Was this just good for its time or does it still hold up and worth playing?
>>
I unironically think it's fun, including the combat.
With that said, Wis and Int is a must.
>>
I played it for the first time a few months ago.

Definitely worth it. One of the best games I've ever read.

Does this have controller support?

Disco Elysium proved the combat was not actually needed.
>>
Might as well just read a fucking book.

It was always trash, because the GAMEplay - the most important part of a videoGAME - is putrid dogshit.
If you want "teh storey" then read a visual novel that isn't bogged down by horrendous gameplay, or better yet read a fucking book.

Of course bro, you can even use it as an intro to the IE games (Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale). The classes are a lot more limited, so it's mostly melee combat and learning how to kite, basic game knowledge.
Strength is a good base, dex and int are stats for thief or mage respectively, cha and wis are roleplaying stats (although all stats get some roleplaying). You want to focus on 3 stats at most, for the best utility with your points.
Otherwise don't spoil yourself, don't use a wiki cause you will read things you didn't want to know.

It attempted to prove that by having violent encounters take place through dialogue, and it failed due to incompetence and bad budgeting. The showdown with the mercenaries is practically a cutscene, there's no C&C there, and that's the most complex and narratively important instance of this attempt at combat.
Torment has dozens of enemy types, Torment has you exploring exotic fantasy locations not knowing what kind of monster you'll have to fight, it has sections near the end where you're running for your life from monsters you can go back and kill on a replay with more knowledge, and have a completely different kind of satisfaction that Disco has nothing like that.
In Disco you can talk to your tie like a faggot then set it on fire and throw it at the good guys, then shoot at them and flip a coin again heads or tails, (x) number faggpt podcasters died instead of (y) number, now Kim is with you on the island for the Drifter convo that is just as railroaded as all the other important story encounters.

In Torment you can do a couple playthroughs, one where you get the fire elemental, one where you get the golem/knight, two different experiences in combat and optional worldbuilding. In Disco you can flip a coin to fire a bullet at about 4 points in the game, while your character believes they're a racist, or while they believe they're a superstar. You are a legit faggot.

Not really. It's serviceable and fun. I don't recommend doing the boring optional hardcore dungeon but it works perfectly well for the normal game.

Honestly plays more like a visual novel or adventure game than an RPG.
Not saying that's necessarily bad, but it's important to keep that in mind before playing
