The fights changed enough each time to not be exactly the same and it was a good way to ramp up the challenge and test your skills as they develop. Nelo 1 and Nelo 3 are pretty different with a big change in difficulty.I think they did want to have an actual boss fight against Trish but weren't able to do it though, which is why she's just a side thing to the Nightmare fight.
