Semi related, watching some random streams one day and for damn near 15 minutes a streamer stopped the game fucking around with graphic settings. I swear I couldn't see a difference or notice what ever he was talking about. I don't even know what screen tearing is. This pursuit and fixation of hyper ultra mega realistic graphics is a cancer.

Lmao no, in most older engines (and in source 2) you literally just press a button, wait 10-30 min for the engine to generate pre-baked lighting for you and then your done.

This is the one thing real time ray tracing is good for, instead of having to wait for 30 min the devs just needs a card that supports ray tracing and wait for a couple of sec for the scene to update instead. If the game doesn't have a fuckton of dynamic moving things in the scene there is literally no reason to do the lighting in real time which means that we CAN have the benefits of real time ray tracing in game dev with none of the downsides, hell, devs could probably even mix it, giving only dynamic items in the scene real time tracing while the static parts are pre-baked.

The one downside would be game size as pre-baked lighting take up A LOT of space if you want it to be accurate but at that point you could just do what devs should have done decades ago (and actually did back in the 90s) and let people choose which parts of the game they want to download/install.

Why would I ever want to wait 4 hours for the game to download high res textures if my graphics card isn't good enough to use it? Why would I ever want to download the german audio dub if I don't speak german? Why the FUCK would I ever want to download the pre-baked lighting if the game can generate it in half the time it would take to download anyway?

Ray tracing in Witcher 3 is fucked half of the time because they didn't build the game with it in mind and were lazy with adding it in afterward. That's why most indoor areas are way too dark.
