I don’t mind stuff like Until Dawn because it’s honest about what it is. It’s in the same boat as like a VN but obviously on a whole different level. Experiencing an actual interactive movie is pretty entertaining. Nothing wrong with that if that’s what you’re advertising from the get go.It’s much more honest than shit like Order 1886 that just wants to be a movie but begrudgingly tacks on a generic third person shooter that nobody cared about. My one complaint is that it makes no sense for the wendigos to be around throughout the entire game but only start attacking when the plot says it’s time. It would make much more sense if they were trapped inside the mines/sanatorium, but were accidentally let out due to the whole prank thing when people started crawling around all over the place, breaking down walls and shit.Sam best girl btw.

>>731136394This game was so shit and so fun at the same time. The worst part about it were the staffing issues. It didn't provide you with nearly enough extras to fill all the rolls or nearly enough different actors to stop critics from complaining that the same actor was in every film.

Zoomers blew up the attention economy with their tiktok complications and xitter doomscroll. Storygames increasingly are only made for millennial audiences (Death Stranding 2, Expedition 33, et al) because they're the only ones with attention spans left to market to.
>>731134435Until Dawn and The Quarry were actually really good. I haven't looked much but I suspect there isn't anything else worth playing from this wokeslop genre. Life is Strange and everything else that company made were awful in my opinion.
>>731137091literally never seen a single thread on /v/ about The Dark Pictures Anthology.
>movie gamesNo such thing exists."Videogames" aren't "games".Visual component = painting, photo, video (sequence of pictures), otherSound component = recording, music, otherNarrated component = book, otherVisual component + audio component + narrated component = movieVisual component + audio component + narrated component + real-time interaction = videogameWhen the "videogame" term started spreading (the 70s) you could not have the same quality as movies when it came to the visual and sound components because of technological limitations.3D wasn't even a thing. You could only do basic stuff and one of the most obvious very basic things you could do with it was... games. Now the technology advanced and you can have rendered humans moving in a rich 3D environment performing all kinds of stuff, even stuff that isn't "fun" nor "playful" which means that they are not "games", however the name stayed the same. Both Silksong and Death Stranding are "videogames".It's just that the "videogame" term is wrong because it's a legacy term.
>>731136475Dispatch is fun but let's not forget almost none of the choices matter in a way that changes the story. This is literally a TV show, even the release was episodic timed (and it's very shit).

>>731134435You say that as if it's a bad thing. Movie games like Until Dawn, Telltale games (and DIspatch) or whatever uninspired American drek that infests the gaming industry would be better off as TV shows or movies. Video games are meant to be primarily played not watched. Faggot millenial Hollywood rejects should just make an indie film or some shit to get their ideas off the ground rather than making another piece of digital cultural film-adjacent wankery LARPing as a video gmae.

>>731137979kek, true
>>731137909 based taxonomy autist honestly the real issue is that "videogame" as a term became meaningless once devs stopped designing around interactivity and started treating players like passive audience members. at this point we need a new term entirely for stuff like Until Dawn, Death Stranding, Detroit, etc. "interactives"? "cinemavents"? hell, even "gamebooks.exe" feels more accurate.

>>731136648>Even the devs struggle to match the quality that Until Dawn has, imo it's still their best game.Because they had Sony backing them up.The overall quality of The Dark Pictures Anthology is pretty low. Gameplay, graphics, length, bugs, etc., everything is worse. The Quarry is the closest they've been to match the quality of Until Dawn because they had 2K's money.

