Prayer flicking has been in RS3 for ages its essential to most bosses and is less cumbersome to use since you can assign individual prayers to hotkey.

I think the thing that most rubs me the wrong way about RS3 is how I keep hearing reports of people getting near-maxed on all skills in like a month. It seems like there are so many varied and hyperefficient manners of training that none of them seem to have much weight to them and it's just foreplay for endgame. I think I like the idea of playing the game more than I do actually playing it. Click furnace.
Make bars.
Deposit bars.
Click forge(smaller/taller furnace)
Create the "unfinished item" of what you want to smith. You can create up to 28 in one inventory if you want to just go completely hands off for smithing training(deposit like a thousand rune bars and then make a thousand rune platebodies or dart tips or whatever)
Click anvil to start smithing, it does it automatically.
Bar 1(blue?) is the progress bar.
Blue 2(yellow) is the heat bar. Higher heat==faster progress(it's still slow as fuck and there's nothing you can do about it besides the falador artisan workshop on a members world last I played). You want to reheat something, just click on the forge again and then back to the anvil.

Mining, Archaeology, Divination and I forget what the last thing was have got the same two bar thing going on. One bar is your progress, the other is some form of stamina/'active incentive' thing that speeds up your activity in exchange for your attention.

Oh yeah I forgot bronze->rune(plus the other three or so they added for members) can get + upgrades. Say you have a rune scimmy and you want to make it a rune scimmy +1, you take that rune scimmy to the forge and for some additional rune bars you get to upgrade it. That scimmy+1 can get upgraded again for more rune bars to a +2 and I think every metal has an increasing maximum level of upgrades. It takes a while, I recall taking tens of minutes to actually smith a rune platebody +3 and apparently it takes hours for the masterwork stuff from scratch but hey "immersion" and mid game smithing was so hands off I used to do it just so I could have an excuse to read books at my PC.
