8 is just better in every way. I get the love it/hate it of the junction system. 10 is also vastly superior. 7 is still very good. 7 loses out because it pivots the plot 25% of the way in to something dramatically worse.

7 revitalized the genre for sure and set the standard for JRPGs going forward.It's not a top 5 final fantasy tho.
bit of a bummer how FFX combat is a massive improvement over ATB because the FF7 feel is just an old square game with maxxed out budget, they had something great going on but they bought onto their own hype and learned every wrong lesson from this game and now we depend on Atlus not milking Persona 5 until 2040 because Square thinks jrpgs don't sell and would never dare to give a 30 million dollar budget to a new one unless it's Dragon Quest

>>731115348Kefka being directly or indirectly was always the main antagonist of the game and went down as one, in VII Sephiroth was always a figment of Cloud's memories and the real antagonist (Hojo) went almost unceremoniously. VI has better cast but VII has overall better story and thematics. I still prefer VI over VII but I can entertain the argument of VII being better.
