For me it was a career path yeah, ever since I started playing WoW PvP, that and being an absolute autist with nothing going on in my completely unstructured life. First time it crossed my mind was when I first saw that there were tournaments with real money prizes on the old wow website. Then I moved to LoL and tried to do the same, of course they had the whole ecosystem built with streamers and e-sport tournaments, the carrot dangling in my face. I tried really hard but it was like self mortification, I couldn't understand how people played the game for 12-16h without losing their mind. All I reaped was frustration and losing my mind at times. Then it was apex and lastly guilty gear. Didn't succeed at none of these games. The people that succeed seem to have a combination of enjoyment passion and talent, perhaps I had none of that and I was just doing it because I had nothing else to do, I don't know. I ironically played better and enjoyed the game more when I also had a job than when I had nothing else to do but to play. Or when I played for the sake of playing. But one thing I do know and that it can't be healthy to play for such long times, maybe some people have that capacity of remaining sane just like some people that are seemingly capable of doing drugs and not degenerate as quickly as others, but it's never ever healthy just because some people can endure the poison better than others. I still remember thinking to myself how? How do they play so much? Because I did the same and let me tell you it didn't go well in the long run, not at all.
