gold
>sounds worse than "Xbox Live Gold"
>price hiked multiple times
>makes me not want to buy another xbox
>>
I was going over the $30 Ultimate only offerings and EA Play is doing the heavy lifting here.

Love Dead Space and Crysis. But I have all these and they are cheap to own. I saw Crysis 3 for $8 physical the other day.
>>
>>731109160
What are the odds they sell IPs outright to make up for the money pit the Activision acquisition was and/or the money loss for funding AI projects?

Don't forget that the 68B acquisition of Actiblizz also needed to be paid off

Interestingly, just last week Bobby Kotick claimed that MS was a fool for paying that amount...

Has it nearly eliminated all competition from the West? Yes
Mision accomplished. Jeet CEO collects money under the table from EU and the CCP as thanks.
>>
>>731111140
Kotick's a motherfucker to the last but also a shrewd businessman.
>>
>>731111140
> Don't forget that the 68B acquisition of Actiblizz also needed to be paid off
Microsoft doesn’t need to “pay off” these purchases.
These were one-time equity buys, made with cash UP-FRONT. They’re sunk costs made for the talent, properties. pipelines, and infrastructure.
Do you people know ANYTHING about business?
>>
>>731112749
I think Anon worded it wrong but I think he meant they still need to make up for the losses after spending that much dosh on those acquisitions
>>
>>731108539
Nightmare scenario
>>
>>731101904
it was until they went retarded
>>
>>731102208
I think that’s in combination with them cutting the games that are on and have been coming to gamepass. the only day one shit on there now is visual novel, unity story asset slop, and Microsoft studios games. I’ve been playing series x every week since it launched and gamepass content has been significantly reduced and there are only 2-3 big games on there now
>>
>>731114418
I also forgot to mention it absorbed Xbox live like 4 months ago so instead of Xbox live+gamepass it’s now just gamepass. like saying unemployment went down because you are not counting people not looking for work anymore
>>
>>731114486
That was so fucking funny.
>YOO DEY GETTIN RID OF XBOX LIVE!!
>Gamepass Required**
>>
>>731102208
They said Game Pass is profitable for developers, not that Game Pass itself is profitable for Microsoft. And then they increased the price
>>
I’ve enjoyed game pass it’s kept me from spending 70 dollars all the time. What’s funny is there has been no good games released besides BF1 and that was ten years ago, so I can just play shitty Indy games for cheap now. Thanks game pass.
>>731105370 and yet it still shit on snoy. Kek
>>
can Game Pass die soon please.

It seems they're keeping it on life support just long enough until everyone starts being ushered onto cloud gaming from artificial scarcity of hardware.

Then they can say it's a success.
>>
>>731101904
I get it for free and i feel.ripped off. Iys 99% shovelware shit. Also they have no exclusives anymore which was the whole fucking point in it.
>>
>>731110363
Probably high
>>
How many more years do you give it?