Currently playing House of Ashes. It's okay, I guess. Not great, but miles better than the previous two games. So far for me it's>Until Dawn > House of Ashes (so far) >>>>>>>>> Man of Medan >>>>>>Little HopeAre the Devil in Me and The Quarry worth playing? My main issue with MoM and LH was that the plot is basically it was all a dream/hallucination so there's literally no reason to replay it, and once you understand that midway through the game it stops being tense or good. HoA at least has real monsters, just like UD. So how are the other two?
>>731139995Quarry is good, Devil in Me is their worst game by far.
>>731140037Phew okay, will skip that one then. Is Devil in Me another one of those all a dream game?
>>731139995the quarry is worth a play but i'd avoid devil in me unless you can get it for cheap. i didn't think it was as bad as little hope but it still wasn't great.
>>731140103no, it focuses on a lot of H. H. Holmes stuff but does a poor job of it.
>>731140103>Is Devil in Me another one of those all a dream game? Not really, but i dislike the game because the characters are bad and the monster is kinda stupid who can be anywhere and everywhere and the excuse they use to justify it doesn't work.
>remake game that doesn't need remade>completely destroy the aesthetic and actively make the graphics look worse by dumping it in Unreal
>>731140371many such cases
>>731134435I'm going to guess it's something lame like the actresses found out they're basically signing up to have porn made of them and got triggered.
>>731138921They did design those around interactivity, it's just not the type of interactivity that you expect or seek.In Until Dawn and Detroit interactivity is the element that lets you shape the story through choice. In Death Stranding interactivity is what creates immersion (and it also has some action in it).So, you see, all of those three are just wrong examples because interactivity has a role in all of the three.A correct example would be something like To the Moon: interactivity plays no role. It creates no immersion, it gives you no "fun" like a Mario game would do, it doesn't shape the story. What we need, by the way, is not a term to separate stuff like Until Dawn from Mario. What we need is to replace "videogame" with a new umbrella term that contains both while not having "game" in the name (and I don't see that happening).
>>731139995>midway through the gameIn man of medan is obvious from the very beginning.
>>731140715Yes I know, I remember seeing the green gas and going "oh okay it's hallucinations". But at the beginning of the game you're still thinking maybe the game will surprise you. By the midway point it's obvious you were right and the entire plot falls apart. I remember feeling so deflated when you exit the boat outside and the monsters suddenly stop. The same thing is happening in House of Ashes though. I guessed right from the moment I saw sunlight that it would be their weakness, and when one burned in sunlight to get Salim I thought "what next, a stake through their heart?"lol. lmao.
>>731134484/thread
>>731140918Until Dawn worked because there was this whole plot about the guy trying to scare his friends and everything being fake, and then when you think you understood what's going on there's the reveal that there are actual monsters. The other games all fail to get you involved in the mystery, it's always so obvious what it's going to be after just an hour or two.

Is Until Dawn actually worth a go through? What level of 'choices matter' is it on?
>>731144304The last 40% or so has your choices matter and its possible to have everyone survive or have nobody survive. Yes it is worth a go but play the original not the remake. They fucked the OST up hard
>>731134550This is a good reason, there's more to it but this post is clean. Game companies have become so big and impersonal from their products they "need" to behave like a Vice Industry to maintain growing profits. A Vice industry, for those unaware, are built around exploiting the addictive qualities of their users, and in many cases get 80% of their profits from just 20% of their consumers.Look at the average breakdown of a game companies quarterly profits and you'll see their biggest money-maker are, as I said before, exploitative slop. Assassin's Creed: Shadows does not make money, the $5.00 skin does.
>>731144923Apologies for the shoddy grammar, by the way. I know,>Game company'sand more are in there, but I'm really dying from the spicy pasta I made (ooh ow too much spice) and it's hitting my ability to think clearly.
>>731134550Doesn't seem to be working out so well for Sony, they've flushed tens of billions of dollars down the drain at this point chasing a live service hit and gotten nothing out of it. Factor in the opportunity costs of basically having nothing to release first party wise as a result and there is no chance they actually make their money back if they finally go get a mega hit live service game.

It would make much more sense if they were trapped inside the mines/sanatorium, but were accidentally let out due to the whole prank thing when people started crawling around all over the place, breaking down walls and shit. What I always thought they should've done was REALLY make your choices matter (these sorts of games always say "Be careful what you choose, you'll change the outcome, and there are countless!" and then there are only like two endings), and depending on which ones you make, the threat of the game could be the wendigos, or it could be a serial killer (maybe flamethrower guy, maybe someone a bit more Jason-like), maybe it could actually be the spirits of Hannah and Beth back for revenge, maybe it could be an avalanche that traps everyone in the cabin, etc. And then, if you really want a challenge, there's a very specific series of choices you can make to activate ALL the threats all at once. That'd give the game some real replay value. Also, where can one find that image of Sam but without the bikini top?

>>731154171Its amazing how much of a flip many games and series take in 2015+ with tone and ideas. See this in movies and other entertainment too. UD is about slasher flick with young adults doing this and that and it knows its a movie game and works with that. So much shit is just boring these days, whether they're politically preachy or not.
>>731154662>UD is about slasher flick with young adults doing this and that and it knows its a movie game and works with thatThis is what I loved about it, it embraced itself for being a goofy 1990's horror trope. >>731134550Lol no. There's a limited amount of players and they have a limited amount of time. Gaas games die when they don't catch on. Nobody wants to move to a new generic piece of shit avec they have already spent hundreds of hours in their favorite slop.
>>731154171>but if they wanted to it would have been done already.Weren't the models ripped already tho, like that's how until dawn porn started resurfacing after 2020's, like the one in op?
