Majora's Mask is style over substance
OoT is just a better overall gameplay experience
I really like the art and sound direction of MM, but OoT is more fun and enjoyable
>>
The first 40 minutes of Majora's Mask are basically the whole of what I remember about it. I love how casually the Moon is introduced, because you may just look up yourself or you will notice the first NPC that talks about it at any moment, and go
>Huh. Can I see the moon-- Oh shit!
Yes, especially the 3DS boxart has it on it, but I distinctly remember when this was just referred to as "Zelda 2" by people who had an N64, you really didn't know anything about the game beyond that cover, and you'd start playing it, and you'd exit the tutorial and be like "fuck that's scary." and then realize it's actually moving.

That's what the Majora's Mask experience is for, and then all the side-quests that co-exist with the doomsday plot. The main plot is more of a short-story than OoT's and honestly a lot weaker. (It's just about friendship and bullying, and much less existential)

OoT is a more full-rounded experience with a really satisfying and climactic finale. I also prefer all of the dungeons in OoT to the ones in Majora's Mask. I also prefer Hyrule Field to Termina Field, but I do enjoy the 4 locations in MM.

>Majora's Mask, a story with the themes of loss, doom, death, unfulfilled dreams, hopelessness and acceptance of trauma is "less existential" than save-the-princess-from-pigman OoT.

Majora's Mask didn't reuse the world or villain of OoT, didn't take 6 years to make, and didn't come with a last-minute price hike.

OoT is about the relationship between childhood and adulthood, and about leaving behind the purity of innocence. It's a deeper storyline on the whole than Majora's Mask's main plot, mainly due to the execution. The writing is great in both but Majora's Mask is a short-story format and OoT is a 3-act monomyth, with more plot development.

All of this was a factor in Tears being divisive, but I'd argue the amount of time it took is the main issue. If the game had come out a couple years earlier with no other changes from what we got, it would feel a lot more reasonable why the game reused so much from its predecessor.

Tik totk fans still can't accept their game was absolute trash and forgettable???? No one even posts about it anymore
>>
>>731140812
TotK came out after the zoomies were done being fascinated by BotW and moved on to the next thing, and long term the nostalgia for BotW will be minimal.

Anon, Ocarina of Time is the one about loss, doom, death, unfulfilled dreams, hopelessness and acceptance of trauma. Majora's Mask is just a pinocchio possessed by a mask is going to crash a moon in three days, but Link shows up on the clocktower and stops him in time.

Oot would be better if they removed hyrule field, anyway.

okay don't give anymore (You)s to that faggot, he's being a bad faith retard on purpose
>>731140812
TotK being promoted from DLC/expansion pack to full game is likely what ruined it.
>>
>>731141108
Whole reason hyrule field was like that was because miyamoto forced the devs to add horse riding

There was still a lot of goodwill going into its release, but a ton of it was clearly gone after the first month or two post-release. The story and writing are probably the biggest issue that hurt TotK's community longevity - Zelda stories already weren't exactly high art, but TotK has the worst fucking story and lore of the entire series, and it's not even close. Which tracks when they decided to outsource it to a fucking morning cartoon studio.

It needed all that time to be what it is. These so called "fans" who are critical like this are completely unreasonable and detached from reality.
>>
>>731142183
>it needed all that time to be BotW with some shit shuffled around, a handful of copypasted sky islands, and taking BotW's map but inverting its topography and putting nothing in it

>>731132603
Agree. I'd rather play OoT any day. Same with BoTW and ToTK. ToTK is all weird and stylish I'd rather just play BoTW.

Majora's Mask is about human connections, and finding and fighting for hope in seemingly inevitable despair and ruin. Ocarina of Time is just an angry A-rab who turns into an angry pig that Link needs to kill.

See, I can do it too.
