>Sega's direct answer to Super Mario 64
Do you like Sonic Adventure?
>>
>>731135924
Yes, this is the best Sonic game. The second adventure game isn't quite as good. The key is a solid hubworld. Why wont Sega figure it out?
>>
I liked some of the Sonic levels and the chao gardens

2 was better. I still regulary check up on my Chao gardens.
>>
>>731135924
Yes I like it. Very much.
>>731136283
I do like the hubworld and connectedness of the world, including the stages themselves. I like how the stages themselves make sense in the world, like how the Highway and Twinkle Park fits into Station Square.
>>
>>731138134
i recently found out that it's Parappa's voice actor doing the rap for that and it blew my mind.
>>
>>
>>731135924
It's decent. It feels like they were dead focused on dabbing on Mario 64 by including an over-abundance of playstyles rather than making a consistently good game. Station Square is comfy and the style is definitely there. Overall, about 1/2 of both Adventure games are genuinely good. It's the apparent price of experimentation/ambition.

sonic 1 sux wheres sonic cd
>>
All's well that ends well.
>>
>>731135924
It's a solid game, but it has too much jank to be considered the best Sonic game in my opinion
And no, I'm not taliking about camera or that DX-specific loop glitch, it just feels really unpolished compared to contemporary platformers in general
>>
Amy had the best gameplay with decent levels

TAILS~!!!

haven't played it yet
>>
>>731135924
Its actually better than mario 64 but the internet isnt ready to admit that yet
>>
>>731135924
It's objectively shit, people only like it because of nostalgia. At best you could say that it's charming and as a tech demo for the DC and time capsule for dawn of the millenium gaming it's pretty neat

Btw OoT and SA released only 1 month apart, at least in Japan

I do, I also like 2 for its chao garden.
>>
>>731135924
This game was jank af, that very first loop in Emerald Coast, there's a 50% chance that you will fall through the ground and die. I've no idea how this got past QA.

Mario 64 is a masterpiece in comparison, though it also has its fair share of tech problems. Some autist decompiled the game and then recompiled it with a modern compiler (as well as some by hand optimizations) and it actually runs at 60 fps (double the framerate) on real hardware. Funny that.

It was a great game. Some really good levels with awesome music. Loved playing Sky Deck and Final Egg over and over.
>>
Sonic Adventure 2 is so much better in terms of presentation that it makes this one hard for me to get into. I need to get the steam version and fuck around with it.
Conceptually I like the idea of bigger sandboxy levels but it also works against the player trying to build up speed when you don't know where the hell you're going.
>>
>>731135924
Yeah, truly got me into being a Sonic fan, when the only games I played before it were Sonic 3, Blast and R on PC.
>>
>>731138789
>I like how the stages themselves make sense in the world
Why is there a snowy mountain in the middle of a jungle?
>>
>>731145686
It's not, you go through a tunnel that leads to Ice Cap.
>>
>>731135924
It was pretty fun, yes.
>>
even though sonics gameplay is the only good stuff, having the story play out through 6 characters made it really epic
>>
>>731138227
Nah. Adventure 2 is a huge step down in almost every aspect. I guess you could argue the story is better but its convoluted as all fuck

Ever heard of Mt Kilamanjaro?
>>
i've said it before, i'll say it again, i'll say it forever.
if someone says 2 is better, it's because that was the first Sonic game they ever played and they played it on their Gamecube.
no one who actually had a Dreamcast and played 1 first thinks that 2 is better.

