A quest like "search for clues about Dad" will give you a variety of options on how to do it and not tell you exactly what any of them are, but the world is designed to make areas of interest stand out on their own. Most importantly, the DT system of NV was a massive mistake. It makes either all enemies or your character into tanks and quite rare to get a sweetspot for a fun challenge like you'd get in F3. Tried 3 when it came out, but at the time I was into weeb shit almost exclusively, so I played for a couple hours and never played again. Played 4 when it came out, really liked it, then played NV and I loved it. Now I even hop into 76 with my cousin, and it's fun.
