I can't play games for more than 40 minutes at a time now that I'm in my 30's. Is this normal?
>>
sounds like depression
>>
Sounds like a you problem. Step off the meds and become a pred
>>
same, what are we waiting for?
>>
>>731128154
I have depression, and I just don't play anything. So, the 40 minutes might be depression too. It's weird because I don't think anyone on this website is even smart enough for depression. Maybe they're just tired from work.
>>
I can play Dota 2 for hours. Any other game? Doubt.
>>
>>731128054
I want her to jerk me off with those dirty feet.
>>
>>731128251
>I can play Dota 2 for hours. Any other game? Doubt.

That's probably ADHD. I played Dota all my life and I can still play other games. What's your play time?
>>
>>731128297
Holy Christ....
Do you stream your play? After that many hours...you should stream, and post a continuous picture of that statistic on your stream.
>>
>>731128760
That's average for a dota player. Pros and streamers can easily have 2-5x as much
>>
>>731128054
Normalfag 'le too tired' wagie syndrome, I'm afraid it's permanent
>>
>>731128054
It's just a phase; you'll be back to normal before you turn 40.
>>
>>731128054
It is very normal. You shouldnt be sitting around for hours like a retard anyways. I play games in several short sessions now and never ever burn out like I did when I was younger.
>>
>>731128297
Not the guy you quoted, but I have ADHD too and got 5k-ish hours in Dota 2 before I quit years ago. Any other games you're addicted to that I could try out? I hate playing games for 20 hours then moving on.
>>
>>731129023
>Any other games you're addicted to that I could try out?

No, and I'm currently playing nothing. If you want to know what I played in the past, then another game I spent countless hours on was World of Warcraft. The last xpac (War Within) was awful, though.
>>
>>731129084
>World of Warcraft
I was the same with FFXI. Between retail 04-09 and private servers 2015-2024, I too have more hours than I could count.
>>
>>731129084
Here's something I played and finished. The key to being a gamer is trying stuff. Like, just today I downloaded and installed a game.
>>
My problem was usually thinking "but what about OTHER GAME" whenever I was playing anything, so I fixed that by only allowing myself to have 2 playthroughs running at the same time
Stops me from dropping a game after 90 minutes to try out another one
>>
>>731129237
This screenshot is from the ending, so I actually finished it.

Depression doesn't require IQ, anon. It's a shitty outlook on life dependable for enough time that you brain actually rewires to see just the gray and it's very hard to get out of it.

you're not alone, i'm 39 and i can't do more than a half hour. and most of the time i don't play anything
>>
>>731128054
Yes it's normal, tastes changes with age, you just haven't found vidya that genuinely interests you. When I was 14 I would listen to death and black metal and think it was the shit. Now I'm 39 and I fucking fall asleep if I have to listen to that, I just find it mindnumbingly boring. Same goes for vidya and I'm not depressed and perfectly healthy. At some point one can only tolerate so much 3rd person moviegames, indie metroidvanias, rollslops, etc etc. 99% of games just aren't exciting to you anymore and it's perfectly normal to change with age.

I'm 40 and I played Nightreign for 10 hours yesterday. You just need to be in the 'zone' for it to work. I drink, so that helps chill me out and lets me play most things for long periods.

has anyone else played this? which weapons are worth investing points in? I tried the spear for a while because it was great in Nioh but the combos are really awkward in this one. There's longsword, one-handed sword, dual sword, axe, spear. I'm using the longsword because you can get a blue charge out of the quick first two hits and then use that to quick-charge a heavy attack

Yeah I think it's normal at some point we become more and more self aware and start asking questions, I'm browsing this board when I have no intention of playing videogames and I don't even know why I'm here. I've mostly quit videogames I went on a LoL binge recently but I quit again.
>>
Because you play dogshit singleplayer games
Try playing online. Get into hard stuff like CS, R6, Dota, Valorant, or anything that you like. Get 2-3 people to play with. It's endless fun.
I play with my friends (who I met online years ago) and now we are very close even met couple of times even though we all live in different coutnries. We could start playing CS:GO at 9pm and finish at 2am. Time just went flying.
I can't play singleplayer games since forever now. It's just not stimulating, interesting or fun for me. If I want to enjoy story I just watch films instead.
>>
>>731134028
You definitely need a bro to play with, heightens any game. I'm lucky me and my brother still play together all the time since childhood. I did have an online group from the old WOW days but it's hard to get together. We eventually did a 4 player group of Divinity OS2 from start to finish, took us months by doing one night a week but it was crazy fun.
>>
>>731134343
>one night a week
Damn that's rough. I literally play everyday.
And no, me being unemployed doesn't matter. I was doing same during uni days, or working days too. Having no kid helps.

When I was younger sure, I could get lost in a narrative or a grind for days.

Wife needs attention, want to make time to listen to a new album or watch a movie or something. Want to practice guitar. Have a conversation with my parents before they pass away.
I kind of just shitpost on /v/, make fun of some gacha retards, 30 minutes and I get up.
Right now the sun is about to come up, gotta check greenhouses for excessive frost before the timer opens them up.