>The key is a solid hubworld. Why wont Sega figure it out?
I feel like they are sort of relearning that but they still haven't quite hit the mark yet. Frontiers and Shadow Generations had hubworlds too but their entirely different dimensions instead of being set in Sonic's world. Shadow Generations is probably considering how well the hub world did to show how sealed away Mephiles was.
>>
>>731135924
The direct answer was x-treme tho
But yeah adventure 1 is kino
>>
>>731135924
I think barring the 90s era early 3D jank that had to be figured out, remembering the Dreamcast controller is missing a few options from being a modern controller, and fixing the the DX port with DC conversion mod, I think some of the philosophy behind this game is a little retarded. Like why do both X and B have to do the exact same thing and have Y be fucking useless? Have X to spindash, Y to light dash, and B to roll, but nooo Yuji Naka had to be autistic! Plus, not to beat the horse's meat puddle, half the game is not a Sonic game.
>>
>>731139237
Honestly this is spot on. Almost objectively correct.
>>
>>731148339
>half the game is not a Sonic game
Neither is Sonic Adventure 2
>>
I like it, but seriously what is it with autists and thinking that literally every 3d platformer back then was derivative or directly drawn from Mario 64?
You guys know most of the design docs for Sonic can be applied directly to 3D games?
Hell Sonic Xtreme and Jam's Sonic World were both mostly "finished" before Mario 64 was even on the table.
>>
>>731139237
holy based
>>
>>731135924
SEGA's answer to Super Mario 64 was Sonic 3D Blast actually.
>>
>>731135924
My favorite Sonic game
>>
I only ever played DX, what makes the original SA1 better than that version?
>>
>>731148339
>half the game is not a Sonic game
If the games stayed as 2d and played as OGs, then you might as well say good bye to Sonic as a franchise lol
>>
>See a video of SA1 of Speed Highway
>Half of the music is the speed shoes music.
Maybe we treated the boost too harshly.
>>
>>731149361
Less buggy, better visuals. The PC version is even worse.
Here's a site that runs through everything https://dreamcastify.unreliable.network/
>>
>>731148812
if SA2 and CD were in the A slot, maybe.
>>
>>731148894
pretending that Mario 64 didn't have a HUGE impact and that all eyes weren't on it is unhinged.
that's like saying
>why do you guys think the dozens of FPSes released in 1994 were derivative or directly drawn from DOOM?
>why do you guys think the dozens of 3D-model on prerendered background action games with tank controls released in the late '90s were derivative or directly drawn from Resident Evil?
>>
UP AND DOWN AND ALL AROUND
>>
>>731150129
>pretending that Mario 64 didn't have a HUGE impact and that all eyes weren't on it is unhinged.
No what's unhinged is acting like Mario 64 is directly responsible for 3D platformers as a genre.
Including but not limited to formerly complaints about Sonic Adventure not even actually being 3D because the levels weren't specifically islands with a mountain in the middle up until retards like you were made fun of because it's functionally impossible to 100% SA2 if you just run on the stages like they're 2D.
>>
>>731150290
AAAAAAAH
https://youtu.be/vNVz6N-bNZs
>>
>>731150446
directly responsible? of course not. unescapably influential? yeah.
only a retard would look at the releases before and the releases after and think otherwise.
there's a reason you stopped seeing platformers like Jumping Flash AFTER Mario 64. Croc and Bubsy 3D came out shortly after the same year, and look how well they did with their older game philosophies.
>>
>>731135924
>direct answer to Super Mario 64
lol who said this?
>>
>>731143478
play japanese version, different shit
>>
>>731148820
Yeah I know. That's not very great either. Probably worse since you have to play those non-speed stages to get to the fun part.

>>731149394
I'm not sure what you're trying to say? I don't think anyone would miss Big, Gamma, and Amy's gameplay if they were removed from the game before the initial Dreamcast release. Sure I think Gamma's story is kino, but the actual gameplay is not something that I like or look back fondly like the other half of SA1.
>>
>>731150936
>I didn't say it was directly responsible! I said it was directly responsible in a semantically different way so you can't say I'm dumb!
Fuck off retard
>>
>>731138134
I'd rather flex my knuckles.
>>
>>731151692
>"huge impact" literally means "directly responsible!" please don't call me out i really need this win
get fucked, kiddo.
>>
>>731153360
In the way you're clearly using it, yes. That is exactly what you're saying.