I find it hard to play singleplayer games that dont have top of the line quality gameplay, nioh 2 I enjoyed throughly.
Competitive 1v1 games like aoe2 and sf6 stimulate me and make me forget about my depression when the adrenaline is pumping

Toribash
Lethal League
worse is that they're not really dead but they have like 10 european players with 200 ping

Im the same way.
Im burnt out on roguelikes, because all runs feels 95% the same until you encounter 1 or 2 bits of variable information your not quite familiar with, which causes you to wipe a run.
They just can't compete with the variance of online multiplayer games
Every match of dota and aoe2 feels unique

i kinda get you, i guess. im 27 (soon 28) and decided to open a small business on top of my normal day job. can hardly find the time to do anything, weekends included. thought about playing pathologic 3 yesterday for the entire day and could only do it like 10PM, played an hour or so and had to go to bed because day job today. keep in mind im single, have no wife, no kids, nothing

you know, i kinda realized something. when normies tell you 'grown men dont/cant play games' or any of that patronizing stuff, i thought they said it as a way to simply be mean, to ridicule you. and that's not it at all - it's envy. because some married dude is FUCKED time wise and he knows it, and unlike my business which i can just quit, he cant easily do that. so normies at 30 or so are trapped, they are fucked, its wife and kids on one end and job on the other, he has NO TIME to go to the gym or pursue a hobby or a passion, and he realizes that albeit too late

in the end, i realize the meme of the comfy pepe eating tendies while the wagie slaves away is pure truth. adult normies may have everything, but they dont have freedom at all. and they deeply resent it

how is everyone so busy? I try to do the following and it really clears up my time:
>White board on my fridge with ongoing to do list for work
>daily task list, written the night before. I track completions in a notebook
>I track when I wake up in that notebook to try to reinforce a good schedule
>weekly planner to try to keep track of longer term goals

I really need to get into journaling and long term goals, but at this point I do maybe an hour a day of work for my job while my coworkers are all still mega behind. Once you get on top of things it becomes so much easier..

My free time is mostly spent reading, gaming, and working out.

Sheeeit I got 3,000+ on dota and I’m entirely done from moba games forever. Not sure how you pushed that far. I use to farm for 70 minutes every game as Medusa and solo the enemy team, I had the highest rank back then (can’t remember what it’s called desu)
>>
>>731137320
lol what do you need to get done really? I feel bad for people with nothing going on and they actively try to make their life harder for some reason. I work out of state 70% of the year and that last 30% i spend at my house maxing out on literally nothing.
>>
I have the same issue. I plan to choose better my games and only start gaming when I can put of headphones and forget the world. Something I noticed is that I start something and my wife or someone else asks for my attention then when I come back to the game I lost all interest.
>>
>>731137320
>I do maybe an hour a day of work for my job

Wife and a job will do it. Kids will clear up your time. Go the the gym and you won't have time for anything else.
>>
>>731137998
Time pressure is a trap, if you constantly check the time, constantly speed in your car, constantly making sure things are organized around a dedicated time schedule ( i can only play this game for 45 minutes before i have to do this next thing) you’re living like a slave. You are mixing up responsibilities and being a servant

Maybe your own particular experience is not exactly the lens everyone should assess their life
And you won't get a definitive answer to that here. Look for professional counseling, even if it's not right I'm sure it will be better
>>
>>731129356
>Depression doesn't require IQ, anon.
Any outlook on life at all requires introspection, which has an IQ requirement. It also seems like it's far more common in first world countries, which means if it's not directly IQ-dependent then it at least requires a soul.
>>
>>731138641
I'm not very fond of IQ due to confounding factors (nourishment, education, socioeconomic status), but I certainly believe that high IQ and believing in soul are inversely correlated.

None of these things remarkably affect IQ unless you're literally starving. Will, extroversion, social skill and problem solving are all neurologically affected and you can describe these things as 'soul'. I think you just have depression because you're gay

>Once you get on top of things it becomes so much easier
My problem is management isn't on top of things which makes everyone's life harder. 90% of my time at work is spent trying to figure out what the fuck to do and how the fuck to do it because there's no real direction or plan on how to get it done. Everything is done so assbackwards because "this is how we've always done it and it works. So why change it!"

I can't tell you how many times I've heard managers over the years describe their job as corralling cats when all you gotta do is open a can of tuna - and they'll come running and will stay put. But it's too much effort to open the can I guess.

>>731138107
>organized around a dedicated time schedule ( i can only play this game for 45 minutes before i have to do this next thing)
I'm actually trying to break away from this mentality because it's fucking miserable. My 9-5 is mostly full of meetings so I literally live by the minute 5 days a week. And trickles into my free time making it difficult to enjoy anything.

And then when I do have time, there's the pressure to "maximize it". I've found it's easy for me to fall into the trap of saying I need to play as much vidya as possible on a day off and end up just cycling through my backlog. Because I should finish X but I want to play Y but I've been meaning to play Z for so long. And this is why it's hard (for me at least) to enjoy vidya in my mid-30s.
>>
>>731139047
"Soul" is not always used in the strictly spiritual sense. It's an easy shorthand for qualities like empathy, creativity, appreciation of beauty, etc. All the things that third worlders lack, in other words.
>>
>>731138261
you like holes that bleed and shit but feet are too much? okay buddy
>>
>>731139612
How do you bring up the link between neurology and personality, yet then turn right around and dismiss having depression as "being a fag"? You are on like 15 layers of just world fallacy cope right now
>>
>>731142346
If you were to agree that intellectual competency assists in problem solving, then you were to say that depression is linked with high IQ (true to an extent), you would have to admit that you have the capability to solve problems but instead are just acting like a fag. If you were then to bring up IQ deconstruction nonsense like education, wealth and nutrition and imply that those things are associated with depression, then you may also be a fat, broke and poor fag.

I'm just callin it like I see it!

I have this problem too. I think you have to shock the system and start chunking your interest. Just turn on whatever naturally comes to mind and commit to it for ~20 minutes. It feels stupid at first, but once you remove the completion track in your brain you will start naturally engaging with more focus and end up sticking with something in the long run

if you just can't find the time because you have so much other stuff going on, then that probably wouldn't be common but it would't be bad.
